In the heart of Rome, at a few steps fom St.Peter`s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel there is a charming Liberty style villa built in 1923 and recently restored. The villa ''The Pomegranate'', surrounded by a small garden, is a green oasis in the very busy center of Rome and provides a tranquil retreat to the tourist. From our two terraces, it is possible to enjoy the view of the ancient walls designed by Michelangelo and of the Vatican gardens. Our bed and breakfast offers cozy and comfortable bedrooms, equipped with private bathrooms, TV, WIFI and heating/air conditioning. Breakfast, made of natural and organic home made products, is served upon prior request (5€ per person) either in our elegant, luminous sitting room, decorated with original stucco-works, overlooking the garden, or outside in the terrace. In alternative we provide all the food necessary for a self-prepared breakfast.
Please mind that, in order to reach the apartments from the street, there is a staircase of about sixty steps.
City tax, requested by the Roman municipality, of 3,5€ per person per day will be paid in cash on arrival.

Gabrielle purchased this Villa in 2000
Why Gabrielle chose Quartiere XIV Trionfale
Along with my parents Robert and Micaela, I decided to create a B&B inside our beautiful villa from the 1920s. Our B&B meets different requirements from usual B&B: we give a great importance to a personal approach with our clients, because we want to do our best to make their vacation unforgettable. We also provide them with all the information needed in order to make them feel at home.
What makes this Villa unique
The location as well as the elegance and quality of our B&B. All the rooms have stucco-decorated ceilings and elegant Italian pieces of furniture. We provide our clients with precious linens and cotton towels. Our homemade breakfast, served in China and silver ware, consists of biological marmelades with butter and toast, freshly baked pies, yoghurt, juices and an unforgettable Italian coffee.
Check-out: 10:00 AM
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date. You must contact the owner directly to request cancellation.
Quiet, comfortable, lovely owners
The only drawbacks to this property are the steps to walk down to get to it (they do warn you in the listing, but I assumed the walk was up, not down) and that it is so far from everything except Vatican city. These minor drawbacks are easily overlooked when you measure it against the amazing hospitality. Gabrielle and her parents (Michaela & Robert) were absolutely lovely, accommodating and so helpful. Gabrielle gave us a ride down to St. Peter's Piazza, Michaela made reservations for dinner our first night, hosted us for breakfast one morning and made the arrangements for a car/taxi to the airport on the day of our departure. The only thing that would have made it more convenient would have been a small map of the area with their "favorites"- grocery, restaurants, gelato, etc. listed with contact information. We had the business cards and went to some of their recommended "favorites", but had to rely on Google maps to locate how to walk there.
Straingly enough our two American guests seemed extremely happy of our hospitality at large. So, we would have expected that they reviewed starting with the pluses rather then the minuses.
In addition, if you walk up steps then, undoubtedly, you have to walk them down...
As for reaching up restaurants, groceries, etc we always provide clear indications.
Finally from our place you can reach the Spanish Steps via subway in seven minutes...
Lovely old Roman home and the owner was wonderful
The location was good and the owner was wonderful- even picked us up at the airport for an extra fee. Property description said 2 BR/2 Bath so we booked it, but when we arrived we were shown 1 BR. I asked about the other one, and she said we are supposed to ask ahead of time if we want it. So- note that if you want the whole listing! The area was good for walking to Vatican but not many restaurants nearby except pizza. Our rooms were fine old rooms but totally cluttered with the owners items. It was difficult to get around. We would stay again because the price was reasonable and we would know what to expect next time.
Only one reason I might recommend staying here
Stairs - I see there is mention of the stairs in the ad now but I would not have stayed here had I seen that information when I was booking. Lots and lots of stairs! 2 bedroom, 2 bath equals 2 separate units - only one with kitchen facilities, which is to say a toaster oven, small refrigerator, and microwave. The dining room picture is NOT in either unit, nor or others that are shown in the ad. I'm guessing those are in the main house, of which we were not invited. "Breakfast served" did not happen as promised for persons staying short periods (we were there only 2 nights). In the kitchen unit there was a loaf of bread, a boxed cake of some sort, a carton of milk, butter, and 2 dishes of jams poured from a larger container (somewhere). The homeowner seemed like the idea of renting is not her idea as she was short with answers, long with rules, and not always accessible. The city tax as stated to be collected upon arrival was not asked of us, and also not remembered seeing when researching rentals. It came as a surprise to us day of departure - especially since it was our last day and we had been trying to unload euro's AND the person we had been corresponding with had asked the balance to be paid in full, in cash, upon arrival, and when asked what that amount would be early the morning of arrival so we would have it ready, caused me to think it was an after thought. The unit I stayed in smelled musty and the fabrics on the beds felt damp. I expect our travelling companions will submit a second review of their unit therefore I will not address it. Mosquitos were a big issue during our stay in September. The best thing I can say is that Vatican Center is directly across the street and although you must follow a tall retaining wall for some distance to the entrance the walk was downhill and pleasant. The metro is close and easy to use but once again, the only way to and from is via multiple stairs. For that reason older persons, or anyone with bad knees, should look elsewhere for accommodations.
First thing: I always tell my guests that they can talk to me about anything and if something doesn't work or doesn't make them happy I will make my best to find a solution! Therefore, "short with answers and long with rules" is not exactly my description! Making my guests happy is my goal! So you should have told me immediately that you were not happy and I would have offered you an alternative apt. The kitchen in the fuchsia room is a kitchenette with stove, oven, and all you need to cook!
I always ask my guests if they like the breakfast to be served in the dining room or if they prefer a self catered one, which was the option you chose! City tax as requested by Roman municipality has to be paid at all properties in Rome. Your traveling companions submitted a nice reviews, which showed that they appreciated our philosophy and the fact of being in a private house and not in a hotel.
Mosquitoes are a problem anywhere in the summer but we provide repellents to avoid them!
I hope you will enjoy Rome more next time but I suggest you don't chose a bed and breakfast as It does not seem to satisfy your needs!
Tranquil is the key to this property
A little piece of Oasis in the hustle and bustle of Rome beautiful family very quaint place wonderful location I would gladly stay there again Johnny
Quaint place, helpful host, ease in everything
This place was a perfect stay for two people. The room we got was a little studio with a kitchen and bathroom. The patio area was a wonderful place to relax and the two beds were very comfortable. Very clean, functional, and cute. Even better, right by the Vatican (though on the other side of the entrance). If you don't mind walking along ancient walls of a holy city, this place has easy access to historical sites, and is only a few blocks away from the Vatican Museum. Even better, there are great grocery stores and bistros in the area, as well as easy access to a Metro, which will connect you swiftly to other historical and tourist sites in this beautiful city. Recommended for sure.
Great stay - classically Italian
My husband and I stayed here for 6 nights for our 10-year wedding anniversary. We had a lovely time. It was in a good location along the Vatican wall where we were able to walk to the subway, restaurants and gelato shops with ease. We also made good use of the rooftop terrace. I always felt secure and safe while we were there. The lower apartment where we stayed was quiet and private. We had all the room we needed and all the amenities, kitchenware, appliances, etc. that we needed too. I think one thing to keep in mind when staying is that you are working with real people not a hotel system. The towels, bedding, and furniture all belong to a family so it isn't the same staying in a hotel. So, while there weren't fresh crisp towels every morning it felt more like we were at home. It was an authentically and classically Italian way of living for a time. We enjoyed partaking in the culture. We loved and appreciated our stay. Our host answered all of our questions, gave great advice, and was entirely flexible with us. It was a priceless addition to our stay in a foreign, complex, and beautiful city.
