Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Sleeps 2 TOT#1096N
The Speakeasy Cottage is located one hour north of San Francisco nestled on a 20 acre private ranch off of Scenic Hwy 12 in Kenwood, CA. Our late Aunt Sally Stanford purchased the ranch in 1961 as a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco. She was San Franciscos's most famous Madame and Sausalito's former Mayor. We named this rental 'Speakeasy Cottage' as a tribute to her illustrious career.
The cottage is located right in the heart of Sonoma County wine country in an area that is well known as the Valley of the Moon.
We are registered with the county and our Transient Occupany Tax Number is # 1096N.

Location was great! The cottage is roomy beautifully decorated. Quite safe so relaxing.
Many great cafe’ s around wonderful choices and yummy. We went to Armstrong Redwood Park and to Ocean in one day. Napa Valley one day. Just s lovely setting and the Owners are AWESOME
Clean, Nice, Well Stocked and Well located
We have stayed at this property three + times now and have always had a pleasant experience. The house is clean and very well stocked. It is well located to nice wineries and restaurants yet very quite. The only reason we did not give five stars is because we like to cook and would prefer a gas grill instead of the charcoal grill. Recommend highly to anyone wanting to stay in Sonoma Valley.
5 stars is not enough!!!!
5 stars is just not enough for the wonderful stay my husband and I just had at the Sally Stanford Ranch. We enjoyed the Speakeasy Cottage, for 11 nights, and were provided every comfort of home, including a beautiful fresh bouquet of flowers, fresh milk and cereal, Half and half for our coffee, gourmet coffee, bottled water and even a gallon of water, which was not necessary as the tap water is crystal clear. Spices, cooking items, butter, condiments, cheese and crackers, a bottle of wine-the list goes on and on. We forgot our toothbrushes, but no worries, toothbrushes, toothpaste, even mouthwash, deodorant, bandaids, English and herbal teas, and a half gallon of orange juice were provided for us! There were an abundance of fresh fluffy towels and necessities, including a day pack, soft robes, and even an umbrella! The courtyard patio was filled with lovely roses, and gardens, and the walk around the ranch was so beautiful with the Mountain Views. We have rented through HomeAway for five years, as we visit our son and his family yearly in Kenwood. This is absolutely the most wonderful rental, and we are making plans to return next year . Judy Thomas gave us such a warm friendly welcome the day we arrived, providing such a lovely experience staying here. The remarkably comfortable bed and luxury bed linens were absolutely heavenly for wonderful sleeping. Thank you Judy and David for sharing this amazing property. We are so glad we found the Sally Stanford Ranch and we are already looking forward to our next visit!

I enjoyed my stay in the Speakeasy cottage on the Sally Stanford Ranch. The property is studded with really old oak trees and deer who kept me company in the morning outside my bedroom window. You have privacy but also the comfort of others nearby in the other houses and cottages on the property. Judy was a wonderful hostess and was available for any questions I had. And you are near wineries, restaurants, Glen Ellen and so much more. I will be back soon!
2nd Stay At Same Location!
Yes, this was my second stay - If you like to travel int he way I mention below, then look no further and book the Speakeasy Cottage ;)
Have no agenda, the cottage is perfect for staying in or going out. Full kitchen so you don't have to eat every meal out, heating and cooling for perfect temps, robes for after a hot shower, outdoor patio for stargazing and grilling, comfortable bed and very quiet for a great night's sleep, PLENTY of room inside the cottage and cozy to stay in and watch a movie, also great internet to work remotely.
The location is just above Sonoma, Glen Ellen and Kenwood, just below Santa Rosa. Right up the road is hiking and running trails and right down the road is Chateau St Jean for an excellent white ;) Book a Sonoma wine tour for a day or head up to Sonoma Lake for breath-taking views. Head over to the ocean, explore the different wine regions, it's all within access to you here. (I do prefer the Sonoma side to the Napa side, I find it a bit more relaxed and less commercialized - but I could be wrong, just my perspective.)
So if this is how you like to travel, book the Speakeasy, you'll love it.
Great cottage in great location!
We could not have loved our stay in the Speakeasy Cottage more! It's a wonderfully kept and well appointed cottage -- spotlessly clean; well stocked; a good size; with a nice enclosed backyard. The owners are very kind and responsive and attended to every small detail/request. It's on a lovely lot - the family ranch - great for walking around and the kids biking out front. The location can't be beat - easy access to all of Sonoma Valley, with wineries and restaurants right nearby. We will definitely be back!
Kenwood is a small agricultural town that has numerous wineries. The property is off of Scenic Highway 12 and faces Hood Mountain , Sugarloaf Mountain and the vineyards to St. Francis Winery. Kenwood is centrally located in Sonoma County and is only 45 minutes to Napa and the pacific coast and 1 hour to San Francisco. The attractions include wine tasting, hiking, mountain biking, coastal excursions, historical sites, wine country train rides, parks, trails, trips to San Francisco, and excellent restaurants.
