About Cherie McKinney

My husband's family owns the McKinney Cabin. The entire family would gather here when our children were growing up.

Cherie McKinney purchased this cabin in 1961

Why Cherie McKinney chose Bodega Bay

Dr. Mckinney and Barbara McKinney had several friends in Davis, CA that had vacation homes in Salmon Creek. They started coming to Bodega Bay in the 50's to enjoy the beach, gather clams, enjoy the crabs and visit with friends.

What makes this cabin unique

Our family loves just enjoying the views out to the ocean, we can sit for hours just looking out the windows. We shop for fresh salmon, live crabs and oysters and often have a barbecue on the deck. We drive to Bodega Head to hike the cliffs and see the surf or just stroll down to Salmon Creek to take in the ocean and birdwatch. Our favorite drive is to over to Occidental to the farmer's market and back over to the coast on Coleman Valley road. The views are breathtaking.

Had an awesome time!

The cottage is walking distance to the beach with great views. There is absolutely nothing negative that I can say. Highly recommended to families or friends [like us].

Thank you, Cherie

Loved It!!

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a lovely few days staying at the McKinney Cabin. The home is perfect with everything one would need. It is perched atop a hill with gorgeous ocean and creek views. The beach is just a few minutes walk away (which I enjoyed each morning). And it is a short drive into town for shops and restaurants. So relaxing and refreshing - I hated to leave! We definitely hope to return soon.

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4 (with kids-11,13) stayed at this lovely cabin in late July. The location was PERFECT for so many activities. The public beach was an easy and enjoyable 5 minute walk, the waves are high and cold but the area where the creek feeds into the ocean is perfect for wading. Even my teen loved "snorkeling" for guppies. This is a great location for easy day trips like the Russian River and the wine country. The house was immaculate with comfortable furniture, a well stocked kitchen, quality linens, good toiletries and a beautiful view. Cherie was easy to work with.

Absolutely perfect!

  • 5 of 5

My mother and I stayed in the cabin for six nights on our annual "girls' trip" this summer. We were immediately wowed by the views from the cabin and the extensive decks all around the property. Although we did adventure out each day (Schoolhouse Beach was a favorite), most of our hours were spent at the cabin cooking, chatting, reading, and watching the water. We got wonderful fish-n-chips from The Fishetarian as well as a lovely fillet of salmon to cook later - highly recommended. Grilling on a deck at the ocean is pretty much a dream come true! At night, the beds were cozy and the cabin was quiet and dark. We loved everything about our experience, and we will be back!

Great Cabin in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

We booked this cabin on late notice when we suddenly were able to get two days off work. Cherie was fantastic to work with despite our last minute request. Everything was handled professionally and logistics were very smooth. The cabin is in a prime location, off highway 1 by several blocks in a very quiet small neighborhood. Road noise was not a problem. Sleeping with the windows open, we could hear the ocean waves all night. The cabin is very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped with full gas stove, microwave, BBQ grill and all the appliances you need. We had no problem cooking some pretty gourmet meals with fresh crab right off the dock. The kitchen cabinets and countertops are a bit dated but totally functional. There is no dishwasher but hand washing dishes is not a problem for us. The queen bed is very comfortable with a view out the windows. The bathroom is a bit dated and small with an older shower and sink but it all is very functional and very clean. There is no soaking tub or hot tub but the ocean is only a short walk away! The living room is the highlight of the cabin with spectacular views out the super large windows. There is satellite/cable TV and wireless internet but we came to the cabin to escape and barely used either. Cell phone service is spotty so if you are on call, make sure you give out the phone number at the house, otherwise enjoy not looking at your phone all the time. Strolls on the beach are a short (< 10 min) walk away. Surf conditions can be dangerous so be careful if you go into the water. The property is as advertised with no surprises. The coast is beautiful in all weather. I'd highly recommend the McKinney Cabin to others. If you enjoy cooking, bring the food you can't live without as the grocery stores nearby are a bit limited. Cherie has a very helpful list of where to get fresh fish and restaurants around the area.

My husband and I were very impressed with the McKinney house. It fit us perfect and we felt we could relax and be ourselves without neighbors looking in. The place was very clean and it was so peaceful and quiet that we could sit back and enjoy the solitude of the ocean and creek views. We loved that you could have a wood burning fire with firewood, kindle and newspaper available....a bonus here.

The bed was the most comfortable we have ever experienced in a VRBO rental and we have been renting for many years now up and down the coast. Most are firm mattresses that are meant to last so you wake up with sore hips, etc. Cherie just purchased the mattress last year and you just sink in without it being too soft.

The binoculars were the best we've ever used in a rental too. My husband couldn't get over how clear they were as you could see people on the beach and distance ocean beyond.

The Deck is the highlight of the place and having the barbee in the back of the house was a bonus, as there are no neighbors and the winds are kept to a minimum. Very Private!!

As other reviewers have said you couldn't ask for anything more in preparing a meal in that kitchen. Fully stocked with dishes, pots and utensils.

The beach and sand dunes were awesome and if you don't want to walk down their with a cooler, the parking lot is just down the street.

Breakfast at The Sandpiper is a treat as other restaurants in Bodega Bay open at 11:00. Also Diekmans grocery in Bodega Bay is our favorite place for supplies and pizza to take back. Try The Birds for lunch in Bodega Bay, sitting outside on their huge deck overlooking the bay is so relaxing and such a treat. Good fried Shrimp also!

Cherie was very easy to deal with which made booking and questions a breeze. The price is very reasonable and I think you get all the comforts of a higher priced rental.
