I have been in Hawaii for over 25 years now and work at an Environmental Consulting firm as a Sr. Scientist/Water Resource Specialist. My wife, who has been in Hawaii almost as long as I, is a Professor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. We try and take advantage of the pristine ocean swimming, surfing, hiking and biking spots that are offered here on Oahu.
Karl Bromwell purchased this apartment in 2011
I came to Hawaii in 1986 on a surf excursion from NC after college and fell in love with the islands. I've lived all over the island, but ended up purchasing property in 2002 with my wife on Punch Bowl Crater. We started construction in 2004 and moved into our Hawaiian Pole House on the slopes of Punch Bowl Crater by February 2005. We've just recently completed the vacation rental in the space below the main structure.
This tropical property offers beautiful views, island-style living, while centrally located providing easy access for day trip excursions!
The neighborhood is good and removed from Waikiki and very close to punchbowl. Location is good. The unit is relatively new. Some issues however. If you are only using the one bedroom, it is fine. The roll away bed in the living room is really horrible for sleeping. I was able to get my hands on an inflatable bed for the remainder of my stay but this should be improved. The kitchen is lacking is the simple things if you cook. Many simple things missing and no rack to dry dishes. No dishwasher but that is OK. Garbage disposal did not work. I don't expect everything but I feel there were too many things missing. The owner is a nice guy and we used some of his boogie boards for the price some of these items should be provided.
My husband and I very much enjoyed our 2 week stay here! The suite is quite spacious, very clean, with a full kitchen, laundry facilities, internet, no charge for parking, and an awesome view! Although the suite does not have air conditioning, the ceiling fans are sufficient. Beach mats and snorkel gear are provided as well as a travel cooler which was a life saver for packing our daily lunches! The owner is very accommodating, allowing a late check-in and ensuring we had everything we needed. The quiet neighborhood is central to the major highways, and only a short drive to Waikiki. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a "home away from home", and will certainly be staying again on our next trip to Hawaii!
Karl responded quickly to my emails, as my arrival was only days away by the time I discovered this gem online.
The apartment is simple and comfortable with a dining table, fold-out couch, tv/dvd, a kitchen and a washer/dryer. Plus a good sized bedroom and wifi.
We ate breakfast then packed our cooler (thanks, Karl) and headed to the beach (with towels and toys provided at the apartment). It took maybe 25 minutes to get to Kailua Beach where it was usually sunny.
We rented a car and it was easy to park on the street.
My only word of caution is to be prepared to walk up the ramp and steps, which I wouldn't even mention except I was carrying a 40 lb kiddo. So I got some good exercise nightly as I carried her up to bed after a long day out and about.
I would stay here again (which we are thinking about!) and I have passed it on to a couple of friends.
We chose to be away from the tourist bustle and this did not disappoint. With a.m. and p.m. rainbow views toward the mountains on most days(winter), roosters crowing, dogs barking, and morning bird chorus, it's an escape from the city. Breezy, clean, and comfortably equipped. The owners are very helpful, friendly, and provide fast dependable wifi. The Bus stops hourly within yards of the driveway. It's a steep walk up to the rooms, but worth it. We were able to keep our bicycles in the street level garage. Roadside parking is adequate.
What an amazing little place. We had everything we needed and an awesome view. We slept like babies listening to the rain through the bedroom window. A quiet neighborhood and the proximity to the punchbowl made it easy for tourists to find (we followed the signs to the punchbowl). The house is pretty centrally located to everything. We felt very at home and throughly enjoyed our stay. We will be back!!!
My husband and I were pleased to have this opportunity to stay outside Waikiki, at a location with easy access to many routes around the island. The apartment was clean, well equipped and comfortable. There's a parking stall on premises, which is adequate for most visitors (we are local residents, and were even able to find parking for both our cars!). Recommend -- especially for a couple or small family with plans to get out and about.
