INCREDIBLE OCEANFRONT! Free WiFi, King Bed, a/c, Remodeled kitchen, Washer/Dryer

Bedrooms 1
Space 611 sq ft
Property type condo
Minimum Stay 3 - 10 nights

About the property

1 Bedroom condo 30 feet from the ocean. Sleeps 4. Free WiFi, A/C, full kitchen.

Condo D-24 at the Kona Reef is an absolutely oceanfront, 3rd floor, fully furnished, non-smoking, one bedroom condo with a complete kitchen. The lanai (balcony) is located only 30 feet from the ocean. There is terrific tide pooling and exploring in the lava rocks. And if it's sand you want, you need to walk only a few hundred feet to the sandy park next to the condo complex (ocean swimming at the park is for experienced swimmers only.)

D-24 is a recently renovated and fully furnished condo that provides a wonderful place to just sit and relax. From your lanai, watch the surfers during the day and the sunsets at night. You'll also see jet boats, parasailing, and huge cruise ships. During the winter months. you may see whales passing by and it's not unusual to see schools of dolphins. Large turtles are permanent residents in the tide pool area and shoreline.

The Kona Reef is a low-rise oceanfront condo complex located close to the center of Kona. While away from the center of activity, it's an easy 2 block walk from the condo, along the waterfront to shopping and restaurants. Fresh produce, flowers, and macadamia nuts are available at the nearby farmers' market. The Kona Airport is about 8 miles away. Kahalu'u Beach Park, one of the best snorkeling areas in Hawaii, is just a few miles from the condo.

A large oceanfront pool, Jacuzzi, and chaise lounge area makes the Kona Reef a relaxing place to stay. Four gas-fired barbecues provide a great place to cook dinner, which you can eat at the tables and chairs in the barbecue area or take back to your private lanai.

Our condo is fully furnished and stocked with our guests in mind. The bedroom has a brand new king-size bed, tropical furnishings, plenty of storage, and a TV. The newly remodeled kitchen has granite counter tops, a refrigerator with icemaker, a new electric stove, dishwasher and microwave, plenty of cookware (for barbecue or stove), and dishware/silverware for 8. It also has a coffee grinder, a rice cooker, and a blender, as well as a toaster. The living room has comfortable furnishings, including a brand new queen sofa/sleeper. There's a TV with DVD player. A cabinet contains an extensive collection of books, puzzles, and DVDs. You'll also find coolers, a boogie board, and other toys for water play. A sliding glass door covers the full width and height of one wall of the living room. And directly outside that door is the private balcony and the ocean.

Our guests have been delighted with the condo and we think you will be too.

NOTE: If our D-24 condo isn't available for your desired dates or if you'd prefer a first floor condo, please go to VRBO 308090 for information about our Kona Reef D-3 condo.

About Jan

We bought this condo a couple of years ago after owning another condo (D-3) at the Kona Reef for many years. We live in the San Francisco Bay Area and try to come for long visits to our condo a couple of times a year. While there, we usually buy some new furnishings or make some other improvement in the condo as we want our guests to enjoy the space as much as we do. We remember what it was like to rent someone else's condo for our vacation and we try to make sure that all the little things (i.e. beach chairs, coolers, etc.) are available for our guests. We also never forget that a trip to Hawaii is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many of our guests and we want them to be thrilled with the condo they've selected.

Jan purchased this condo in 2011

Why Jan chose Kailua-Kona

We bought this condo a couple of years ago after owning another condo (D-3) at the Kona Reef for many years. We were getting requests for reservations that we couldn't accommodate in D-3 because it was already booked. Now that we have D-24, we are able to accommodate more guests, particularly during the busy times.

After visiting each of the Hawaiian Islands, we found that we enjoyed the Big Island the most. The variety of scenery throughout the Island is amazing and we still love to travel over to Hilo side or to the volcano or north to the beautiful beaches in the Waikaloa area. But we were especially drawn to Kona because of the sunny weather and all the ocean activities. We love to snorkel and swim and we've also done some kayaking in the area.

What makes this condo unique

Despite the many visits to our condos at the Kona Reef, we still are amazed when we arrive, go out on the lanai, and find the ocean right there. We don't feel like we have to do much to have a true vacation at our condo; just relaxing on the lanai or by the pool is vacation enough. One of the reasons we wanted to buy at the Kona Reef is because it's so close to the activity of downtown Kona without being in the middle of the noise. As we're walking the 2-3 blocks downtown, we see the car traffic and people having trouble parking and are so glad we don't have to drive and park, which most visitors to Kona have to do. Another thing we like about the Kona Reef is that we've found the other condo owners and the guests to be especially friendly so we enjoy the general atmosphere. And the condo association is constantly making improvements to the complex so we always feel that everything is being well-maintained.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We truly enjoyed our visit to Kona and the condo was fabulous. We spent hours on the lanai enjoying the sights and sounds of the ocean. We were a bit disappointed that we never saw any sea turtles basking on the rocks as we had read in other reviews. We still loved the place and also fell in love with the Big Island. We will surely be back.

Amazing View - Wonderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our 2-week stay in this lovely Oceanside condo with gorgeous views & sunsets. Very quiet, great place for 50+ and for relaxing with a book or drinks on the balcony - just bring your toothbrush. Pool & grill area is very nice w/plenty of seating. Enclosed free parking is a huge perk and unit is close to town for walking to many shops & restaurants. Appreciated having cooler, beach chairs, umbrella & towels available for our use. Highly recommend this property. Thanks Jan.

Comfort with amazing sunsets

  • 4 of 5

This unit is in the D building of the Kona Reef Resort - perfect location for walking into town for restaurants & shopping but far enough away for peace & quiet. Nice update on the kitchen but the hinges on the lower cupboards need to be adjusted (doors wouldn't close w/o help) and the dishwasher is rather tired. There is seating for only 3, another chair would be nice for entertaining. The king bed mattress should be considered for replacement - it's rather soft and bouncy. Double screen doors for the sliders was nice for ocean breezes (tracks need cleaning or greasing as it was difficult to open the screens). We liked the unit enough that we are renting again next year so nothing we are commenting on is a deal breaker. The most important comment we want to make, though, is that we were there for the incoming ballistic missile text. There was no civil defense information in the unit (back of the door, binder). Also, we couldn't find any instructions how to work the t.v. Other than that very "out of the ordinary" experience which we didn't think we would ever experience in our lifetimes, we enjoyed the unit & its amenities.

Great condo- Great location

  • 4 of 5

Lovely clean condo in the heart of Kona- only about a 10 minute walk to "the strip"...bars, restaurants and

shopping. Lanai is as pictured and almost hangs over the water. We sat out every eve to watch that fabulous sunset. Kitchen is very well equipped and BBQ's close by. Just a few cons... only 3 dining chairs and 3 lanai chairs are supplied even though it is advertised as sleeping 4. Awkward when having company for a meal or drink on the lanai. Also no safe for valuables which means carrying passports & cash everywhere you go.

The rental agent, Adeline, immediately replied to my emails and quickly resolved a TV issue we had..something you don't always find with condo rentals 😊?

All in all, I would recommend this unit to friends Mahalo!

Ocean view, clean and well stocked condo

  • 5 of 5

We loved sitting on the lanai watching life happen. Walking distance to downtown Kona. Best fish tacos near by, Jackie Rey's!! Make sure to open the wooden fish puzzle, it's a wonderful surprise.

The outside of the complex shows its age but inside the unit it's lovingly tended and we'll equipped.

Nice condo but the area wasn’t for me

  • 3 of 5

Stayed here in September for three nights. The condo is nice and the oceanfront view was lovely. However the building itself was kind of grey and depressing. The town of Kailua-Kona is very busy and touristy. Lots of restaurants but they all seemed pretty tacky except for Fosters Kitchen which served up a great meal with great staff. So this place wasn’t to my taste but maybe others would like it.
