About the property

River Front House w/ Dock, 4 Bedrooms +, 2.5 baths +outdoor showe

Book this topnotch river front home for your escape. We think of everything to make your stay a pleasure and are always upgrading. Enjoy the new Weber propane BBQ grill - a full backup tank is always under the deck. Just one mile from Monte Rio, you will find yourself in the heart of good times. Enjoy the comfort and the amenities of home after you play all day, tour the sights or relax by the beautiful river. Pictures can't capture the stunning setting of this home and words fall short.

This area is the finest northern California has to offer. Everything you want is nearby and convenient: breathtaking coastal bluffs, beaches, wineries, distinctive restaurants, unique shops, spas, the river and awesome state parks. Come enjoy! It is an amazing getaway from the city. When available, we offer early check-in or late check-out upon request for no additional fee!

Because the house is thoughtfully designed, well equipped and full of character you will fall in love with this vacation home. Our guests all agree. The well-appointed kitchen has granite counters and all the spices, cookware, wine glasses and matching place settings you need. An open floor plan with beautiful wood floors, exposed wood beam ceilings and glass wall overlooking the river, create a delightful gathering spot.

We provide wireless DSL high speed internet and a house phone. We're close enough to the coast for nature’s moderating effect, yet inland enough to be out of the fog and cold winds when they arise. Our idyllic micro-climate provides moderate temperatures in both summer and winter.

Imagine yourself lounging on the redwood deck, soaking in the hot tub watching life float past on the river or reading a book next to the wood burning stove in the day-lit living room. From your home nestled amongst giant Redwoods on and overlooking the beautiful Russian River, you can meander down to your floating redwood dock & private river access, a favorite fishing spot for Otters, Osprey and Great Blue Herons among other wildlife.

The peaceful Russian River is clear, cool and inviting. A canoe, two kayaks and life-vests are provided for you to explore this natural wonderland. A gorgeous ten-minute drive along the Russian River towards the coast brings you to Jenner and River’s End. You will experience the best of California at the sightseeing attractions, charming towns and beautiful parks close to this ultimate location. In the summer the river is a popular swimming and festival spot for San Franciscans. In the winter the Pacific keeps the climate mild and is popular for whale watching.

This is California's premier wine country with many top vineyard tours in close proximity. You will want to move here once you visit. We'll provide a map of little-known, stunning scenic drives to the coast where you can walk the beaches & coastal bluffs. The landmark Sonoma Coast State Park and Goat Rock are at the mouth of the river. Here you can walk the beach and visit the sea lions that usually lounge where the Russian River meets the Pacific Ocean.

With two decks, outdoor fireplace and hot tub, the house is a great get-away for a couple, and can comfortably accommodate up to five couples. Families with children will enjoy the yard and private river access. The propane outdoor grill, quality cookware, spices, teas and condiments will make the chef in your group happy. The living room has stunning views of the river through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Certificate # 594N

About Chris McCook

I love to travel and moved to California from Philadelphia in 2001. This area has just about everything. There is still so much I haven't done here; it makes it hard to leave.

Chris McCook purchased this house in 2005

Why Chris McCook chose Russian River

I was amazed by the natural beauty here; the redwood trees, the coast, the river, the mountains, and the people.

What makes this house unique

I love hiking and mountain biking on the trails right out the front door or going for a canoe or kayak ride and swim on the river right outside the back door. Of course a fire or the hot tub is great in the evenings and barbecuing on the deck while watching the wildlife on the river is very relaxing.

Great spot on the river

  • 4 of 5

We had a full house- 5 couples- so it was a little squishy for that many people but we enjoyed ourselves none the less. The downstairs bedroom is musty with minimal air flow, especially if you have to sleep in the cubby bed- that was the main downfall. Otherwise it was a cozy, private house with everything we needed- nicely stocked kitchen, great hot tub, and we really enjoyed the kayaks, canoe and SUP.

Owner's Response: So glad our guests enjoyed themselves! I investigated the downstairs musty complaint on July 21, Indeed the mattress in the cubby was the problem, we put it in the sun and sprayed w/ vinegar etc and that worked pretty well. However, I'll be replacing that mattress shortly with a memory foam type since our guests like those mattresses and toppers. There is an 8 foot glass slider that can be left open and an exhaust fan in the bathroom. The central heat normally provides air circulation and can be used as a straight fan but needs to be turned on. In response to this feedback I installed a nice Hepa air circulator and filter for good measure. Also, I found and sealed up air intrusion from an unconditioned space. Between all that and the carpet cleaning I think we have licked that issue. I appreciate this being brought to my attention!

Relaxing river getaway

  • 5 of 5

Dragon's Lair was the perfect spot for a fun, relaxing fourth of July getaway. The house was clean and in good condition - everything was as pictured. Chris was very responsive in the weeks leading up to our trip and was able to answer all questions with ease. We had no trouble getting in to the house or with any of the house instructions. We were also able to bring our dog which was a major plus!

A couple of the bedrooms on the top floor let in a ton of natural light - which is nice as long as you're an early riser! Having access to the river via the private dock was amazing! We used the kayaks and canoe every day. There was ample deck space between the top and bottom decks. The hot tub was in good condition and great to have access to! There were a few basic house hold amenities we did have to restock - toilet paper, paper towels and propane. Overall we were very happy with our stay!

Owner's Response: Sounds like they had a great stay! We love to hear that. Normally there is a spare full propane tank under the deck which is in the instructions but gets missed sometimes. Also normally we leave a new roll of paper towels and bunch of TP rolls.

Gorgeous setting

  • 4 of 5

House was a good size for our family get away. A little steep down to the dock since the winter washed away the backyard. It was nice having the boats here to use. The river was closed down by the state due to ecolie in the water. Overall it was a good experience.....

Owner's Response: The Russian River was not closed by the state. One beach of 10 that are tested weekly was closed for one week to swimmers. The closest beach to us that is tested is Villa Grande and that never closed or tested above safe levels. They were here after the 4th of July weekend when the inundation of visitors to the area and people in the river is a bit much. Fire works are launched above the beach that was closed and for that one day each year It is like Mardi Gras. It has been open since then. Sorry these guests didn't go to the beach that I recommend and the temporary closure affected their stay. I list the Villa Grande beach on our suggestions and recommend it. It is also away from the crowds and you can walk to it from us. In fact it is the deepest swimming hole that I know of on the river, between 30 and 40 feet deep, and just a great spot. I had my landscaper add more steps at the steep part of the access path. Most people should have no issue at this point. So glad our guests had a good experience!
