About The Owner

Janet and I (Steve) are living and working in the metro Washington DC area. We love DC but we also love our mountain retreat in the Allegheny Mountains. We love the peace, nature, and attractions in the area. We love going to movies at the Majestic Theatre in Gettysburg, attending plays at the Totem Pole Playhouse, hiking and reading on the front porch.

Last year, we decided to share our retreat with others and we are so glad that we have. Our guests have said many nice things about our home.

The Owner purchased this chateau / country house in 2005

Why The Owner chose Dutch Country

We love this location because it is secluded but convenient with shopping 5 miles away (Walmart, Lowes, Target, etc), plenty of good restaurants and theatres nearby. It's plus that were so close to Baltimore and DC,

What makes this chateau / country house unique

It's very quiet and no one bothers us. We can get up and read for hours and no one knocks on the door, no unwanted phone calls. We find peace here.

Great place to stay. Very nice and comfortable home, that comes fully equipped and has a good sized yard. Perfect for a large family and pets. Easy to access and close to many sites. We came up for a ski weekend at Liberty and had no issues with the 20 minute drive to the slopes. Close to Chambersburg for shopping. We loved the living room with fireplace. Made full use of this room. The only recommendation is that the Wi-Fi name and password be added to the information book for ease of access. I would easily recommend this property to anyone. Looking forward to coming back this summer for a quite/comfortable stay and a chance to discover the area (e.g., hiking, fishing, golf, etc).

Great Place for a Gettysburg Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect place to stay. We loved the old-fashion charm of the home, and the location was ideal for visiting Gettysburg and hiking with our dog. The first morning there I woke up to a beautiful sunrise which I could see from one of my bedroom windows.

The living room fireplace was a plus and made it feel extra cozy during the evening hours. My sons and I loved it and we would stay again in a heartbeat...highly recommend. You will not be disappointed. Also shopping malls and restaurants are conveniently close.

Great place for a family retreat

  • 5 of 5

The property was just as described and was clean and well-maintained. Our family - 5 adults, a baby, and a border collie - really enjoyed this attractive house tucked behind several other properties along a wooded lane. The house was comfortably and attractively appointed, and we managed well with what was in the kitchen for cooking our meals. Steve answered my several inquiries promptly and graciously. We would recommend this property to others who might have reason to stay in the Chambersburg / Gettysburg area. We especially enjoyed spending time at Calendonia State Park - both baby and dog loved being in the creek that runs through the Park - and we were glad to enjoy some of the last days of the public pool being open there, as well.

This home was very relaxing just as the pictures. Overall we didn't want to leave. We were only there for a weekend stay but will definitely be back. The home is close to a lot of different things link Gettysburg, and parks and trails. We really enjoyed our selfsame. And steven the host was very nice and a pleasure to dealwith.

Charming, comfortable and quaint.

  • 5 of 5

We rented this home because my daughter was getting married in nearby Chambersburg and though a little farther away from town, it gave the 6 of us a little more room to stretch out rather than renting 3 hotel rooms. The cabin had a well stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, and a nice living area and front porch. Fun to walk up the hills around the neighborhood. The fireflies at night were amazing. Great stay for visiting Gettysburg as well. Half our group made the trek there on Saturday. The owner was responsive to the questions we had via the Home Away app. Try to get there before dark, because the house is a little hard to find off the highway and you have to drive up a steep hill to get there. Would definitely rent again.
