About Denise and Dorene

Austin born sisters, Dorene and Denise have lived in Austin their entire lives. Our family and friends live here and we can not imagine living anywhere else! Austin is one of the hottest spots to visit in the nation. The combination of nature, live bands, and great food (Tex-Mex, barbeque, eclectic)...we just love Austin! We have owned and managed properties for 15 years and enjoy giving people a comfortable beautiful place to live and stay.

Denise and Dorene purchased this house in 2002

Why Denise and Dorene chose Austin

This property was handed down to us from our father. He had the foresight to buy the property in the 1960's and it is very special to us. Our entire family grew up and attended school in this area and many friends remain. We have loved seeing how this area has changed and grown over the years and we can quickly tell you where something 'used to be'.

We have remodeled the entire house and turned it into a South Austin gem. It is in the perfect location since it is conveniently located to downtown, restaurants, entertainment, nature walks, and shopping. Yet, you can still relax and get away from it all by sitting on the back deck with your favorite beverage.

What makes this house unique

The feeling in the house is one of being in a safe place and calmness. From the kitchen, bathroom and back deck you catch glimpses of the high rises of downtown. There is native landscaping and a large fenced in backyard with a three tiered awesome deck. There is also a little 'Hippie Room' just inside the carport. Located in a good location with speedy access to other areas in Austin via highways or major roads.

Adorable & fun bungalow in south Austin.

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay in this S Austin Gem. Great location just off 1st street; Two great restaurants next store Torchy's & Toss pizza & pub. We really enjoyed the pizza & wings at Toss, pretty good cocktails too. Cheap Uber ride to other great restaurants downtown. The house has a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and shower head. The backyard is an oasis where you can see some of downtown. Really cool hippie room in backyard too. I would definitely want to stay here again.

Cool little house with a funky vibe, great location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here during our daughter's visit to Austin. This was such a great location to show her the city from. Close to everything we wanted to see and do! Torchy's next door (literally there is a back gate entrance!) was a big bonus! Thanks Dorene and Denise for such a great stay!

Perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 5 wonderful days here for a family wedding. The house was perfect for us. It is so easy to get to everything. Restaurants, shopping, the parks. Don't miss the Botanical Garden. It is breathtaking. Having Torchy's right next door was absolutely amazing. I think we ate there 5 times! The pizza place, Toss was very good as well. The Parlor Room on Rainey Street had great outdoor music. The house is perfect for 4 people. More than that would get a little cramped, but it is doable. Denise and Doreen were so easy to work with and made our stay so memorable. It was pretty hot and rainy while we were there so we didn't get to use the outdoor space as much as we had hoped. It is a very nice backyard. Beautiful flowers all around and an occasional kitty cat visitor. We just loved it and you will too!

Sweet funky cottage, close to everything

  • 4 of 5

We spent 5 days and really chilled out. The beds were great, the kitchen had everything we needed even a coffee grinder. We loved the back porch and the outdoor side room. Just the place to be on a humid 98 afternoon. Beautiful bed of sunflowers out front. You are right off So 1st but you don't hear the road noise with the windows closed. The owners were very flexible about letting us come a day early when I realized I had screwed up on the dates. Great place from which to explore Austin.

wonderful, charming house, fabulous neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

I stayed for 4 months, my first ever visit to Austin, and this is a wonderful property. The house itself is charming and the back porches are so welcoming. Ceiling fans, on-site laundry, big cable package with high speed, dedicated parking, comfy beds, its just like home. The location on S. First is great - just a mile from the big highway (less than 15 min to airport!) and 1.5 miles in the other direction to downtown. The neighborhood itself is cute and friendly, Dorene very responsive by text or phone whenever something came up. Kitchen super well-provisioned with pots, etc. It was totally perfect for my stay and I miss it already!

Cute little house

  • 3 of 5

I would give this property 3 1/2 stars. When my friend and I had a girls weekend out, we stayed at this cute little home. It had been a wet, cold day, so we tried to get the house heated quickly. We found space heaters that worked very well, but made the mistake of putting two in the living room. We were a bit damp, so wanted warmth quickly. That blew the circuit breaker twice. We realized that it's an old house and it could only take one heater per room which was fine, because the heaters were good ones. Since the weather was so crumby (we had originally planned on shopping up and down South Congress), we decided to hunker down and watch a movie. We spent about 45 minutes trying to get the sound to work on the fancy speaker system. We would have been very happy using the sound on the TV, but couldn't get it to work with a DVD. We called Denise, but she was out of town and her sister was working. Denise is not the expert on the TV system. There are no instructions as to how to work this system. She did tell me that there was another remote besides the two with the TV, in a drawer in the table next to the TV. I don't know how we did it, but we finally got it working by using all 3 remotes. An annoying way to start out the evening.

The mat in the bathtub was particularly groady. When everyone pays a cleaning fee, you'd think a new mat could be purchased once in a while. Otherwise, however, everything was quite clean and comfortable. I think this would be a great place to stay any season except winter, because the backyard seemed to be a very nice area to sit and enjoy some wine in warmer weather.
