Lovely property, however, because of the arrival of the outer bands of Hurricane Irma, we had a power outage for a period of over 30 hours. The home was not outfitted with any equipment ie, battery operated lanterns, and other items, to deal with loss of power, the grill was out of gas, therefore we could only improvise and cook in the fireplace and catch water from the rain in order to flush toilets. Could no get out of area due to trees down for two days. Also, we did not know the remotest of the home(2 miles off the main highway) when we booked the property. All in all, the home itself was very nice.
Irma did wreak havoc in the neighborhood. A large tree fell that took out power in the entire neighborhood and blocked the road. We have very stable power which the house has not been without for more than an hour in many years.
Wonderful Home with Amazing Views
Great layout with three private bedroom suites and two separate living areas. Wifi and Directv worked well. Wifi occasionally got a little spotty if you were on one side of the house. It was warm during our stay but the large stone fireplaces in both living rooms make for a cozy gathering space. Nice, large dining table but we mostly ate outside on the covered deck at the high top table enjoying the long range views of the mountains. Nice kitchen with all the dishes, utensils and appliances you need to prepare meals. We never ate out!
Property is tucked about 2.5 miles off of highway in a very nice development of secluded, large lot mountain homes. Road in/out is a paved one lane drive that twists and turns. (makes for a nice challenging morning walk). Took us about 20 minutes to get to downtown Highlands. 40 minutes to Cashiers. Lots of trails, waterfalls and hiking nearby.
If there was one thing that slightly disappointed us, it was that we had to clean a bit when we got there. We are admittedly super-picky so when we saw the beautiful view obstructed by dirty windows, we cleaned them. We also cleaned the grill to our specifications. (Some people would probably say we have a problem ;) The only other thing I would have hoped for was for the grass and front of the house to be better kept. A little overgrown. That said, having morning coffee or an evening glass of vino sitting in a rocking chair looking out over a spectacular mountain view made up for everything. And in all fairness, the beds, bathrooms and rest of the house were all very clean.
We would definitely return to this property.
Beautiful and Peaceful Mountain Home with Stunning Views
This is a fantastic home - perfect for a peaceful retreat!
Enjoying the mountains
The house is absolutely beautiful and the view is spectacular. There are numerous things to do/see close by. We appreciated the seclusion of the house and completely enjoyed our visit.
We had a great stay! We came for 3 nights over Thanksgiving and really enjoyed our time. We had 5 adults and a small child. There was a great amount of space (we loved the 2 sitting/living rooms), a well stocked kitchen and grill and great outdoor space. The views are incredible and the pictures extremely accurate. We'll definitely come back!
Our family rented this home for a week and enjoyed it very much. It was my husband and I and our 2 adult children couples, It was the perfect floor plan. The main level was spacious, warm and functional, where we enjoyed meals and playing games. The lower level provided room for the younger couples to sleep and have time together. Each level had outside porches to views the gorgeous scenery. The photos we saw of the rental were accurate and all of the amenities were in working order. The home was clean and fully equipped with everything we could want. Of course, we shopped for the food we cooked. I probably worried the manager to death with questions before our arrival, but he never seemed annoyed! We ate many fabulous meals in the Highlands. We dined at Paoletti's, Cyprus, Wild Thymes, The Bistro on the Hill, The Pizza Place and had ice cream at Sweet Treats! We found a great consignment store, Victoria's Closet. Also, found great gifts at Bear Mountain Outfitters, Hen House Condiments and Highland's Fine Art. We enjoyed a relaxing massage at Tranquility Cove. There were several trails right by the house that we hiked, and many more in the Highlands. The only thing that was a little stressful was that Highland Gap Road is narrow and 2.5 miles long and we were unaccustomed to mountain driving at first. But as the week progressed, we became old hats with the road. It does have beautiful scenery on it, as a waterfall.
Far enough in off the main road to be peaceful and quiet yet close enough to town to make the trip effortless, this mountain home offers the best of both worlds. The home is located a couple miles off the main highway, which makes it perfect for a relaxing mountain getaway. The views off of the huge back porch are spectacular, making it the perfect place to enjoy some quality time with your loved ones. However, if you are in the mood for a different type of scenery, the town of Highlands, NC is an easy drive, only a few miles away. This town offers a variety of things to do. Highlands is home of the famous Old Edwards Inn, where you can enjoy their spa. The Highlands downtown area also offers many unique shops that you can peruse. This area also has quite a few scenic golf courses, one of which is located in Highlands. Come see for yourself, and enjoy a relaxing stay in a beautiful mountain home.
