About Robert (Owner)

I am an artist who travels some over seas. My favorite destination outside the US, is Italy. My family is from Sicily. My wife is also an artist. Together we renovated this lovely cabin.

Robert (Owner) purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Robert (Owner) chose Smoky Mountains

Private setting in the woods, but very close to downtown Hendersonville, NC.

What makes this cabin unique

Everyone who stays at Villa Roma says the cabin has a comfortable lodge feel; a place for pure relaxation. There is an outdoor Jacuzzi on the deck adjacent to the master bedroom and a whirl pool tub in the master bathoom.

Villa Roma Property

  • 5 of 5

Gorgeous cabin with all kinds of unexpected treats such as the waterfall outside and decor that was beautiful I have to also say the Bed in the master BR was extremely comfortable and just sucked me right in so that I did not want to get up!! The house was in good shape and clean, and the huge beds were beautiful with the comforter sets. What made this place unique was the personal decor handpicked and some designed by the owners. Love when there is a personal story...

Challenges & Interruptions

  • 2 of 5

Although the Villa Roma is a charming, artistic, eclectic home...our goal of a quiet weekend get-away was less than charming or quiet. We were awakened by the owner (our first morning, after a very late night) who was requesting that a realtor be able to 'show the house' in a couple of hours; we politely declined. Within a few hours, a stranger made their way down the driveway and straight to the detached garage where our two cars were parked. Attached to the garage is storage building/space with padlocked doors; the stranger was in the locked space before we could call 911...as we had not been warned of any unexpected 'guests'. It turns out the owner allows this neighbor to park their scooter in that space but of course, we had NO idea. Am glad we didn't call 911 and upset the whole neighborhood. By this time, the house was getting irritably warm, sticky, and humid. Thermostat was set at 72 so we lowered it to 70 and went to town to explore for a bit and then drove the short drive to Asheville for more of the same. By the way, charming towns, very safe, good food and music and breweries...When we returned at 11p, the place was 84 degrees and terribly stuffy and humid. We texted the property manager who said the a/c would act up and not work if under 72 AND that it had happened before AND that we had to turn the whole thing off AND open the windows. There are only 2 ceiling fans in this 3 bdrm home, no other fans, there was no outside breeze, and it was unseasonably warm that evening for the foothills. It never cooled down, 3 adults slept on the couches under the fans and one adult (yes, adult) slept in the large master bathtub (I am not kidding). It was the only relief. It may have been far more tolerable with additional fans at the very least. The property manager was politely apologetic and texted the second morning that we could have another day without charge...but we all had 5 hours to drive and no one had the next day off. We happily left at expected 11a departure time. It was my first Home Away experience...sadly. Will not rent here again. Loved the eclectic vibe but not the experience, the unwelcome and unexpected 'visitor', the wake-up call, the lack of a/c. Would have been considerate of owner to clearly identify the a/c problem and that a stranger might just show up unannounced and rummage through the garage. Polite owner & property manager, not a stellar experience at all.

Owner's Response: Sorry for the problem with the ac. We had a tech come out and work on it. Everything is fine now.

The cleaning was not finished when we arrived at 4:00 PM checkin. Lot of money spent on this property, but it just wasn't clean or maintained very well. Washer did not work after they came to work on. Ice and water in refrigerator did not work. Hot tub did not work.

Perfect Easter weekend

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Villa Roma provided a memorable time with our son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. This unusual home with its three bedrooms, three baths, spacious living room, and well appointed kitchen is enhanced by surprising decor and furnishings. There are conversation pieces at every turn. The relative privacy of the location is unusual in a home so convenient to the historic downtown, shopping and restaurants. We were also grateful to be able to have our Shihzu Olivia with us . The owner was welcoming and very patient with our tech and computer challenges. Thank you for hosting our family.

Eclectic, comfortable home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a month and really enjoyed it. The house is full of artistic touches that make it a fun place to stay. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen has some of the best cooking pans and pots. We enjoyed the hottub many times out on the back deck. The house is only .9 mile from downtown and it was an easy walk to a really great downtown area. Three wonderful breweries are here, along with lots of restaurants and bars downtown. We also enjoyed trips to two local wineries, Biltmore Mansion, and Sierra Nevada Brewing. Most places were dog friendly.

Close to downtown but very odd and dark decor.

  • 3 of 5

In one of the showers it was so dark you couldn't close the curtain in order to see. The same shower was very short which made for an uncomfortable shower for my taller husband. Kitchen was nice. Everything was clean. Spacious living room area.

Owner's Response: I don't understand what is odd about the house. Everything in house is beautiful. You can see pictures of house on line and know what to expect when you get there.36 reviews speaks for it self. Some people live in a neutral color world and Villa Roma is full of color and life.If you are looking for normal maybe Holiday Inn would be better.
