The cabin was very nice and well equipped with everything we needed except heat!! The front room (with the fireplace) stayed nice and warm as long as we kept the fire on. However, even with the fans going, the dining room and kitchen stayed MUCH cooler. Additionally, the bedrooms were freezing! We tried closing some of the vents in a few of the rooms to direct the heat to the other colder parts of the house and it just made things worse. We figured out that the bathtub located within the bathroom that is located in the larger bedroom was one of the reasons for the chill. It felt as if that bathroom wasn’t insulated at all. The vent on the side of the tub was pouring cold air into the house (we covered the vent and kept the bathroom door closed with a pillow by the bottom of the door). The last night we turned the fireplace off (as normal) and set the heater to 72 but when we woke up, the thermostat read 61!! There was no way it was even 61 in the house! It was freezing! I literally had to use my hairdryer to keep me warm enough to change clothes:( The cabin needs a few electric heaters there for cold nights so people don’t have to suffer. My husband and I both ended up with colds from our stay. All of the guests agreed that the stay was not near as pleasant as it should have been because we were all having to stay super bundled up and we weren’t comfortable during our stay. I was going to try to just tell the rental management team but nobody’s was available to take our feedback. I hate leaving a mediocre review for such a charming cabin but I think it’s really, really important they fix this issue before allowing others to stay at this location.
We are so sorry you had this experience, this cabin is normally very warm and toasty so there is clearly something wrong. We wish you would have called us or emailed and we would have had a service person there even if it was after hours. Our goal is always for our guests to have a great experience so next time, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Even if our office is closed we have the calls forwarded to an emergency number 24/7 and we check email at least hourly. We are so sad this happened but if we don't know there is problem, we can't fix it :(
We hope everyone is feeling better.
The cabin was beautiful and very nice , but the drive up and down the mountain it's not worth it
The cabin was very nice and beautiful but the lake was hard to see . A couple of minor complaint was the lights were not working on the back porch and the sheets in the master bedroom had not been washed . A Bigger complaint would be the drive up the mountain and back down the mountain , and that alone would stop us from going again .
So sorry you had any difficulties, I'm hoping the sheets just need to be replaced and were of poor quality and not that they were not washed but we will be following up on this for sure. We have had dozens and dozens of reservations at THE BEARS DEN and have never had anyone have difficulty with the roads going in and out. We are not actually in the mountains, but more of the foothills, especially on the east side of Lake Lure. We hate that you had found them difficult but hope that overall you enjoyed your stay.
A REAL log cabin with no detail overlooked.
Beautiful log cabin with tons of designer "bear" accents. It had more cool designer nick knacks than a model home. You don't have to bring anything, there is more stuff there to cook with than at my own home. The only thing that was annoying was the construction noise next door. You can see the lake from the front porch and drive down to the community lake access where you could probably keep a boat if you brought one.
Thank you for your kind review! We appreciate you and look forward to seeing you again :)
We spent a 3 night weekend mid October at The Bear's Den. Just a bit early for prime leaf looking. The town of Lake Lure had a craft show and the area was very busy.
The home is beautiful. With leaves on there is not a view of the lake. You can get to the lake either by car or walk a steep car path. (Not for the out of shape person) I would be nervous about the driveway road into the property if freezing rain is possible. The contract states that even if you are concerned about the road into the place you will not get your money back.
The grill was located in a screened back porch. Grill tools and an extra propane tank was provided.
If you intend to cook plan to bring sharp knives (only dull cheap ones provided), frying pan, (only 1 stainless pan provided), plates (only 6 chipped plates provided) and any storage containers you may need. The kitchen was very usable otherwise.
There are 2 bathrooms. One with a shower only and the other with a large whirlpool tub only. Therefore all of us used the one bathroom to shower.
We will not return to this property as the beds and pillows are simply too hard for us. If you like a hard bed you will love it.
The management company that hires the cleaning staff and rents out the home did a great job. They responded quickly and had a convenient after hours check in system. The home was very clean!
