About the property

Beautiful 'cabin' that sleeps 11 with incredible views of Sunday River Resort

Only a 5 minute drive to Sunday River Resort's South Ridge Lodge, this brand new log sided 'cabin' is located in the very upscale neighborhood of Powder Ridge in Newry, Maine. The entire front of the house is glass and displays three levels of spectacular views of all eight peaks of Sunday River Resort. Completed mid-December 2013, it boasts over 1500 square feet of living space spread out over three floors. This two bedroom, two full bath with a loft vacation rental enjoys a mix of modern facilities combined with antiques and rustic high-end decor. The comforts of home include all brand new amenities such as: WI-FI, two flat screen TV's, Directv cable, DVD player with movies, stereo system with in-ceiling speakers, pillowtop mattresses, two sitting areas facing the mountains (one with a woodstove), a full kitchen complete with dishwasher, refrigerator, oven, microwave, KEURIG Brewing System and two new charming full bathrooms decorated in Rustic Moose and Bear style . It even has a washer and dryer for use by guests.

This is an all year round property to be enjoyed fully in each season. You will find downhill and cross country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, ice skating and tubing in the winter, all within 2 miles of the property. Golfing at the prestigious Sunday River Golf Club is only 5 miles down the road while the Bethel Inn & Country Club course can be found in downtown Bethel, 7 miles in the other direction. Hiking in this area of Western Maine is a real treat with many trailheads located at spots like Grafton and Evans Notch State Parks.

If you are coming to the area for one of the many unique WEDDINGS held every year, why not make it a family vacation and explore all there is to see and do.

Go swimming at the 'S' or Frenchman's, both on the very rural end of Sunday Road, take a chair lift ride to see the unbelievable fall colors, try your hand at The Tough Mountain Challenge or The National Wife Carrying Championship. Or just sit back by the WOODSTOVE in the lower level family room, kick off your shoes, have a glass of wine, pet your dog and watch the stars and the weekly FIREWORKS display.

There truly is something to be enjoyed by everyone!

Have a SMALLER party? Try our sister property, 'The Artist's Studio at Powder Ridge'. It is perfect for a small family or couple and of course, you can bring the family PET!

About Wendy or Gary Polonski

Gary and Wendy Polonski raised their two daughters on the South Shore near Boston and spent 16 years driving up for weekly ski and hiking vacations at Sunday River Resort. Once the girls were off to college, they sold their home in Hingham, MA and made the permanent move to their present home in Newry, Maine. Gary is a trained painter and sculptor and built their sister property, The Artist's Studio, for him to work and display his art. Along the way, they discovered a passion for sharing their slice of heaven with guests through Homeaway.

Wendy or Gary Polonski purchased this house in 2013

Why Wendy or Gary Polonski chose Sunday River

With the wild success of entertaining guests at The Artist's Studio at Powder Ridge, Gary and Wendy decided to purchase the property just below their main home and build a brand new smaller log-sided house to expand their experience. This property boasts the same amazing views and is being rented with their same philosophy of a higher-end rental for an incredibly reasonable price. All while being able to bring the family

What makes this house unique

The 'Cabin' is decorated with many of the same fine details as The Artist's Studio, especially original paintings by Gary Polonski. Much of the furniture has been created and built by Gary and Wendy, being made from trees taken directly off the property. Each piece is one-of-a-kind and uniquely created for each bedroom, loft, living room and dining area. Partnered with beautiful quilts and materials, and Gary's one-of-a-kind original paintings, you will find the decor a treat to your senses.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Wendy & Gary,

What a great get away spot you have created at the cabin. Warm, charming and so convenient to the mountain. You have every detail taken care of from the coffee cake (what a nice gesture - the kids loved it!) to keeping us on track even during the storm outage. Thanks for everything! It could not have been better - we had a blast!

Everything you could want and more!

The view is great and the area has plenty to do for outdoors enthusiasts, but the thoughtful details of this cabin are what make a trip. From the helpful owners, to the yummy baked goods on arrival, to the stocked kitchen and beyond -- this place is sure to please!

Fantastic cabin more than we could have hoped for.

  • 5 of 5

Photos don't do this cabin justice. It was absolutely wonderful. The views from the living room and balcony were stunning, especially with the fall colors. Plenty of places to dine nearby, Mt. Washington an hour and a half away. All if this was great, but we loved the cabin so much we didn't want to leave and when we did, couldn't wait to return.

A comfortable cabin with a great view

  • 4 of 5

Three retired couples stayed here last week while on a fall trip to New England. Cabin was comfortable, owners were responsive and the view was great. The only problem we experienced was having to space out showers due to a limited hot water.

Owner's Response: So sorry you had hot water issues. In four years we have never had a single issue with hot water. We will have the plumber in right away to check on our in-line on demand system.
