Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

This is our custom new home completed in 2011. It is beach life at its best! There are 2 bedrooms/2 baths, and an open kitchen/dining/living room. The house sleeps 6. The master bedroom has a connected bath. The second bedroom has a queen bed and double/twin bunk bed. There is wireless internet if you must be connected.

You are on the beach! The Dungeness lighthouse is right out front. Spectacular views of the Olympic Mountains are on the other side. It is a perfect spot for beach combing, bird watching or curling up with a good book.

We built this house because of our love of the water. Windsurfing and kayaking are two of our favorite activities. It is ideal for both. Bring your gear and have fun! The Dungeness valley is also great for cycling with the Olympic Discovery trail stretching from Sequim Bay to Port Angeles. What ever gear you bring, will be secure in the garage that the house sits on top of. There is a second garage door leading to the beach for easy gear access!

It's your vacation. Do as much or a little as you like. Inside, the house is a quiet, comfortable place to just 'be'. There is a wood stove that increases the cozy factor on cool winter days! Outside is what you make of it. The deck is a great place for bird watching during the day or star gazing at night.

Dungeness Spit is the longest sand spit in the US and a National Wildlife Refuge. It is about a 10 mile round trip hike from the base of the spit to the lighthouse and back. Hiking on a low tide is best. The trail head is less than a 10 minute drive from the house. If you're looking for more ambitious hiking adventures, Olympic National Park beckons. Within an hour you could be at Deer Park or Hurricane Ridge, on trails leading through some of the most spectacular scenery on Earth, really! Hurricane Ridge also has downhill and cross country skiing as well as snow shoeing in the winter.

About Guy Lawrence or Jeanne Neal

I am a 6th grade math and science teacher in Seattle. Being an avid wind surfer, paddler, birder and photographer, my dream was to build a home on the water. I met Jeanne (who loves all outdoor activities) in 2006 and together we built our dream home.

Currently we are busy raising a 17 year old daughter and working full time, but plan on eventually moving to Dungeness full time. We are Olympic Peninsula natives so moving back will be a homecoming of sorts for us.

We hope that everyone enjoys 'Beach Life' as much as we do!

Why Guy Lawrence or Jeanne Neal chose Sequim

I spent 5 years after college traveling the world working as a scuba diving instructor. I've always wanted a house on the beach. Diving has given way to windsurfing and kayaking. This place is perfect for both. The Olympic Peninsula is where our roots are. We love visiting and look forward to moving back someday.

What makes this house unique

We like to 'unplug' from the world and take time. We alternate between relaxing with a good book and getting outside paddling, sailing, birding, cycling or hiking the awesome Olympic Peninsula. Nash's Farm store is a must stop for organic veggies while we're there.

We love the house!

  • 5 of 5

It's perfect with only one issue, the beds are extremely uncomfortable. Upgrading the bed in the master would make a big difference. But, we love the house and will stay again hoping for new high quality mattress.

Wonderful Family Get Away

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful time at Beach Life. The setting is absolutely beautiful out the kitchen window you see mountains then turn to look out the living room sliding glass door to see the beach. Our kids had a great time walking up and down the beach, watching the cruise ships head out to sea and we even got to see some bald eagles. The house is perfectly situated close to all kinds of wonderful activities.

The house itself was beautifully maintained and well appointed.

We loved our time there and would definitely return again

Exceeded all our expectations!

  • 5 of 5

We rented Beach Life for our summer vacation and absolutely loved our stay. The house is better than what the photos show; spacious and well decorated, with gorgeous views of the Olympic mountains and the Dungeness lighthouse/straight of San Juan. On a clear night you can see the milky way from the back porch, which is pretty amazing. The property is close enough to great hiking trails within Olympic national park, which is why we chose it, but there are also fun things to do locally, like the Olympic game farm (the kids favorite), lavender farms, or the railroad bridge park. Sequim has a quaint little downtown area, but also several large chain stores for groceries and gear.

Guy was very easy to work with and provided several great suggestions for things to see during our trip. I wholeheartedly recommend this property if you're thinking about it.

Fantastic family getaway location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay at the Beach Life Dungeness House!

We arrived on Friday and were welcomed by a clean, well kept and well appointed home. Right away our daughters (both under 10 y/o) set to playing Candy Land and a few other board games the house comes stocked with while I unpacked our things and got settled.

Plenty of space for clothes for our family of four even when we packed for fluctuating weather. If you've never traveled here before be sure to pack layers as the climate can change between coastal winds, sun, and the shade during interior hikes!

The next item on our list was putting on our boots and going straight out to the water to walk on the beach, rest on the large drift wood tree trunks, and scour for seashells.

The evenings were filled with movies and reading books which we brought from home. *Note* It was a FANTASTIC idea by the home owner to put the small television and DVD player on a cart with wheels! We were able to watch family movies with the girls on bunk beds and in the evening my husband and I could move the TV into our room and watch a movie without disturbing the little ones.

The location of this home is beneficial. There is a brand new Home Depot, Starbucks, multiple grocery stores and restaurants nearby within simply driving distance. It was a short trip to Port Townsend to walk around town and explore a different beach for a day and in the opposite direction Lake Crescent, the Lodge, and the waterfalls are all within easy driving distance. Closer to the house (within 8 minutes) is the Olympic Game Farm. If you elect to go, be sure to go earlier in the day (before 12 pm).

A few considerations - if you have travelers who are slightly older or possible problems with stairs be aware there are two sets of steps to get up to the front door (one short set of 8 and another longer set). Something to consider for carrying up luggage, groceries, etc.

Also there is no bathtub in the home so in case you have little ones who aren't comfortable with a shower be prepared.

Our host was responsive, helpful, and knowledgeable. They know the area well and provided recommendations for nearby kayak rentals, grocery stores, etc.

We had a fantastic stay and made memories our family will not soon forget. I definitely recommend staying here!

Relaxing Beach Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We got to wake up to beautiful beach sunrises with the lighthouse and spit in the distance. It's a beautiful and calm setting and the house is set up very comfortably with a generous sized kitchen to cook family meals in. My husband especially loved the wood burning fireplace. Everything is up to date, well maintained and styled very nicely. We'll certainly be back again, and stay a week next time!

There is easy beach access for kayaking, windsurfing and kite boarding. It is easiest to launch close to high tide. Wind during summer months is predominantly a westerly-side shore that comes up in the afternoon. Mornings would be the best times for paddling if you like calmer conditions. There is boat launch on Cline Spit which about a 5 minute drive away, west.
