The Cabin is a charming spot for a respite from the 'civilized' world.

Two bedrooms each with a queen bed.

Soak in the claw foot tub.

Sit on the deck and see miles and miles of the rolling Blue Ridge Mountains.

Marvel at the number of stars and fireflies you can see at night.

Spend your days relaxing and letting your dog run on the 21 acres, or mosey down the mountain for the many many nearby activities. There will be something for everyone.

Spend your evenings snuggled inside by a fire in the fireplace built from stone gathered on the property or gather around the outdoor firepit to roast marshmallows, make smores, and tell ghost stories.

The Cabin was built in 1963. We have updated it just a bit for comfort but we treasure the place so we believe we have maintained its charm. Read the reviews...many who have stayed here agree; we think you will, too.

In keeping with the peaceful setting of The Cabin and the surrounding acreage, the discharging of any firearms is strictly forbidden on the property. We appreciate your cooperation.

About The Owner

After I bought The Cabin in 1998, my husband became a mountain lover too. Being in the mountains reminds me of the old Native American, Nesmuk, who is credited with saying, 'We don't come out here to rough it. We come out here to smooth it. Things are rough enough in town.' Just driving up the road to the place creates a feeling of serenity we don't find anywhere else. We're sure you'll agree.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 1998

Why The Owner chose Blue Ridge Mountains

The location is perfect because it is isolated, surrounded by over 100 undeveloped acres, yet just a short drive into town for everything you need and close to many wonderful trails, sites, and activities.

Great Mountain Cabin Get Away

  • 5 of 5

We drove up the private road and fell in love with the cabin at first sight. The location was superb, with a breathtaking view over a valley towards Grandfather mountain. We parked the car and went into cabin to find everything neat as a pin, tastefully decorated and everything one might need for a week’s vacation. The great stone fireplace, knotty pine paneling, exposed natural beams, claw foot bathtub, and comfortable furnishings, all added to our dream week vacation. We ate most of our breakfasts on the front deck that looked out over the valley. We discovered several wonderful hikes right around the cabin along the ridge of the mountain. The towns of Newland, Linville, Banner Elk, Grandfather Mountain, and Blowing Rock are within easy driving distance, yet the private mountain road leading to the cabin gave us a great sense of isolation.

Don’t miss Old Hampton Store. Check with the owner for dates of live music, and festivals.

We enjoyed hours of eating, dancing and listening to live music while we were there.

Amazing Views, Cozy Cabin, Great Location

  • 5 of 5

The views are breathtaking and constantly changing as the clouds come and go. The sun rises off to the left of the deck so although not a direct view, the sky is breathtaking in the mornings. You could easily spend all day outside on the spacious deck or by the firepit as you enjoy the view. The cabin itself is welcoming and cozy. It is ideally located close to the parkway, multiple trails, and a close drive to other small towns. We cannot wait to go back. Peg was a great to work with!

Lovely mountaintop escape, beautiful view

  • 4 of 5

We wanted to escape the world for a few days to get away from work and life and stay in a quaint little cabin on a mountain top with a beautiful view to enjoy, and that's just what we got. Sitting on a mountain top and enjoying a beautiful fall view is my bliss. The owners were easy to work with, the cabin was lovely, we brought along our food and our Roku and while we had PLANS to explore around the area, we really didn't leave once we'd arrived, we were having such a good time relaxing at the cabin!

The cabin has wifi and you can use your Netflix or other online channel accounts through their Internet-channel-enabled Blu Ray Player. We hooked up our Roku so we didn't have to sign into all of our accounts in a new place, it worked fine, albeit a bit slow. Internet speed at the cabin was SLOW, like half a megabit per second slow (I usually get ~100 at home with Time Warner Cable's mid range speed package), BUT surprisingly while it took Netflix a little longer to load up a stream to watch, it never interrupted it to buffer it once it got going (the same can't be said for my connection at home!), so it was good enough for our needs.

We did a little exploring up the trail from the cabin - be forewarned that it is steep and rough terrain, with a lot of switchbacks to get you up to the mountain ridge, but if you're a mountain hiker kind of person, you'll enjoy! Getting up to the cabin on the narrow gravel road was a little challenging, but nothing our Buick sedan couldn't handle. The view from the deck was delightful and we spent a lot of time just sitting out on the deck and enjoying the view. We were only a few minutes from town (with 2 full grocery stores and other amenities), but with the cooler of food and supplies we brought, we didn't have to go anyplace once we arrived - it was a completely private and WONDERFUL escape!

As other reviewers have mentioned, the stairs to the loft bedroom are precarious and narrow and steep, but it's a lovely bedroom, with more room around the bed than the one downstairs. Since there were just two of us we enjoyed time in both. The couch was so comfy it put us to sleep snuggled up each night before we made it to bed. Rest and relaxation was in order before this trip and we sure got it!

Picturesque Cabin

  • 5 of 5

The Cabin was very charming and well stocked with kitchen essentials and spices/condiments. The water temperature was not hot for too long so I am not sure how that would play out with a whole family staying. However, the two of us were able to have hot to warm showers so was sufficient for us. Wood was available for the beautiful stone fire which was lovely to have while we watched movies. The DVD player was a little jumpy and blanked out the screen periodically throughout the movies we watched but did the job. There were plenty of blankets and pillows and detailed instructions on operating the heater which we ended up turning on at night. We have a Subaru and found the driveway fun but could be a little dicey if you do not have a 4WD/AWD vehicle. The owners live on the acreage so are nearby (though unseen) if you need them but respect privacy. We loved the smell of the cabin-- very authentic wood cabin- and appreciated the craftsmanship. The upstairs bedroom would be perfect for younger knees as the incline is quite steep. There is a bedroom downstairs that is very easy to access. Take note that the owners attached an Ingles card to the keys--- this will save you lots of money at the grocery store. We picked up groceries before heading up to The Cabin the very first time but would have considered driving back into town after getting the keys/Ingles card. It also is free to start your own card if you wanted to save a little extra on groceries. Thank you for having us!

Lovely Quaint and Comfy Cabin With a Killer View

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is an excellent place to stay for a vacation. Relaxing, quiet, and secluded with all the necessities and a large amount of charm as well. The view is just lovely- you'll never want to leave the porch. Peg is super-responsive, gives very clear instructions and offers helpful information.
