Cabin Near Salida
Our log cabin serves as a peaceful and relaxing retreat. Located on 40 acres at 8,600' in ponderosa and lodgepole pine forest at the base of Mount Shavano, it feels remote and yet is only 20 minutes from the bustling and artistic town of Salida. Heated with a wood burning stove (supplemented with a propane heater) and powered by solar, it is unbelievably quiet and the stars incredible on a moonless night. From here you can enjoy whitewater rafting or fly fishing on the Arkansas River, mountain biking or hiking, skiing in the winter at Monarch Ski Area (30 minutes away), or simply relaxing.
The cabin has two bedrooms, each with comfortable queen sized beds covered with fluffy down comforters. We also have a sleeping loft which has two twin beds and a double sized futon couch. So, the cabin can sleep up to 8 comfortably in beds. We have a full kitchen with a refrigerator (but no dishwasher) and a beautiful bathroom with a deep bathtub and a hot shower. For those wanting to stay for more than a week, please also be aware that we do not have a clothes washer or dryer.
The open floor plan connects the kitchen with a living room and a dining area. Large windows throughout allow the downstairs to be brighly lit with natural light.
This is a cabin in the woods and, as such, is somewhat rustic. You may find a cricket in the bathtub upon your arrival. You may even encounter a mouse. There is minimal traffic on the road next to the cabin, but young children shouldn't be left unsupervised outside.
