About Nancy & Bob Lumnah
Bob is originally from the adjacent town, Enosburg. He has many fond memories of his time in northern Vermont from helping his grandfather work the family farm, helping his father in his grocery store, tapping the local maple trees and making his own syrup (which was sold in his father's store), and the special times at his grandfather's camp on Lake Carmi. After several years of camping & renting on Lake Carmi, we brought our cottage on the Westcott Shore. They say you can never go back home to live, so this is the best solution - a life of relaxation here at Carmi. Bob took off to Boston for college and later met Nancy, (a city kid) who was a teacher. Eventually they raised a family of 6 kids ending up in NH. Today they split their summers between work & Lake Carmi traveling 4 hours for long weekends/weeks to enjoy the tranquility of Lake Carmi often working from their camp. (The wonders of WIFI!) The best of both worlds.
Nancy & Bob Lumnah purchased this Cottage in 2013
Why Nancy & Bob Lumnah chose Franklin
With 6 kids and 21 grandkids, our camp was often bursting at the seams and additional camps had to be rented for family weeks. As much as they loved the relaxing feeling of campy camps, there are a number of individuals with allergies and many camps were detrimental with mold issues. We needed another place to board our clan that minimized the allergy flare-ups. During the summer of 2013, we purchased the property at Tanner Junction. Much work needed to be done. We sided the cottage, put in new flooring, updated the kitchen to retain a 'country look', but much easier to clean, more counter space, and provided more storage and easier accessibility to utensils. New linens & bedding were purchased as It made sense that a person going on vacation would only want to bring their clothes (& motor boat), but pick up the groceries locally. A chef would desire a kitchen full of gadgets, so he could whip up his famous Belgian waffles on Sunday morning with the berries he picked or perhaps make that pie. On the other hand, there are others who would think of a relaxing vacation as hitting the frozen foods section at the super market & zapping or broiling (or using the campfire). To accommodate all types, we needed to refurbish the kitchen. It is not perfect, but we feel that we have made a balance that states ' We are home'! The water front has awesome views - hidden previously by the overgrown cedars which we trimmed so that now while sitting on the porch you feel as though you are actually on the water surveying God's country of farms & mountains. With an eye toward environmental & safety issues, we now have a safe parking area, a space for volleyball, gardens and blueberries and raspberries. All this without destroying the woodsy quiet character surrounding this cottage and lake. The 'lock-off', second floor, provides an opportunity to expand your gathering (extra fee) in a fresh new space. We welcome you to share in tranquility in 'Serenity'.
What makes this Cottage unique
Purchased as a 'diamond in the rough', we have spent much time enhancing the views from the porch and kitchen. To just have the opportunity to sit on the rocker with a book in hand, enjoy the breeze, and the views, is truly a gift. To doze off, well you're on vacation, go for it. To sit on the dock with your feet dangling in the water with no cares - ahhh. OK party poopers, there is WIFI and air conditioning! (Unusual in most cottages.) We are centrally located for lots of day trips. See elsewhere for their listings. We'll provide more info in our book of notes at the cottage. With Canada at our door steps, plan on bringing your passports - just in case.
Please consider the following guidelines when booking this property:
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date. 50% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
We had another great stay at the camp we look forward to it again next year they're awesome people
Would highly recommend this Camp to rent AAA plus plus
Lovely camp on a lovely little lake
The house was great. the owners had it full of everything you could think of for a vacation get-a-way. Enjoyed the deck, porch , kayaks, and fire pit area a great deal. Used the camp as a base to explore northern VT and Frelighsburg Quebec (2x). Saw beavers at Missisquoi Nat Wildlife Refuge, visited Rouse's Point in NY. Hiked Jay Peak. Found Three Ponds in Montgomery...what a treat. Enjoyed all the cows and farms and local cheese (award winning)...
Really a great vacation.
Thanks Bob and Nancy
Thank you Richard.
You too get a 5 star rating as a guest. There is so much of nature to be explored within a short distance. We are delighted you took this opportunity to recharge your batteries. "Serenity" itself is in a peaceful setting to come 'home' to & relax after a day of exploration. In the morning one can relax with that cup of coffee on the porch & see the glorious sunrise - breath taking as it comes up over the mountains and reflects its grandeur in the lake at your feet. Finishing the day at the fire w/ a hot cup of cocoa and some marshmallows makes for sweet dreams.
For those who want a more commercial vacation, there are plenty of museums, unique shops etc. to explore within driving distance on either side of the border.
Of course one can stay put & enjoy all the activities the lake has to offer - swimming, sun bathing, kayaking to name a few. It is a haven for fishermen.
Thank you once again, Richard, for choosing to spend your time with us. Wished we could have heard that cello practice at our nearby cottage.

A perfect lake vacation for our family!
Nancy and Bob were great, providing us with plenty of information about the property and area prior to our arrival. The lake cottage was just lovely. It was clean and well equipped, so all we needed to bring was our own clothing and some food. We quickly made ourselves comfortable. :)
We expected to take a lot of day trips to Burlington, Montreal, Jay Peak, etc but our daughters (8 and 4) were having such a great time on the water with the kayaks, paddleboat, and swimming that we stayed around the aptly named 'Serenity' camp most of the week. Grilling, board games and campfires rounded out our peaceful evenings. Lake Carmi was a great location for us to unwind and enjoy that last week of summer before the craziness of the school year sets in. Highly recommend it!
Thank you so much for letting us know how relaxing your vacation was.
Many people just want to stop and get away from today's fast pace and recharge their batteries. The lake has much to offer - swimming, kayaking, fishing, exploring nature or just sitting inside the screened porch reading a book on a rocker.
This location has lots of offsite places to visit withing driving distance. Whether you choose to drive over the border to Montreal or to stay stateside and visit Burlington, climb or tram up Jay Peak (or visit the indoor water park on a rainy day), go for a drive to find that maple creamee, or find adventure in the age old favorite swimming hole complete with rope swing you know you have a "HOME" with a comfortable bed to rest your weary bones at night and a dock to soak those tired feet.
Thank you Sara for letting us know your family did relax. It was a true pleasure to meet your wonderful family. We have always said when the kids are happy, the parents are too. Sounds like you all won.

Great place on the lake
We stayed one week with 2 teenage kids at Serenity and it was awesome! The house was comfortable and well equipped with everything you may need during your stay. We will certainly come back there next year.
Thank you Ilia.
It was a delight to have you. We try to anticipate the needs of our guests and have a ready supply of items to make your stay memorable. Our goal is to provide our guests with a relaxing atmosphere where all they truly need to bring in is their food and clothes. Our cottage is equipped with a/c for those hot days, a large porch to look for rainbows on the rainy days and wifi for those that need to stay in contact with others. You certainly had your share of hot days!
Thank you for your review.

Lake living in Vermont
Serenity was a great way to spend a vacation away from home. We loved the ability to spread out and enjoy the feelings of home. The morning wake ups on the lake beats hotel living. Fished every day and enjoyed the amenities for fun on the water. I definitely recommend this site and this way of vacationing. Nancy and Bob were great hosts and answered any questions promptly. Sorry we brought the hot weather up this year.
Great house. Exceptionally cleaned and well stocked!
Serenity is a peaceful house on relaxing Lake Carmi. I have rented many a vacation homes and have never stayed in one so well stocked and so cleaned. The kitchen had everything you could need and more. Toilet paper, napkins, soaps, etc. was all there for us. Even coffee!! And the coffee maker made good coffee. The fire pit area was perfect as was use of the kayaks. There was a great grass area for the kids to play games on as well. The screened in porch was lovely for relaxing without worrying about mosquitos. We even were able to use it during a rain storm. Tons of sleeping space and beds were comfy. The owners were a breeze to work with and very accommodating as well as helpful with providing ideas for area recreation.
Thank you Suzanne! It was a delight having you. Know you & your family enjoyed exploring the treasures of VT. We appreciate the positive feedback. We hope you enjoy exploring the rest of the country with your family. You will always be welcomed back to share 'Serenity'. You did a great job leaving the house spotless. You were a 'dream' guest. THANK YOU!
