I've raised my kids here and been active in the La Jolla community for the past 30 years. We love this location because it's so convenient to everything the Shores has to offer. I'm a semi retired realtor and my husband is a retired general contractor. Our kids are grown and we spend our time keeping our rentals up to snuff, just the way we'd like to find them. I know you'll appreciate the little details we make sure are done. The basic spices for the cupboards, the paper products and the good games and reading material for balmy slow summer nights.

We had a mis-communication and disagreement with the owner. I am not saying that we were right or that we were wrong; but I want to warn any future potential renters that the owner does not email or text. I am simply suggesting that anyone who is interested in renting from this owner SEND A FAX or send registered letters to make sure you clarify everything and that you dont have the problem that we had.
The owner has multiple properties and although only ONE property is shown on VRBO, she told us "verbally" about some of the other properties that she owns (and their prices), locations, etc. We ended up renting one of her other properties, and that's where the problems occurred.
Makes you wonder why she doesn't post the other properties on VRBO?
This is not a scam .... but when you rely on "verbal" discussions and "people's memories", there are bound to be problems.
hope this was helpful
They say location is everything, and this property has the best location! Literally one minute walking from side gate until toes are in the ocean. The space is larger than it appears in the pictures. It’s the first floor, right side unit. There is a separate rental upstairs, and you share the back courtyard with the other renters. There is a private patio outside the sliding glass door in the dining area, with a great view of Kellogg park and the Pacific beyond. The very best thing though (maybe even better than the view), is the two car garage you have all to yourself! Beach parking in La Jolla can be competitive, so it was fantastic to be able to leave at any time and still be able to park upon our return.
The rental property is owned and managed by Vicki, who did everything to make our stay memorable. She was responsive to our questions and returned calls timely. The property provides body-boards, beach chairs, and plenty of nice beach towels, which we used daily at La Jolla Shores…the kids loved riding the waves. Great closets and storage in both bedrooms, and both bathrooms were spacious. We never ran out of hot water, even during simultaneous showers. The laundry room is very convenient when coming home with wet towels and such.
The rental is central to many tourist activities in San Diego, but be forewarned about traffic. There are only a couple routes to get into La Jolla, so during 5 o’clock traffic, it can take a while. The grocery store is a few miles away, but there are a few local stores and restaurants less than 2 blocks away (pizza, coffee, frozen yogurt, a small market, Mexican, sushi, Italian).
Lastly, don’t forget the sunscreen, or the hoodie! The cool coastal air masks the fact that your skin is frying under the California sun, and the mornings and evenings are chilly – especially when walking on the beach or having a bonfire across the street at La Jolla Shores. Also, excellent tide pools are down past the pier. We went down in the morning during a negative tide and the kids found starfish, crabs, snails, fish, and sea anemones.
Thanks for opening up this property Vicki. Unbeatable value for the location and the boys will always remember our La Jolla vacation!
My partner Emilio and I loved this place. Our kids are 4 and 6, so having the beach, a playground, and a park right across the street was great. Emilio and I were very surprised at just how warm the weather was. It was getting into the 80s. In January! can you imagine? The rental itself looked all new and Vicki ( the landlady, a sweet older woman) said they just remodeled the whole thing. Unfortunately, the dryer they installed didn't work, ( I guess we were the first renters after the remodel) but Ted, (Vicki's husband) came down the same day we called and fixed it. He's an absolute doll. Ted also gave us the number of a sitter for our girls so we could pop out for nice night out in downtown La Jolla. Anyways, my family and I had a great time we would definitely stay here again.
San Diego is home to Sea World, Lego Land and San diego zoo and safari park. There is an active Old Town with saloons and Haunted houses, fiestas and authentic Mexican food. La Jolla has the Playhouse for International theater, Torrey Pines Golf Course for world class golf and the beach...for ideal sun & fun.
