About the property

Fully Furnished 3 Bedrooms 3 Terraces, Sala, Courtyard, 4 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Casa Diamante is a luxurious, fully-furnished Spanish-colonial style casa with spacious rooms (three bedrooms, four bathrooms) three terraces with inspiring views of San Miguel’s iconic Parroquia and Historic Centro. The casa is situated on the historic and cobblestone street of Montes de Oca in a quiet, safe neighbourhood just four blocks from the artistic, social and cultural heart of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico.

Spacious and comfortable, Casa Diamante offers bright, colourful interiors with living spaces for relaxing including an outdoor sala, roof-top tejado, lush gardens and stunning panoramic views. The 18th century architecture, thick adobe walls, high ceilings, arched doorways and colourful ceramics are creatively mixed with modern amenities and contemporary Mexican décor. “It’s SO fantastic! It truly is San Miguel” states Toller Cranston noted artist and Canadian figure skating champion.

The large, fully-quipped kitchen with a ceramic-tiled island for cooking and seating, comes with extras including a microwave, blender, Kirkland cookware, a toaster oven and beautiful ceramic bowls and serving dishes from Delores Hidalgo. A full water purification system provides safe drinking water throughout the house.

In the dining room, the one-of-a-kind, hand-made dining table and high-back, upholstered chairs seats up to eight people in style and comfort. Both dining and living rooms have glass doors opening up to a garden courtyard with a fountain, wood burning fireplace and outdoor dining area.

Opening onto the garden courtyard with wood-burning chiminea, the large master bedroom has a king-size bed, ornately carved headboard, fireplace and walk-in closet. The oversize bathroom has double sinks, a separate ceramic – tiled shower with a rain head, plus a Kohler whirlpool bath encased in pink Cantera stone. A glass ceiling and a walkout to a tiny garden gives this bathroom a luxurious feel.

The second bedroom is equally large with a Juliette balcony overlooking the courtyard, an ensuite bath with double sinks, a shower stall and lots of natural light. The third bedroom, with its own private bathtub and shower has single beds and doubles as a study with desk and work space.

San Miguel is acclaimed as the creative capital of Mexico and home to a vast community of artists, writers, poets. Steeped in history, folklore and legendary tales it sparkles with year-round celebrations, music festival, fireworks, parades and pageants. Nestled at an altitude of 6400' in the mountains four hours north of Mexico City, it boasts spring-like weather year-round and with temperatures in the 70°s F (21-26° C.), blue skies, brilliant sunshine and low humidity, San Miguel is an unique paradise.

San Miguel is almost 500 years old, and the cobblestone streets, houses, monuments bullring and cathedrals reflect this but nearby are modern conveniences including shopping plazas, nightclubs, live theatre and cinemas. In the historic center, there are an estimated two thousand doors, behind which there are at least two thousand courtyards of various contemporary design. Most of the casas have been restored to their former colonial state, with facades of ochre, orange and yellow, windows and doors framed by handcrafted ironwork and made of hewn wood.

You can visit nearby shops, art galleries, outdoor craft markets; botanical garden, spas, cathedrals, hundred of top-notch reasonably-priced restaurants. There’s plenty to do here including taking classes in drawing, painting, ceramics, weaving, photography, printmaking, language, cooking, yoga or visiting art galleries, exhibitions, concerts hall, horseback riding, hiking, golfing or simply enjoying the grandeur and unique ambience of a UNESCO world heritage site.

From SMA there are wonderful historical, ecological, archaeological or just plain magical places to visit. Guanajuanto (famous for shoes and leather goods), Dolores Hildalgo (known for Talavera ceramics and tiles), La Luz (ghost mining town famous for gold and silver) and Xote (hot springs/swimming park) make wonderful day trips.

Depending on the number of persons our standard rental rate is $150 per night which includes the services of a housekeeper, gardener, maintenance, taxes, internet, satellite television and utilities. Minimum rental is one week. Our housekeeper Teresa or gardener-handyman Miguel who speaks excellent English will help you with all your needs or requests. A wonderful, tastefully decorated and spacious Mexican-style home away from home.

Why John Dimon chose San Miguel de Allende

San Miquel de Allende is one of the friendlist, safest and nicests towns in Mexico, situatied high in the mountains it guarantes awseome spring like weather all year round. It offers a ton of artistic activities and the community consists of artist, poets and writers of all descriptions. An inexpensive, tranquil, social place to live with a multitude of creative experiences to enjoy.

“Dear John, We are nearing the end of our stay at Casa Dimon with the fondest of memories. It has been all that we hoped it would be when I knocked on your door one year ago. You have a wonderful home that is both warm and inviting as well as comfortable. Having our morning coffee while glazing out at San Miguel was an unforgettable way to begin our day and seeing the sunset each night was the perfect way to end each day.”

"There is a problem with this casa -- it is so INCREDIBLE that you do not want to leave! The rooms are spacious and the bedrooms are separated enough that everyone has privacy yet the common spaces are very comfortable. We spent most of our time either in the kitchen or the sala. I brought colored pencils and papers to do sketches while I was there but never took them out of the suitcase because I never wanted to take my eyes off the beautiful views from the upstairs. I like to use bullets so here goes..... --I do not think you can get better views than from this house --hummingbird visited the flowers while we sat in the dining room eating breakfast --watched the rain slowly move across the valley --listened to the burble of the frog fountain at night --fast and informative correspondence from John --wonderful staff --three generations/six people stayed and all felt very private and comfortable -- photos cannot do this house justice: large rooms, awesome 3.5 bathrooms, double door fridge/freezer, filtered water throughout the casa --terrific location (historic centro, uphill for best views.)" What makes this house unique

Casa Diamante is just a few blocks from San Miguel's many shops, art galleries, restaurants, cantinas, hotels, spas and artisan markets so there is much to enjoy just a few minutes away.

Because there is an unobstructed view of the famous Parroquia and central Jardin we can enjoy the lightshows and fireworks from any of our three terraces.

We are a 25 minutes drive from the town of Deloros Hidalgo, one of Mexico's ceramic capitals. Fabulous bargains on beautiful and very useable handpainted ceramics including large serving bowls and platters. There are a number of natural thermal mineral springs within easy access.

Within walking distance there is also the local Biblioteque (library) with English books, theatre, movies and lectures. Because the casa is Spanish colonial in design and on one of the oldest streets in San Miguel you get a true feeling of the destination. A real sense of place.

Theresa & Miguel will both be missed and I'm sure that you and Anne have tried to figure out ways to have them be with you in Toronto.....The word that comes to mind while describing SMA is "magical" and we are looking forward to another six weeks here next season, albeit in another home that we hope is as wonderful as yours was for us. If anything goes astray with the rental for next year please let me know. Perhaps in the upcoming years we can once again get together. Best regards and thanks for sharing your home with us”...
