Enjoy sitting on the deck listening to birdsongs and watch the deer and other occasional wildlife wandering through. If you enjoy cold river swimming try jumping into the Salmon River's swimming hole from our property.
Sleep in luxury in the queen sized bed with it's ironed Egyptian cotton sheets. The double sofa bed in the living room is not quite so luxurious but children are quite comfy in it.

Information on local restaurants, hiking trails, scenic drives and other activities is available in the nicely furnished cottage. Mt. Hood is the only year around ski and snowboarding area in the country.

Doug is a retired businessman who traveled the world for a living; Barbara a retired editor, retail manager, and Jill-of-all-trades. We both enjoy traveling, staying in foreign countries long enough to see the sights and absorb some of the local culture.
Both of us are very involved in community volunteer work. Barbara is a past president and currently a very active member of the Hoodland Women's club
Jed, our German Shepherd, doesn't let us forget his daily ballgame session or walk. He keeps us company during the day while Doug gardens, pastes together our 1920's era house or works in his shop, and Barbara gardens, writes, prepares feasts or does needlework. We are both avid readers and music lovers.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 1993
Because it is a beautiful piece of land with river frontage and abuts wilderness. We have traveled a fairly large swath of the Earth and think this is one of the most beautiful places we have seen. There are many wilderness hiking trails close by. It also is only an hour's drive from the attractions of Portland in one direction and the Columbia River Gorge in another. Barbara grew up spending summers in a family cottage on the Salmon River near their current dwelling, so she has known the area for more years than she will admit to..
Being secluded at the end of a dead end gravel road, having riverfront acreage with a swimming hole, a place to watch salmon spawning in autumn, a shopping center only five minutes away and a resort just across the river.
This little cabin faces out into the woods. A lovely little trail circles the property. The owners live next door, but you don't even know they are there, as the cabin faces away into forest beauty. The cabin was very clean, well furnished, and reasonably priced. Although you felt like you were deep in the woods, great restaurants were nearby.
We had an absolutely wonderful time. The place is lovely and the owners, Doug and Barbara, are fantastic. Will surely stay here again!
This was an unbelievable find and one I'll be revisiting soon! There are miles of trails right out the door and the immediate large and quiet property is completely fenced. Perfect for me and my lab! The 1 bedroom cabin is completely appointed with equipped kitchen including outstanding coffee and candles. Gas fireplace is toasty and cozy. Owners couldn't be more gently gracious and unimposing. They have maintained the surrounding property to natural oasis perfection. I was in need of quiet solitude, reflection and hikes this fall and it was absolutely perfect. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cabin. Doug and Barbara are wonderful people and made us feel right at home- almost as though we were family. The setting is beautiful- we couldn't have asked for a more tranquil setting. The only thing missing were the dancing bears! :) It was perfect. We will be looking forward to visiting this cabin, and the wonderful people who own it again in the future.
We spent full days golfing, hiking and exploring around Mt. Hood and then returned to the peace and quiet of this comfortable cottage.
Quiet and secluded at the end of a private gravel road, abuts wilderness, property extends to the Salmon River. The small village of Welches has both fine and casual restaurants, a golf course and resort, many beautiful hiking trails, and is about 20 minutes from historic Timberline Lodge located at the 6000 ft. level on Mt. Hood. The views are extraordinary from this historic structure.
