Overview

About the property

4 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, sleeps 16

Hunters are welcome, although there is no hunting permitted on the property or adjacent properties, there are many acres of State lands within 15 to 30 mins.

Prom groups are welcome at $90 per head per night. Adult supervision will be nearby. Security deposit of $2,000 required.

Camp Ankabos is located at the end of a 1/2 mile private road at the foot of Crane Mountain. The pristine Garnet Lake is a 5 minute drive and Gore Mountain downhill skiing is a 15 minute drive.

The Camp overlooks a mountain pond with a picnic area that is part of the 45 acres owned by the Buckskin Valley Homeowners' Association. The pond is very cold as it is spring fed, so it isn't really a swimming pond. The private lane is maintained by the Association. The seven homes in the Association are all second homes and there are rarely many people around. There are hiking and snowshoe/ski trails on the 45 acres.

The popular hiking trail to Crane Mountain is nearby and in the summer the kayaking and swimming at Garnet Lake is just superb.

Decorated in true Adirondack camp style with leather couches and a collection of antique taxidermy.

Large Jacuzzi tub in Master Bathroom suite.

Notes:
Snowshoe/Cross Country Ski Trails Camp Ankabos is part of the Buckskin Valley Association which owns 45 acres of common land. Several landowners in the area have given each other access to their property for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. NO SNOWMOBILING is allowed on the trails. When the snow is good, one of the property owners grooms the trails for cross country skiing. Groomed or not, they are still fine for snowshoes (and dogs). You can rent snowshoes and skis at Beaverbrook – mentioned below. If you decide to use these trails, it is strictly AT YOUR OWN RISK. They are not part of my property or part of the rental. There is a trail map on the kitchen counter at the Camp. The closest trailhead is a sharp right turn into the woods at the top of the Camp driveway.

Charming cabin!

  • 5 of 5

My family (2 adults & 3 kids), my brother's family ( 2 adults & 2 kids) & our parents stayed in this charming cabin for a week. We had a wonderful time, there was plenty of space for everyone. The kids loved the bunk room & the other three bedrooms were lovely, everyone had their own place to relax and get away if they needed.

The cabin is decorated so well, there isn't a detail missed. You have everything you could want in a mountain retreat. The kids loved roasting marshmellows on the fire outside at night and exploring the woods behind the cabin during the day.

We took day trips to Saratoga Springs, Lake George & other nearby hiking trails. If you want a place to get away from it all, relax and enjoy the outdoors this is the place to be. Thank you for sharing this gem in the mountains with us. We are already planning our trip for next summer.

Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Great vacation experience! Spent a lot of time at Garnet lake which is 2 minutes away. Found out you can put motor boats in the lake. No dock however. Would not put in a large boat. We saw 2 bear cubs playing in the back yard. My family had a great time!

Animals allowed

  • 5 of 5

Hi,

I am considering renting your home in July 2014. My daughter is allergic to animals and I noticed a dog in one of your pictures. Do you allow pets into your home?

AWESOME!!!

  • 5 of 5

We were a party of 8 adults, and ALL of us thought this was the best home we ever rented (and we have been renting homes for over 20 years). The place was stunning...you knew you were in the Adirondacks. We didn't see any other people on the property, just deer and other wildlife. I can't find the right words to describe the utter feeling of peace and calm while staying in this home...and never having to wait for the bathroom was a bonus! The wood stove added the right ambiance to the house...thanks for the firewood! I am so sorry we were only there for the weekend...we felt like we wanted to stay forever. Marilyn, thank you for opening up your home, it was a pleasure. Like the previous review, you had to drive to get to places, but being from NYC, driving on those country roads is a real treat and piece of cake...no traffic! Trust me when I tell you that you will not be sorry if you rent this home.

Beauty and tranquility - can't wait to return

  • 5 of 5

We booked this cabin because the pictures were awesome, but they do not do the cabin justice. The place is HUGE and beautifully decorated and appointed. My kids spent a few hours just running around the cabin marveling at the log structure, the extensive Adirondack decor and the taxidermy collection (not at all creepy as some can be). The property manager was such a nice guy, he not only patiently provided directions to near-by trails, lakes and swimming holes, but offered to lead me to the nearest gas station when I noted I was down to less than 1/4 tank. My kids hiked the woods, spotting deer and a beaver in the pond just behind the cabin! I enjoyed my coffee on the back decks watching the steam rise lazily from the pond each morning. We kayaked at Garnet Lake (not quite 2 miles away) and hiked Crane Mt (the views of which dominate the area). We LOVED it. Each night we made dinner in the large kitchen (very well equipped) and then made a bon fire in the fire pit. We enjoyed total privacy and the peace and quiet of the camp.

The cabin is enormous and can easily handle a large group. My kids loved the bunkhouse but given the amount of extra space, soon decided to take their own rooms, each one nicely appointed and comfortable.

The location is great, its a good 15 mins to a convenience store, but we had no issue day tripping to Loon Lake, Lake George or Lake Luzerne and when we wanted to just hang out - we had that awesome and tranquil deck that worked out great. We thought it was close enough to all the things we wanted, but far enough away that we had peace and quiet and no interruptions. (cell phone service was available at the top of the yard - but we seldom needed the phone because the camp has its own wifi)

I can't say enough good things about our experience, we completely enjoyed ourselves and can't wait to return

The area around the Gore Mountain Ski Resort is classic Adirondack country. Gore Mountain is a 15 minute drive away. In addition to the winter activities at Gore Mountain, there is kayaking and hiking very close by. In the winter, there are snow shoeing and cross country ski trails right out the back door of the property and many more in the vicinity. The property sits at the base of Crane Mountain (a popular mountain to hike), near the beautiful, largely undeveloped, Garnet Lake.

It is a very peaceful and secluded setting. Perfect for letting the children and pets run free.
