About Rosemary

I fell in love with Montana the first time I saw it back in 1978 when my mother, brother and I were visiting a sister who was working in West Yellowstone. The beauty of the land spoke deeply to me so I decided to make Montana my home. That decision, combined with buying the land in 1990 and building a straw bale house there in 1994 have been some of the best decisions of my life.

Rosemary purchased this cabin in 1990

Why Rosemary chose Bitterroot Valley

I purchased the property to build a meditation retreat center, which was the site's initial use for several summers. I chose the location because of the awesome views and the peaceful and healing energy of the land. I built the house with the help of friends and family. It's a very special place to me and to friends who have stayed there over the years and I'm happy to make it available for others to discover its healing magic and peaceful beauty.

What makes this cabin unique

As a lover of the outdoors and wildlife, I appreciate being surrounded by natural beauty at the cabin. Often, I see deer quietly chewing grass, hawks soaring overhead and the most amazing sunsets. The elk herd sometimes passes through the property from the nearby Welcome Creek Wilderness area. I enjoy hiking right from the doorstep, through the forest and meadows. On hot days, I head down to the Bitterroot River to swim or watch birds at the nearby Lee Metcalf bird refuge. The quiet solitude of the place has inspired friends who are artists, musicians and writers to spend time there, creating.

The cabin's remoteness as well as it's close proximity to services in Missoula's city center make it an ideal getaway for any length of time.

Fly fishing in the nearby Bitterroot River, Lee Metcalf Bird Refuge, cross country and downhill skiing is close by.

Loved the unique architecture and custom build of this lovely home...would have loved to have stayed longer to enjoy the scenic beauty of the area. Will go back anytime...would make a great cross-country ski or writer's hideaway.

A great place to make your temporary home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I couldn't be more grateful to Rosemary and her beautiful house! Plenty of room for more than us to and would be excellent for a family or group. Kitchen was well stocked with utensils, cooking ware and a grill out on the porch! Our host Rosemary was always reachable and we had zero issues. Being active campers and the family members of cabin owning residents of the Adirondacks and Catskills in New York stars, we felt like our trip out west wasn't too far from the comfort of home. The property itself is scenic and the top floor had more than enough windows for us to enjoy that mountainous sunrise every morning! A 20 minute drive will bring you into the town (or neighboring town Stevensville) where you can get gas, food, and any other essentials. We'd absolutely stay again and would recommend it to anyone!

Relaxing. Secluded. Beautiful. MUST stay if you're in the area.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our time at this property. Two adults and four kids for a week, and we never felt cramped. The views of the Bitterroot Mtns from the deck (or the couch in the living room) are fantastic. We were there in the middle of June and there was still snow on the peaks. Beautiful! We took at least one walk around the property each day and saw the following animals: deer (mother w/ 2 infants was really cool!), elk, turkey, eagles, rabbits, great horned owls, hummingbirds (not to mention the variety of song birds flying around all day). The place is very homey and comfortable and we loved every minute of our time there. Secluded, private setting but close enough to town for eating out or picking up any supplies. If we're ever in western Montana again (a long trip from NW Georgia) we will definitely try to stay here again.

Clean, has all the necceseties, we had a nice stay.

  • 4 of 5

Clean, has all the necessities to stay for a few days. Good view, out in nature, the walk on path was nice. If you are older the bathtub shower is a little tricky to climb in and out as well as standing as the bottom doesn’t have much of a flat spot to stand. Over all a nice stay, everything worked well and we had a good time.
