Book Now for the Holidays! Get cozy and look at the incredible views from the River House. The mountains are topped with snow and the sky is incredibly blue. Come to the river and mountains for serenity and quiet; the river is peaceful, beautiful and welcoming as it reaches its normal lower flow. As colder weather approaches, wildlife viewing (deer, elk, bighorn sheep, coyotes, wild turkeys, birds and the reclusive mountain lion) in The Arkansas Valley is sure to be an exciting delight. Most days are still perfect weather for fly fishing, hiking and all outdoor activities. Blue blue skies and warmer days for mountain walks and chillier evenings for sitting in the hot tub or in front of a fire. The Arkansas River Casitas is the perfect place to stay for a fun vacation or romantic get-away any time of year. There is a modern two-bedroom home that sleeps up to 6 + a separate Casita with a queen bed that sleeps 2 and has its own private detached bathroom. The accommodations are romantic, intimate and beautifully furnished with elegant yet simple decor; you will find everything you need for a relaxing vacation. Situated on 1.25 acres of natural vegetation set somewhat back off a county road, the Casitas are cozy, clean and away from the hustle and bustle of life. Only the sounds of nature and the river can be heard as you relax on the deck, in the house or walk down the path to the river. View the Collegiate and Buffalo Peaks from both decks and sit in the hot tub overlooking the river. Walk down the gentle path to the water and have a picnic on the river bank or fish for the trout that lurk underwater. In summer you can watch rafters and kayakers speed past the house challenging the rapids in front of it. Autumn brings a special beauty to the river with perfect days to hike or bike and then get cozy in the hot tub on the back deck as the sun sets and the moon rises. Winter is truly special as ice starts to form on the river and mountain tops are covered in snow. Sometimes you may be fortunate enough to sit in the hot tub during a light snow and feel the snowflakes gently land on your warm skin-magical!
The detached casita which sleeps 2 people with its own private bathroom and porch is available to be rented only in conjunction with the main house for an additional $75 + $15 cleaning fee. This casita has lovely views and its own parking area and is really nice if your group includes extra people who like privacy with their comfort. There is a queen bed, seating area with table and a private outdoor patio.
Wildlife is easy to spot on the property as they search for food or venture down to the river to drink from it in the lingering twilight. Osprey, wild canaries and kingfishers fly past the house as migrations along the river bring species seldom seen in other parts of the valley. Bears and mountain lions lurk in the hills and occasionally are seen near the house. You must be especially careful to close all house and car windows and doors and never leave food or trash where animals large and small can smell and find it. Bears are scary but mice and chipmunks are far worse if they get into the house! Smaller animals will sneak in the smallest opening, door or window and can chew, poop on and scratch anything.
The house will fulfill all your needs and expectations. If you decide to stay home and cook, the kitchen is fully furnished with everything you need to prepare meals from simple to gourmet and there is a gas grill on the deck. Sit outside on the deck or inside at the dining room table with views of the river and mountains right in front of you; better yet, do some start-gazing at night and see the Milky Way and amazing array of magic in the sky that you can't see from brightly-lit cities. Take a nice 1.5 mile walk or bike-ride into town on the county road that goes by the house and into town. The quaint town of Buena Vista with its variety of great restaurants, brew pubs, bars and a whisky distillery, bakeries, ice cream and coffee shops (The Roastery is the best coffee shop in the county). BV has a natural river park and the Barbara Whipple Trail for hikes and biking and also many unique shops, cafes, services only minutes away.
There are two world-class hot springs resorts/spas close by and varied activities in surrounding towns. Bring your own "toys" or rent equipment such as mountain bikes, horses, kayaks, rafts or paddle boards in town. Tours, trips and lessons are available from various outfitters in Buena Vista, Leadville and Salida for any activity you want to try.
This is the perfect place to stay no matter what you decide to do. But here's a warning: You may just want to stay here sitting on the deck and gazing at the gorgeous peaks in the distance while you enjoy the peace and beauty of the river house and soak in the hot tub and not go much farther! No matter the season, Arkansas River Casitas is a very unique, peaceful and romantic property; the house is a gem on the river. The sound of the river is magical all the time and if you happen to wake up in the middle of the night, the melodic river sounds will lull you back to sleep. The hot tub is ready and waiting for you so come visit soon!
