How can you not appreciate this view and this house? Steve is the point man and helps in so many ways. He went above and beyond just like last time so we felt like family. We can't wait to set up something for summertime.

A wonderful area next door, a park like area where kayaks and dogs can easily go in and out of the water. We keep the bottom of our dock at least 2 1/2 feet above the water level due to the possibility of an afternoon breeze that can cause huge waves. We recommend that guest take their boats out of the water before dark. The launching area is about two blocks away making easy access in and out of the lake. Being on the largest part of the lake we enjoy fantastic views and sunsets but the winds can cause large white caps. This can cause damage to either your boat, our dock, or both.

Beautiful and relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

Haven on the Lake is the perfect vacation home. We enjoyed hanging out on the deck watching and listening to the birds. At night, the fire pit was great - a beautiful place to enjoy a glass of wine. We made most meals in the beautiful and well appointed kitchen. We even watched a movie in the comfy living room with the giant tv. Thank you for providing Nexflix!

There were 3 of us girlfriends, so we each had our own bedroom - such a luxury. The beds are very comfortable. And the closets!!! so big!

The only problem was that we were only there for 2 nights, so we want to come back for a longer stay so we can take advantage of the kayaks provided - even with lifejackets!

It was so nice having the caretaker Steve to greet us and meet us before we left. He was so nice and informative.

Thank you so much for hosting us. You really have thought of everything to make a lovely stay.

We will be back!

Anne and friends

Nice house and great location

  • 5 of 5

A high school buddy and I decided to make Clear Lake the location for the 45th anniversary of our first fishing trip together in 1972. The house was perfect for us. We ate all dinners "in," and had no difficulties preparing our meals. Our guide was able to pick us up at the house's private dock. While the house is right on the main drag, we heard no street noise at night. Great flat screen TV with Direct TV channels. Used the Bose with its Bluetooth connection each evening during meal prep. Steve, the local point of contact for the house, was extremely responsive, a great source for local activity tips and a nice guy to just shoot the breeze with. An all-around great experience. Thank you. We'll be back for a future trip!

Nice property, odd situation.

  • 3 of 5

The house is very nice. It's mostly clean, and provides a lot of different things you can do, like kayaking, swimming, fishing, and bike riding. (Which is a good thing because the town of Lucerne is a ghost town - you'll be driving to nearby towns if you want to do anything else.)

The weird thing is the property manager. He's a really nice guy, but when the house is rented to people who are bringing a dog... Why would he be there with his dog already in the house when you check in? And worse, after you tell him "Hey, my dog is very protective, and isn't necessarily cool with strange people/dogs", why on earth would he do the same thing at check out and bring his dog again? This forced me to leave my dog in the car during check-in until we could get him and his dog out of there, and when we checked out I assumed he'd have the sense to not repeat the same mistake, but no, we again had to herd our dog out to our car to wait while he brought his dog in while we checked out. Very strange.

The other concern was that out of 7 days/6 nights there, there were only 3 days when I didn't have to communicate in some way with the property manager. We were on vacation, hoping to get AWAY from our phones. One day he had to let himself in to take the trash out (Couldn't your tenants do that?) One day he called to tell us the previous tenants had left a pillow behind that they wanted. He had us search the house for it, and we didn't find it. Later he told me that he had called the housekeepers (why didn't he call them before contacting me???) and they found the pillow in the trash, and they were going to give it back to the tenants. Do the previous tenants know that you're giving them their pillow back AFTER it was in the trash for a couple of days?

Again - the house itself is nice. Note that it is next to a vacant lot that serves as a "community garden", which we found means that it is usually occupied by transients. Not sure how many times I told somebody across the fence "No, I don't have a light.", and had people watching me fish from the dock. Also note that there is not a "beach" or smooth transition to the water - there is a "sea wall" about 6 feet above the water surface, and the dock is probably 4 feet above the water surface.

Finally... there are surveillance cameras all over the property, and they are powered on. It's pretty creepy to be on vacation and know that someone could be watching your every move from some remote location.

Nice, but odd.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, which we find somewhat puzzling. We are sorry that you did not enjoy your time with us and would like to take a moment to address your concerns in this “ODD” review. First calling Lucerne a "GHOST TOWN". Lucerne is a small lakefront town that has a Tower Mart, Marymount College, Park, Fishing Pier, Gas Station, Subway, Motorcycle Shop, Launching area, Best Meat Market in Lake County and Foster Freeze (our favorite). Regarding the trash that is located “on the side of the house” and “not in the house” as your comment “let him in” implied. We have in the past asked our guests to take out the garbage, sometimes they are offended or forget, leaving no room for additional garbage for the week. We asked Steve to do it himself and not bother our guests since they are on vacation! The pillow that previous guests left behind was not in the trash but was put in the garage for safe keeping until we heard back from them on where to send it. Yes we are next to a “community garden” which most people find as an asset. Our guests have expressed the privacy by not having an adjoining home is nice. Lots of the residents of Lucerne go to the community garden and fish since it is one of the luckiest fishing spots on the lake. Some of the fishermen have shown our guests what lures and bait to use turning it into a “Lucky Fishing Day” for them. The pictures we have on our website shows exactly the wall edge between the grounds and water. We have never advertised having a beach front to the water. Our dock is always at least two-feet above the water due to the winds that can come up during the afternoons. Being on the largest part of the lake is great for a wonderful view but can have large waves in the afternoons. This is also on our site. All guests are asked if they would like the dock lower to the two-foot level minimum and I believe when Steve asked you, you said there was no need to lower it. Finally regarding the surveillance cameras that are located only on the outside entrances. This being a vacation rental means that there are times the property is vacant. The cameras are hooked up to work with our alarm system and only go on when the alarm is set. We do not set the alarm when the home is occupied by guest. We take all reviews very serious and strive to earn 5 star ratings. As you can see from some of our past reviews, most of our guest have appreciated some of your bad points and saw them as positive.

Your place was amazing! It was so well stocked, beautifully decorated, well located and perfect for family fun! Steve, the property manager was awesome, gracious, and very accommodating. Our dogs were in heaven! Loved fishing and eating the fish we caught! It was worth every penny! Thank you for providing such a wonderful home away from home!

Beautiful Home & View!

  • 4 of 5

Our family really enjoyed the Haven on the Lake house. The inside was beautifully decorated, the water view was gorgeous, the kitchen had all the needed items, the beds were comfortable, and the linens and towels were very clean. The house manager, Steve, was great at being on time at check-in and check-out and our deposit was reimbursed the same day we left! We had a lot of fun hanging out, using the kayaks, fishing from the dock and relaxing while watching the sunset. Our only complaint was the cleanliness of the carpet. It looked a little dirty, so we decided to use the vacuum that was provided and found that the brush would not spin due to a large amount of hair build up. We cleaned the brush and found that the attachment was also clogged with dirt. After cleaning it all out, we proceeded to vacuum the carpet in the main family room. This resulted in a VERY large amount of dirt and hair in the vacuum compartment. After emptying the vacuum, we vacuumed a second time. We again ended up with another large amount of dirt and hair! It looked as if it hadn't been vacuumed in months! We let Steve know about about our issue and we hope that the cleaning staff will be addressed properly about this problem!

Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoy our home and thank you for bringing the vacuum situation to our attention. We have a portable vacuum for guest to use and a real heavy duty one for housekeeping. Unfortunately it had broken and we were waiting for our new one to be delivered. This was brought up to our housekeeping staff and will not be an issue in the future.
