About June Bartel

In l992 I was on my first vacation to Sooke, saw and walked Gordons Beach and fell in love totally. I knew immediately this was the place for me. It felt so right. Two years later on another visit I found this place, bought it immediately and then went back home to Vancouver to sell, pack, and move. I have never looked back. All my friends describe this spot as 'healing, calming, rejuvenating'. Now retired and still enjoying life and people its time to share this bit of paradise. No matter what season, this is the place.

June Bartel purchased this cottage in 2011

Absolutely wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the little beach house in Sooke. June and Lucy are the most wonderful neighbors! The house is perfect, and it was such a romantic little spot for our yearly anniversary getaway. June has provided everything you could ever possibly need to enjoy your stay. We also loved everything about Sooke - so much to see and do. This was a grand adventure. We would highly recommend this gorgeous little couples retreat on the beach.

Stunning Little Beach House!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful, relaxing 3 day stay at June's Beach house. The house is small but well equiped, and delightfully decorated. There is an outdoor shower (in addition to the one inside) and a glass walled (2 sides for wind protection) area for Bbqing, drinking wine and gazing at the ocean. Binoculars are provided for bird watching and orca spotting. Unlike previous guests we didn't see orcas but saw a number of harbour seals. The beach is rocky and windy and wonderful for walking long distances. When our daughters joined us unexpectedly, June opened up one of her bunkies. Sooo cute!

June's beach cottage was everything we hoped.

  • 5 of 5

We awoke each morning to a beautiful view of the water through the courtyard. We ended each day watching the sunset over the sea in the gazebo. We spent time in the forest nearby and investigating Sooke, but our favorite days were the ones where we stayed put in the cottage, climbing the rocks at the water's edge and lying by the sea. June is a sparkly-eyed hostess who has designed a perfect getaway. She is helpful with advice yet respectful of privacy. Perhaps our best holiday ever.

cozy on the ocean

  • 4 of 5

If you love the ocean, you'll love the little beach house. It was a wonderful "home" for our stay on this amazing coastline. Anything but a sterile hotel room, June has thoughtfully furnished and supplied this cottage. We hope to return soon.

Amazing and beautiful! Very romantic!

  • 5 of 5

This is the most beautiful place we could have hoped for to celebrate our honeymoon!. A stones throw from the beach, so peaceful and serene. Falling asleep to the sound of ocean waves was the best! We will be returning every year on our anniversary! Thank you so much <3

Welcoming retreat next to the sea

  • 5 of 5

The Little Beach House is a fabulous place to stay, and very close to some terrific beaches, hikes and beauty spots in the local area. We stayed for a week and had to leave some of them for next time! The property is well equipped and June's a welcoming host. The 'gazebo' couldn't be closer to the beach for sitting out and wave watching, and we made full use of the barbeque pretty much every night. Sooke itself is very close for supplies and there are some great restaurants and cafes in the vicinity. Highly recommended.
