About Susan Rose
I've always enjoyed nature untouched, the smell of ocean spray and the sound of waves hitting the beach. For me it washes any stress away. We are surrounded by ocean rich with amazing seafood like COD that has substained our people for centuries. Explore some of the oldest communities in North America, graves dating back to the 1600's with stories written on stones. We offer authentic experiences like cod fishing to the pan, stories, music in Da Shed as well as guided tours of our area. Being a bird watcher I love seabirds and the waves they ride on. We live in a part of the world that is pristine. Streams that are crystal clear, coastlines that go on for miles constantly changing as you hike along. I call it paradise!!!!!!! Come Explore...
Susan Rose purchased this House in 2000
Why Susan Rose chose Division No. 1
Thirty years ago I drove up the Baccalieu Trail and fell in Love with the sights, sounds, smells and people. I discovered nature untouched and I vowed to return. So twenty years later I bought a house because this is where I want to retire. Nature is still untouched which is one of the reasons I fell in love with the place thirty years ago. The wide open space, the sounds and smells of the ocean washes worries away. I love walking along the coastline, just nature and ME..... Being here on a windy day is so exciting!!!! The ocean can be so wild, a little scary at times, so it demands respect. I think it sometimes speaks saying enjoy my beauty, my spray and all the life I bring. I call it....Paradise on Earth!!!!
What makes this House unique
The peace I feel at the nest comes from the Wide open skies with spectacular sun rises and wild ocean waves Catch the sun setting before you enjoy star gazing and the Milky Way. I love walking along the coastline, just nature and ME..... Being here on a windy day is so exciting!!!! The ocean can be so wild, a little scary at times, so it demands respect..... Sometimes I pack a lunch leave the nest and begin walking along the coast. There have been a few times I have been so lucky because you can never predict when nature wants to do a show....I have sat and watched my own personal nature video. Like the day I sat for two hours and watched two mother whales play with their babies. They were so close to the hill I was sitting on I felt some of the spray from their blows...Another day as I watched about 25-30 Gannets dive for an hour I was amazed. Have you ever seen a bird with a five foot wing span about 100 feet above your head circle then drop like a bullet into the ocean? The first time I saw this I felt for sure the bird would break a part. Not So..They pull their wings in close to their body just before they hit the ocean then pop up a few minutes later. You will never forget it if you are lucky enough to experience nature!!!! I call it....Paradise on Earth!!!!

Could be the most beautiful place we've ever stayed at...
Susan couldn't have been nicer and if you really want to "get away from it all" this would be the place. Sitting in an Adirondack chair with a glass of wine, looking out onto the broad expanse of the Atlantic Ocean, suddenly nothing seems to matter. Peaceful and beautiful, we hope to come back!!
Hey Tim and Teresa
Thank you so much for your kind words. I have thought about you both often and sent lots of positive energy your way.
It's funny how we meet people in life and feel we have known them forever and , as we say in the bay, "you both are like a breath of fresh air!"
Yes do come back so I can show you around more and we will have to celebrate with a Shed Experience!!
Wishing you lots Peace and Laughter with family and friends.
Until we meet again:)
We loved this comfortable cottage
This property is a treasure. When we arrived in the pouring rain we were welcomed with a loaf of fresh bread on the table and a fire in the wood stove in the shed. The house was very comfortable and the kitchen was equipped with everything we needed. Netflix was a plus. But the best part was being able to just sit and look at the ocean. Sue was helpful, friendly, and very generous. We hope we are able to go back there again.
Thank you JoAnne and Nick
It was a pleasure to meet you both and I truly enjoyed our conversations. I bet you're missing the cod fish all ready.
For me I love meeting wonderful people who make this world a better place, that's what life is all about!
Hope to see you again and if I pass through your town this fall I'll be sure to connect.
Take good care
Sunrise over an Iceberg
I woke up early to catch the sun rising on the oceans horizon since I never see that where I live and was astonished to see it rising over a large majestic iceberg! Last night I watched the full moon glistening on the bay. Magical experience being so close to the ocean's edge with seabirds soaring everywhere! Thanks for the great experience with nature.
Thank you it was a pleasure having there
Come again soon
the fall sunsets are amazing as well
The sky is so huge like a blanket wrapped
an amazingly beautiful experience!
The first time I stayed at Eagle's Nest, I was overwhelmed by the majesty of the sea! It was in the Fall, and getting there involved a scenic drive along the coastline, through quaint rural communities. When I arrived, it was a windy evening and I immediately went to the edge of the 'bluff' - overlooking the sea. The waves were crashing against the rocks below, and I could feel the salty wetness of the water on my face...and my whole being responded to it. My time there was filled with quiet moments looking out over the sea, enjoying cozy warmth around a fire place in the shed, and generally experiencing a weekend of a rural Newfoundland community.
I have returned regularly...with my husband, and with my grandchildren, and with friends. Each time I spend time there, I come away refreshed and always looking forward to next time. Mostly I enjoy the quiet peace of Eagle's Nest, but we have also explored the different communities in the area, enjoyed various restaurants, picked blueberries and chatted with the locals.
The house itself is wonderfully clean, and the beds are amazingly comfortable. Truly a home away from home!
I love connecting to nature and meeting people who enjoy it as much as I do.
This family are nature lovers, so exciting showing them my secret places of beauty, and the kids loved every minute.
In the shed I have a collection of painted rocks, bird houses and pictures children have left for me. The nest is a place where creativity happens:)
Thank you so much for letting me experience such a wonderful family. I look forward to seeing you all again.
We stayed here last year with our daughter and can't wait to return. Where else on earth can you sit in your t- shirt in July and watch the icebergs. This is rural Newfoundland at its finest. Eagles nest is well equipped with everything you could possibly need and then some. We especially enjoyed the cozy woodstove in the shed in the evenings . The view of the rugged coast line and crashing waves from the cottage is majestic! We followed a beautiful hiking trail along the coast right from the cottage and saw 5 icebergs! Absolutely stunning! We will be back !
Thank you for your kind words.
Yes I agree, there is something surreal about icebergs, especially when sun tanning at the same time. We look forward to seeing you all again this summer.....Today we saw our first humpback🙂
I've travelled the province extensively over the years, but have never vacationed anywhere as magnificent and welcoming as Eagle's Nest. I've stayed there twice; both in the summer and the winter. My stay in the summer was for three weeks, and later winter as a retirement gift to myself for a month. I still can't decide which season was more spectacular.
In the summer I enjoyed walking the trails with my dog, watching the tremendous icebergs and whales and swimming in the ocean at Northern Bay Sands. During the winter the view from the sunroom of the pounding waves against the shoreline was awesome.
There's something for everyone at Eagle's Nest. This time, I'm looking forward to going back in the fall.
So glad you enjoyed the nest experience and yes please come back and experience a different season.
Next time I will make sure to cook you fresh cod in the shed:)
As well as screech you in.....
