This modern cedar-sided home offers comfort and convenience, but it is the peaceful, secluded aura that makes it hard to leave. Nestled into the hills, we are bordered by Forest Service land, which offers endless hiking opportunities. The breeze whistling in the pines truly induces peace and relaxation. The outdoor patio and deck space around the home invite family time or individual rest.
The home, built in 2002, has two levels, with the upper floor including a large master bedroom with glass doors leading to the back deck, large full bathroom, fully stocked kitchen, large family room and dining area. The lower level holds two bedrooms with queen beds, a full bathroom, laundry area, and large family/game room with a wood-burning stove. Five sliding glass doors and large windows offering beautiful views of the Hills are located throughout the home. Spacious rooms give every guest privacy, yet create openness for group activity.
Fully Stocked Kitchen: Guests are welcome to use the modern conveniences of a gas grill, dishwasher, refrigerator, electric stove, coffee-maker, and microwave. Cupboards are stocked with popular seasonings and staples such as coffee, flour and sugar. Cooking utensils, dinnerware, and silverware are all supplied in quantity.
An electric washer and dryer are available for guest usage in the lower level of the home.
Extra Comforts: Each bedroom features a newer queen-size mattress and its own thermostat for individual control. The home has electric heat, and with the shade of the surrounding pines, is very comfortable all summer.

About Kari O'Neill
We live on a farm/ranch about 180 mi. SE our vacation home. We love to get away to the Black Hills, and feel a natural pull to the area. I (Kari) work for South Dakota State University in Community Development. We enjoy spending time with grandkids and family, fishing, and hiking. Our roots are deep in agriculture, with Rick's ranch being in his family over 100 years.
Kari O'Neill purchased this House in 2010
Why Kari O'Neill chose Mount Rushmore
Simple - we LOVE the area and the home, and want to share it!
What makes this House unique
We are in the true beauty of the Black Hills. Wildlife comes up to the door and in the late summer cattle are around due to open grazing in the National Forest.

Wonderful get away
Very nice place, clean, comfortable with many amenities. The road up to the house & down is a bit scary. Close to all attractions but the place itself is wonderful very peaceful to come back to after a day of sight seeing.
Wonderful place in the woods!
Had a wonderful time. Pactola Lake is really close and we loved going there. We did all the obligatory places. Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Reptile Gardens. Easy to get to all of those places. Would definitely stay here again.
Great place for a family getaway in the Black Hills
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Black Hills. We wished we would have planned a few more days to enjoy the area. The cabin is remote for these city dwellers...but peaceful and super comfortable with a stocked kitchen, and comfy beds, and plenty of toiletries. We were able to enjoy Mt. Rushmore, Custer Park, Badlands, and Crazy Horse during our stay! The owners were responsive, and very understanding when we informed them our 4 year-old walked through a screen door. 😬
Great stay away from it all
The home was fantastic! It was great to be close enough to Rapid City, Hill City, Sturgis, and Deadwood yet "escape" to the quiet and privacy of this beautiful home. Loved watching the wildlife too!
Clean, comfortable cabin to come back to after a long day of seeing the area. Owners were very helpful and friendly; cabin had everything a person could want! Overall a great experience!
We loved everything about this cabin. It was centrally located for everywhere that we went. It was nice and roomy for our family of five. Would for sure stay there again if we head to the black hills for another vacation!!!
Thank you SO much! We love to share our home and feel so fortunate to host guests that treat it like their own!
