First of all, the view is stunning. We woke up early each morning and sat in the lounge chairs, enjoying our own coffee, and tropical birds on the grassy area in front our view of incomparable Hanalei Bay. The two of us didn't need all the space in the unit, but it sure let us spread out and enjoy 4 nights (and an extra half day that we reserved). It's fun to walk the path to the beach, and HBR is always well maintained. The Happy Talk Lounge is a great bonus, the Tropical Mojito is outstanding. The wine fridge in the unit was another bonus, as we brought 3 of our favorite wines to enjoy during our stay. We intend to return within the next few years and we will certainly stay again at HBR.

This location was excellent for seeing the north of Kauai. The lanai was perfect for morning coffee and evening sunset and the grounds were in beautiful shape.

The unit could use a bathroom floor/tub update and also needed was information regarding that cars could not be used to directly access the units; though the golf cart call service for transportation was very efficient.

I would definately rent here again.

Owner's Response: Aloha, Thank you for posting your review for the unit 8101 at the Hanalei Bay Resort. The unit does have incredible views which just enhances the time spent on the lanai whatever time of day. Thank you for the suggestion for a bathroom update and the owners certainly have been talking about this being a possibility. The resort is a pretty special place with the views the amenities and the beautifully landscaped grounds. Please come again in the near future!

Not What I was expecting.

We are a family of 4 with two kids age 15 and 12. I know the price for this condo was less than others on the property and now I know why. We first walked in and it felt like this place was just opened up after being closed up for a long while. The musty smell that lingered was very noticeable. We instantly recognized that the air conditioning was not working. Called the desk and they said Maintenance would check it out. I am not really sure they ever came as we were at dinner. Called back and they said it could not be fixed today because they did not have the part needed. Never fixed and never heard from again! Spoke with others at the resort who own condos there and they said the air conditioning never works in most units! The furniture could use a good cleaning or replaced. The drawers have many dead bugs in them. Just felt like no one had stayed there in a year! Many visits from very large cockroaches. Always wore my shoes so as not to have any surprises in the early morning! My teenage daughter was not fond of them!. Maybe it is because of ground floor and this is normal in Hawaii? Due to no air conditioning everything seemed sticky! When we first arrived I wanted to unpack my things since we would be there for 5 days. The storage was very lacking. The owner has so much personal stuff in the place that we did not have enough places to put our things. One closet is totally lock up and off limits. Found that to be strange. Most of the drawers and shelves had so many books and blankets we still mostly lived out of our suitcases. The best part of the condo was the views in the morning on the lanai. The view was perfect and peaceful. The owner had everything you would basically need in the kitchen and was kind enough to leave some nice useful gifts of coffee and snacks. Lots of beach chairs, toys, and such were also left in the closet for us to use. It was also stated in the contract that certain things were out of the owner's control if not working such as internet, air conditioning and local phone service. Now I know why. None of those ever worked. Could not even call to the front desk or dial a local number. No working phone or cell phone reception. Overall, I would not recommend to a friend. We have stayed at several VRBO places in the past and have always heard from the owner either during our stay or after to see if everything was okay. This was not the case this time.

Owner's Response: We at Vacation Realty Hawaii are always happy to rectify any issues that guests have and would have been happy to come down to the condo had we known about any of these problems during your stay. The contact information for our on-island contact is included in the confirmation emails as well as in the condo and we invite all guests in all of our units to contact us at any time. We are happy to help. The property has been consistently occupied for the past 3 years under our management. Unfortunately the resort experienced a power surge shortly before your stay and many air conditioning units and refrigerators were damaged. The parts have to come by barge so we were not able to fix the air conditioner immediately and we apologize for this delay. We were also unaware of any outages in the resort phone or wireless resort-wide internet systems. We have checked into this and they are in working order. All of our properties at Hanalei Bay Resort are professionally treated for pest control on a regular basis and we will follow up and inspect this unit. We are glad you enjoyed all of the extra kitchen and beach amenities. We take pride in providing popular guest items that are not included in many other vacation rentals such as beach chairs, boogie boards and coolers so you can enjoy the beautiful beaches that the island has to offer. Aloha, Kristen J Greene PhD Owner, Vacation Realty Hawaii LLC
