About Barb Brunius
Bob & Barb moved from Minnesota to be close to the ocean and to sail. We bought a great 40ft racing sailboat and spent much of the last 18 years in competitive racing in the Pacific NW. We purchased 16 acres on the top of Scott Hill in the Victorian Valley and built a custom home and guest home designed by renowned local Architect Roy Lundgren.
Barb Brunius purchased this Estate in 1998
Why Barb Brunius chose Orcas
We built on the Scott Hill location due to its peaceful seclusion and the fantastic marine views to the SE, South, West and NW. We also never tire of the year-round great sunsets. We built on Orcas Island because of its location -- near the ocean and close enough to the mountains for convenient skiing without living in the snow. We also love the weather. Orcas has short winters that rarely get snow, cherry blossoms in February and March, sunny summers, and generally moderate temperatures.
What makes this Estate unique
Privacy with expansive marine and mountain views, bird songs in a peaceful setting, camp fires in the woods, relaxing in the hot tub, swimming in the indoor 70-foot lap pool, and exercise facilities so you don't feel too decadent enjoying all the other amenities.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Amazing views, great location, loved the house!
We decided to stay at the Orcas Oasis for my birthday, what a lovely stay we had, very comfortable, clean and homey.
The views are amazing and it was so nice to have use of a private pool and hot tub!
We would definetly stay again and plan to go back.
The owners were very nice and helpful.
Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us!
Clean, comfortable and well stocked property.
Our group of seven 65 year old’s visited Orcas Oasis October 2017. We were met by Bob to get the lay of the land and our first glance at this oasis. It was truly beautiful. Barbara checked in on us in the evening to make sure we had what we needed and were comfortable. We appreciated their help throughout our stay. We booked, both, the main house and the guest house and each of us had our own bedroom and shared bathrooms. The houses and their amenities turned out to be perfect for us. The great rooms and decks were used the most for our visiting and catching up. The views from the entire house and decks were magnificent. Our plan was to have breakfast at the house and then leave each day for sightseeing. We didn't intend to cook much but did have a couple of simple meals at the house and had everything we needed. The kitchen is roomy, spacious and well stocked with all a group would need to cook their meals. The small store at the ferry terminal provided a close spot to buy groceries and they have pre-made pizzas, sandwiches, etc. Plus liquor and beer. We drove the entire island including Moran Park and Mount Constitution. The views were awesome. Our meal at Madrona (Main Street) in Olga was casual and delicious. The Inn at Ships Bay was a more elegant restaurant with unusual dishes, but yummy. A favorite activity was a whale watching boat tour. Our captain and first mate took us on a memorable ride to whale watch. The views were terrific and we followed a humpback whale for quite a distance. We booked with Orcas Island Eclipse Boat Charters and Tours which is located at the Ferry Terminal. Their location is a 7-10 minute drive from Orcas Oasis. Our stay at Orcas Oasis was amazing ! The only thing we needed was a few more days, especially to enjoy the property, pool and hot tub. Barb and Bob, thank you for sharing your oasis !
Great house and location, perfect.
We stayed in this property in August 2017. We traveled with another family of four so eight people total. This was are second wonderful visit to Orca's Island but first time in this house. It is a great house set in a secluded spectacular location with impressive views. The house is really well maintained and well look after. The hosts live on site and do not intrude but are very helpful too. Great house and location, have fun.
Delighted Green Bay Packer Fans from Wisconsin
My family had an absolutely delightful week at Orcas Oasis in July, 2017. I was there with my three sons and their families, including three children, ages seven, ten, and thirteen. Since the property has an attached guest house, the kids wanted to sleep in the guest house loft, and it accommodated them beautifully. Each couple had a bedroom, and I had my own bedroom-bathroom suite. The view from this wood and glass home is spectacular! Each evening we watched the sunset from a point about one hundred yards from the house, and were never bothered by bugs or mosquitoes, so common where we live. There was a large dining table overlooking the water, plus additional tables on the deck. Since our family of ten enjoys cooking, we took advantage of the well-appointed kitchen and prepared most of our meals there. The extra bonus was the wonderful indoor lap pool in the lower level. The kids and adults used it much more than we thought we would because we all enjoyed being in this beautiful place so much. The island offered many more activities than we could squeeze into a week. We were able to go sea-kayaking, did lots of hiking, and also rented a motor boat to take us to nearby islands. We celebrated my son's engagement by eating wonderfuI food at the Rosario Resort to round out our week. I would highly recommend Orcas Oasis for any family gathering. The kids always found lots to do, including playing hide and seek throughout the house and yard. The adults enjoyed the view and being able to have their own space. Don't miss an opportunity to visit this amazing place!
A True Oasis in the San Juan Islands from East Coast Visitors
We had a wonderful stay on Orcas island in July 2017 with our extended family. The views were absolutely incredible in all directions. We particularly enjoyed watching the sunsets off a lower patio. The large dining table was a great place for gathering for meals and playing games. Many of us enjoyed using the lap pool which was a very nice bonus. Orcas Oasis was a comfortable base for our island explorations to hike, shop, and dine. We have much more to explore and cannot wait for our next visit to Orcas Oasis.
Great stay at Orcas Oasis
We wanted to drop you a note to tell you how great a time we had at Orcas Oasis with our family. Everything about the visit to Orcas Island was even better than anticipated.
First, the accommodations were terrific. Having the two separate (but together) homes worked out perfectly. It gave our older daughter and son-in-law, with our two grandsons, their own sort of private space while still allowing our five year old grandson to come running over early each morning and jump into our bed for cuddles and private-time (letting his parents sleep a little later with the baby). And our other daughter and her boyfriend and our son (who had no problem getting in from overseas) loved our time together.
We ended up cooking almost every dinner at home, enjoying the breathtaking sunsets on the porches. Some or all of us used the exercise room, the lap pool and the main hot tub most days. And your substitute "hosts" were there when needed and seemed not there when that was best. They were so pleasant that we had some nice chats with them.
We took advantage of the beauty and activities of the San Juan Islands, on this our first trip there. We enjoyed parts of two days at Moran State Park, swimming, kayaking and the like. We went up Mt. Constitution and hiked and climbed the tower for beautiful views in all directions. We had one of our best whale-watching excursions (having been veterans of many in the past off Cape Cod), opting for a smaller boat (12 or so passengers) on the Outer Island Excursions from near Smugglers Resort north of Eastsound. Loved two visits to Bucks, bringing our own wine and beer for the freshest oysters, Dungeness crab and smoked fish. Rented kayaks nearby and went out near the humpbacks! And relaxed together as a family again—never even turned on a TV!
Thanks again for your help and advice and feel free to use this if you’d like since we don’t mind others knowing what a treat our stay at Orcas Oasis and the whole experience on Orcas Island was. We look forward to our next time there. Doug and Judy
1 mile from the Orcas Ferry landing. Google Maps (or your car's G.P.S.) should be accurate from ferry landing to Orcas Oasis. But don't count on GPS to find your way around Orcas as the maps often do not show Orcas local roads accurately.
We are 1 miles from a great grocery store, marina, restaurant, kayak tours, tour boats to see Orca whales, and coffee shop. We are 2 miles from Westsound village and about 7 miles from Eastsound.
