Spring Special! Get three nights for the price of two (except holidays and certain weekends) until May 10, 2018. Come to the river and mountains for serenity and quiet; the river is incredibly beautiful and a little wild right now and starting to wake up for spring. Wildlife viewing (deer, elk, bighorn sheep, coyotes, wild turkeys, birds and occasionally the reclusive mountain lion) in The Arkansas Valley is sure to be a delight. The Arkansas River Casitas is the perfect place to stay for a fun vacation or romantic get-away any time of year. There is a modern two-bedroom home that sleeps up to 6 + a separate Casita with a queen bed that sleeps 2 and has its own private detached bathroom. The accommodations are romantic, intimate and beautifully furnished with elegant yet simple decor; you will find everything you need for a relaxing vacation. Situated on 1.25 acres of natural vegetation set somewhat back off a county road, the Casitas are cozy, clean and away from the hustle and bustle of life. Only the sounds of nature and the river can be heard as you relax on the deck, in the house or walk down the path to the river. View the Collegiate and Buffalo Peaks from both decks and sit in the hot tub overlooking the river. Walk down the gentle path to the water and have a picnic on the river bank or fish for the trout that lurk underwater. In summer you can watch rafters and kayakers speed past the house challenging the rapids in front of it. Spring brings a special beauty to the river with longer days to hike or bike and and then get cozy in the hot tub on the back deck as the sun sets and the moon rises.
STARTING IN MAY!
The detached casita which sleeps 2 people with its own private bathroom and porch will be available to be rented only in conjunction with main house for an additional $75 + $15 cleaning fee. The casita has lovely views and its own parking area.
Wildlife is easy to spot on the property as they search for food or venture down to the river to drink in the lingering twilight. Osprey, wild canaries and kingfishers fly past the house as migrations along the river bring species seldom seen in other parts of the valley. Bears and mountain lions lurk in the hills and occasionally are seen near the house. You must be especially careful to close all house and car windows and doors and never leave food or trash where animals large and small can smell and find it. Bears are scary but mice and chipmunks are far worse if they get into the house! Smaller animals will sneak in the smallest opening, door or window and can chew, poop on and scratch anything.
The house will fulfill all your needs and expectations. If you decide to stay home and cook, the kitchen is fully furnished with everything you need to prepare meals from simple to gourmet and there is a gas grill on the deck. Sit outside on the deck or inside at the dining room table with views of the river and mountains right in front of you; better yet, do some start-gazing at night and see the Milky Way and amazing array of magic in the sky that you can't see from brightly-lit cities. Take a nice 1.5 mile walk or bike-ride into town on the county road that goes by the house and into town. The quaint town of Buena Vista with its variety of great restaurants, brew pubs, bars and a whisky distillery, bakeries, ice cream and coffee shops (The Roastery is the best coffee shop in the county). BV has a natural river park and the Barbara Whipple Trail for hikes and biking and also many unique shops, cafes, services only minutes away.
There are two world-class hot springs resorts/spas close by and varied activities in surrounding towns. Bring your own "toys" or rent equipment such as mountain bikes, horses, kayaks, rafts or paddle boards in town. Tours, trips and lessons are available from various outfitters in Buena Vista, Leadville and Salida for any activity you want to try.
This is the perfect place to stay no matter what you decide to do. But here's a warning: You may just want to stay here sitting on the deck and gazing at the gorgeous peaks in the distance while you enjoy the peace and beauty of the river house and soak in the hot tub and not go much farther! No matter the season, Arkansas River Casitas is a very unique, peaceful and romantic property; the house is a gem on the river. The sound of the river is magical all the time and if you happen to wake up in the middle of the night, the melodic river sounds will lull you back to sleep. The hot tub is ready and waiting for you so come visit soon!

About Linda Efird and Mary Giammari
Originally from Baltimore, MD, I fell in love with Colorado on a ski trip here in 1968 and vowed to return to the place where the sky is incredibly blue, the sun shines with warmth at least 300 days a year and the air is clean and fresh. I finally fulfilled my dream and moved to Colorado in 1972 and though I wandered away for awhile, I returned and moved to Buena Vista in 1998. Personal circumstances compelled me to move away from my home on the Arkansas River and its incredible peace and beauty and I don't live here permanently anymore; yet I derive great pleasure in sharing this lovely home with others who are looking for a peaceful and lovely home on the river. I hope you can visit soon!

Why Linda Efird and Mary Giammari chose Buena Vista
The river, peace, privacy and quiet with incredible mountain views make this house a sanctuary. Accessibility to everything you need, clean air, good people and peace are here.
What makes this House unique
Mostly I love to sit on the deck in the hot tub, sleep with the windows open at night and listen to the river. While watching the river flow past, it's easy to lose yourself in its sights and sounds while looking watching various birds and other types of wildlife who call this home. The house sits back off of a county road on 1.25 acres and is only a mile and a half from town where coffee shops, restaurants, galleries, brew pubs, churches and museums are located. The surrounding areas have something for everyone and you can walk or ride your bike into town to have lunch or dinner, peruse shops and galleries, explore the Arkansas River Park and ride back trails to ghost towns, go rafting, fish, hike/climb, go horseback riding and then visit local hot springs. It's endless what you can do here but mostly I, and people who visit, just want to relax. Several ski towns are within a day's drive: Breckenridge-60 mi., Copper Mt.-56 mi., Aspen-(in summer) 44 mi. and a little farther away Vail & Winter Park-121 mi.. Salida, CO is frequently compared to some of the best art towns in the U. S., including Santa Fe, N.M., and it's only 25 miles away. It also has a movie theater and major shopping stores. With all of these activities, you can easily be tempted to roam, explore and enjoy the outstanding areas surrounding this vacation home. However, in the end you may want to just stay home, relax and enjoy this small jewel on the river.

Kevin and I really really care about where we stay on vacation, and we spend a lot of time researching sites on VRBO and others like Tripadvisor. That said, we are happy to encourage anyone considering Arkansas River Casita!
You will find the home warm and welcoming, well appointed and clean, comfortable and tranquil.
It sits high overlooking the river, a delight to the senses whether you are inside or outside. The property is stunning, authentic high elevation desert. We frequently set off on foot across the bridge or along the picturesque trail following the old RR tracks. The canyon rocks and boulders are featured in nearly every photo we took.
I think we took advantage of every nook and cranny in this lovely home...plenty of storage and hooks (great for those of us who don't know the meaning of traveling light!), private spaces to curl up with a book, take a nap, hang out at the rivers edge, or sketch in your art book.
Linda was terrific, as other reviewers have said. We had occasion to meet her midway through our visit, when she helped us put up screens in the bedroom. You will find her to be as delightful as she is efficient.
I will reiterate the statement from the owners regarding the non-suitability of this property for small children. Specifically, the deck. I say this, not as a criticism, only as a reminder to those who may want to overlook the mention in the listing.
We read reviews from people we don't know, with a grain of salt. So should you. But for what it's worth, this place is a keeper.
Sincerely, The Russells, Denver CO
Quiet and romantic, exactly what we were looking for! From the amazing deck with the hot tub, to the private river access, everything was perfect. It was so perfect that I proposed to my now fiancée standing next to the river! Enjoy coffee on the deck in the morning, and the endless sky at night. You can't go wrong with this location.
I’m so happy that you and your fiancée had a great time in my house in BV. I love that you proposed to her down by the river! It is truly a very special place and I hope the happiness you experienced there will stay in your heart forever.
Nice mountain gem
Loved the casita! My husband, son and daughter-in-law and stayed only 2 nights, but we could have easily stayed longer. There are so many pluses. To sum up the location was perfect! You’ll love the proximity to Buena Vista town, to the walking/hiking/biking trails, good restaurants, private back deck natural surroundings to the river and mountain. The only downside was the poor wifi connection, not because we needed to be connected to our electronics, but rather to stream our Lacrosse games during down time. We used up a lot of data. We loved our stay overall. I highly recommend this mountain gem!
Perfect! Location, privacy and view
WE loved loved loved our stay! The location felt secluded, private and romantic! We loved the river access, the nearby access to grocery, dining, hiking without having to plan ahead. We could be completely spontaneous and to our destination in 5-25 minutes. The hot tub at night under the stars with the sound of the river below was priceless. The house is comfortable, the beds were very comfortable, water was hot for showers, and kitchen is well equipped. We would love to come again!
Very cozy. Thanks for having us. Great spot right on the river!
What a Gem!
Our family stayed here for Christmas, and it was so much more than we expected. We hit the sweet spot and it snowed. The stars at night were stunning, hot water for days, hot tub and river amazing and relaxing. The location was just what we were looking for close enough to touristy stuff far enough for something authentic. House was clean and well kept, and the property manager was great even put up a little tree for us. The pictures don't do it justice!
Can't wait to come back
Endless outdoor activities and attractions are close by for year-round enjoyment for beginners to pros. Hiking, mountaineering, road and mountain biking, rafting, kayaking, bird-watching, horseback riding, fly fishing, lake fishing and two incredible hot springs resorts are minutes away. In winter there is snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing and down-hill skiing with several major ski areas close by (Copper Mt.-1 hour, Ski Cooper and Monarch Mt.-35 min.; Vail 1.5 hours away-so you can ski all day and come home to peace and quiet. Art and antiques invite you to stroll through town and visit the many shops and restaurants close by in Buena Vista and Salida.
