Just as the pictures look and as you would expect it

Evan was a great host, taking time to share the many fun things to do and see in the area.

The cottage is a perfect up-north cabin. It was very clean, and up to date and yet the decoration gave it a great, up-north rustic, comfortable, cabin feel. It was close and easy to get into and out of Traverse City (after the first trip, I didn't need to use my gps, making me feel like a local). Thumbs up

Great stay!! Evan is a great host. He is knowledgeable on the local vineyards and the river. I highly advise taking advantage of the kayak rental he offers. Great kayaking on the Boardman above and below the cottage with easy river access / parking in designated spots. Cottage is super clean and the kitchen has every type of pot, pan and utensil you need to prepare meals. Grill works great, fire pit very nice. Washer and dryer work great as well!! . We would definitely stay there again!!!

Beautiful house in serene location with great communal and outdoor space

  • 5 of 5

This is a great house! The main living area is very comfortable for a group of adults and children (plus there's a second living room downstairs should you have TV disagreements or older children who need space). The kitchen is better stocked in terms of dishes and cookware than any other rental we've used, and it's open to the living area so everything feels very social and communal. The master suite is lovely. Our only complaint about the house itself is that the only king-sized bed (which is actually 2 twins pushed together) is in a strange, damp, mildewy room in the basement, and the downstairs bathroom (which serves all 3 lower bedrooms) has a very weak shower and is far less nice than the other 2 full baths upstairs. Our group basically stopped using the downstairs bathroom altogether.

The outdoor space is perfect, particularly for families with kids. The river is beautiful, and fortunately is on the opposite side of the house from the HUGE main yard and driveway area so we didn't have to watch our 3-yr-old twins like hawks while they ran around. The fire pit is very easy to use. The back deck is beautiful -- we ate dinner outside every night. The whole setting is very quiet and secluded.

The caretaker (Ron) is very responsive and takes great care of the place, and the owner (Evan) is warm, friendly, and very easy to work with. We'll stay here again!

What a relaxing and wonderful spot for a home near Traverse City!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great experience staying at this home! Everything was in great condition, and very homey! We loved the screened in porch that allowed us to enjoy the river, but not get eaten up by bugs! Would definitely stay here again!

Dreamy Getaway Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed at the River Bend Cottage for a long weekend and we all wished we could have stayed much longer. The cottage is tucked away in a secluded area, with all the privacy and beauty of nature surrounding you. The property backs up to many acres of state property, which you are free to explore. Even though we were only 20 minutes from Traverse City, when at the cottage, it felt like we were far from the hustle and bustle, and could truly relax. The cottage comfortably fit eight adults in our party, with plenty of extra space to stretch out (two living rooms and three bathrooms!). Everything was clean and well maintained...beds very comfortable. We enjoyed the hot tub, bonfire (which was already set up for us when we arrived...very nice touch!), grilling, hiking in the woods behind the cottage, and enjoying the beautiful scenic river. This place is truly idyllic!

I also have to mention how wonderful the property owner, Evan, treated us. When we arrived, Evan gave us a friendly greeting and answered all of our questions about the house. He brought us detergent, condiments, and anything else we needed for our stay. When the hot water heater went out unexpectedly, Evan was just a quick phone call away and came right away to fix the issue so that we felt no inconvenience. Evan made sure we were totally comfortable and satisfied... a truly great host!

Thank you, Evan, for opening up your home to us! We will certainly be back!
