View the mountains from the decks and hot tub on the river. Walk down the gentle path to the water and have a picnic on the river bank or fish for the trout that rise for spring hatches. Book now for June through October as these dates are popular and fill up quickly. It's the perfect place to be with many incredible activities in the Arkansas Valley. Call the property manager, Linda, at the number provided for a CORRECT and CURRENT rate quote and accurate availability.

The bluest skies you'll ever see and incredibly comfortable weather with warm sunny days and cool nights invite you to relax and slow down. The sun is bright and the air is cool, so you feel perfect all the time. Spring and summer are great times to enjoy all the exciting outdoor activities available in the Arkansas Valley. Hiking, biking, fishing, climbing, horseback riding and more are available with expert guides and outfitters available to ensure you get the best experience possible. Rafting companies are into full gear and the Arkansas River is spectacular this year as spring runoff continues to swell the river and create the white water and rapids for which the Ark is known.

This river house get-away is a 1.25-acre property that offers a very private river-front experience for you and the wildlife that visit frequently. It's private yet you have the convenience of being close to the town of Buena Vista which is only 1.5 miles away on a country road that is perfect for walking or biking into town or to various bike and hiking trails.

Enjoy the outdoors and town but he best part awaits you at home where you can soak in the very private sunken hot tub on the deck above the river from early morning sunrise to late at night under the stars; it's an experience you won't forget! Watching the stars while listening to the river is a soothing and gentle way to prepare for a good night's sleep. You will not want to leave the beauty, peace and quiet of the river.

The Arkansas River is one of the most popular rivers in the U. S. and activities in the surrounding towns of Leadville, Buena Vista and Salida are exciting for everyone and full of good food and drink, shopping, music festivals, art shows and fiestas. Extensive off-road trails are within easy distance from the property in any direction and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) public lands border it across the river.

This is the perfect place to stay for a fun vacation or romantic get-away any time of year! The house is comfortable and intimate with all the comforts of home. It has views of the stunning Collegiate Peaks Mountain beauty and beckons you to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature and experience the adventure of the outdoors. Think about hiking under a full moon or climbing a fourteener. This is the perfect place to start your day no matter what you decide to do. But here's a warning: you may just want to sit on the deck and gaze at the gorgeous peaks in the distance while you enjoy the peace and beauty of the river house and soak in the hot tub.

The house will fulfill all your needs and expectations. If you decide to stay home and cook, the kitchen is fully furnished with everything you need to make all meals from simple to gourmet and there is a gas grill on the deck. Watch the river flow by as you sit inside at the dining room table with views of the river and mountains right in front of you. Sit outside in the sun and enjoy the incredible views from the decks or better yet, do some start-gazing and see the amazing array of magic in the sky that you can't see from brightly-lit cities. Many unique birds fly along the river and you can frequently see hawks, osprey, wild canaries and kingfishers. Migrations along the river bring species seldom seen in other parts of the valley. Take a nice 1.5 mile walk or bike-ride into town on the country road that goes by the house and then return to relax in the hot tub before going to sleep to the sounds of the river.

Views of the Collegiate Peaks are pristine and spectacular; wildlife is easy to spot as the deer, coyotes, fox, elk and hawks search for food in the lingering twilight or venture down to the river to drink. Bears and mountain lions lurk in the hills and occasionally are seen near the house. You must be especially careful to close all house and car windows and doors and never leave food or trash where animals large and small can smell and find it. Bears are scary but mice and chipmunks are worse if they get in the house! Bears may still be filling up now for the winter hibernation and love trash and garbage. They will seek out and eat anything in their path along the river! So you must be especially careful to close all windows and doors. Smaller animals will sneak in the smallest door or window opening and can chew, poop on and scratch anything.

The quaint town of Buena Vista has a variety of great restaurants, brew pubs, whisky distillery, bakeries, coffee shops and ice cream shops, there are also two local world-class hot springs resorts/spas that are incredible at any time of year and are especially nice now without the crowds of summer. You can access the natural hot springs that flow in the river at the Mt. Princeton Resort, swim in the warm pools, get a massage or hang out on the decks. Cottonwood Hot Springs are smaller and more private with several pools from which to choose. But why go there when you can have your own hot tub right outside the door on your private deck!

Arkansas River Casitas are located 1.5 miles north of downtown BV and 25 miles from Salida to the south and Leadville to the north. The climate is usually a little drier and warmer here by the river then it is as you climb higher to the 14,000 foot peaks of the Collegiate and Buffalo Peak Mountains which you can view from the house. Nights are always cool and comfortable and air conditioning is not needed.

Bring your own "toys" or rent a variety of equipment in town such as mountain bikes, horses, kayaks, rafts or paddle boards. Tours, trips and lessons are all available from various outfitters in Buena Vista, Leadville and Salida for any activity you want to try. There is an extensive system of trails in the area or you can walk or bike to The Roastery, the best coffee shop in the county which is a mile and a half right down the road. Walk or bike to the river park and the Barbara Whipple Trail, peruse shops, enjoy bars and restaurants by taking the county road 1.5 miles into town. In town, the Barbara Whipple Trail leads into a vast system of endless trails and is usually accessible all year.

Whether you want to be energetic and participate in activities or just relax, the choice is yours as every opportunity exists close to this property.

Come to the mountains for serenity and quiet; the river is incredibly beautiful and a little wild right now and wildlife viewing (deer, elk, bighorn sheep, coyotes, wild turkeys, occasionally the reclusive mountain lion) is always a delight. We're located in a snow/rain shadow of the 14,000-foot high Collegiate Peak mountains which surround the Arkansas Valley.

Stunning open vistas of the mountains and sky make the landscape breathtakingly beautiful and the house is situated in a rural setting off the road and private. There are plenty of opportunities for urban exploring in Buena Vista and strolling Main Street or in the new urban neighborhood of South Main where eating, drinking coffee or wine and leisurely checking out shops and galleries are welcome diversions. Sometimes, it's fun to take short day trips to other towns. Independence Pass is open in June to the end of October and you can drive to Aspen for the day. Quaint Frisco and Ski Breckenridge are close enough for day trips and the big outlet malls in Silverthorn are big temptations.

No matter the season, Arkansas River Casitas is a very unique, peaceful and romantic property; the house is a gem on the river! The hot tub is ready and waiting for you to sit on the private multi-level deck and watch the river go by (clothing is optional). The sound of the river is magical all the time and if you happen to wake up in the middle of the night, the melodic river sounds will lull you back to sleep. This modern two-bedroom home is romantic, intimate and beautifully furnished with elegant yet simple decor. Cozy and clean, it has everything you need for the perfect vacation.

About Linda Efird and Mary Giammari

Originally from Baltimore, MD, I fell in love with Colorado on a ski trip here in 1968 and vowed to return to the place where the sky is incredibly blue, the sun shines with warmth at least 300 days a year and the air is clean and fresh. I finally fulfilled my dream and moved to Colorado in 1972 and though I wandered away for awhile, I returned and moved to Buena Vista in 1998. Personal circumstances compelled me to move away from my home on the Arkansas River and its incredible peace and beauty and I don't live here permanently anymore; yet I derive great pleasure in sharing this lovely home with others who are looking for a peaceful and lovely home on the river. I hope you can visit soon!

Linda Efird and Mary Giammari purchased this house in 1998

Why Linda Efird and Mary Giammari chose South Central

The river, peace, privacy and quiet with incredible mountain views make this house a sanctuary. Accessibility to everything you need, clean air, good people and peace are here.

What makes this house unique

Mostly I love to sit on the deck in the hot tub, sleep with the windows open at night and listen to the river. While watching the river flow past, it's easy to lose yourself in its sights and sounds while looking watching various birds and other types of wildlife who call this home. The house sits back off of a county road on 1.25 acres and is only a mile and a half from town where coffee shops, restaurants, galleries, brew pubs, churches and museums are located. The surrounding areas have something for everyone and you can walk or ride your bike into town to have lunch or dinner, peruse shops and galleries, explore the Arkansas River Park and ride back trails to ghost towns, go rafting, fish, hike/climb, go horseback riding and then visit local hot springs. It's endless what you can do here but mostly I, and people who visit, just want to relax.

Several ski towns are within a day's drive: Breckenridge-60 mi., Copper Mt.-56 mi., Aspen-(in summer) 44 mi. and a little farther away Vail & Winter Park-121 mi.. Salida, CO is frequently compared to some of the best art towns in the U. S., including Santa Fe, N.M., and it's only 25 miles away. It also has a movie theater and major shopping stores.

With all of these activities, you can easily be tempted to roam, explore and enjoy the outstanding areas surrounding this vacation home. However, in the end you may want to just stay home, relax and enjoy this small jewel on the river.

Relaxation on the River

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here late September as part of a fall leaf trip. This was in the middle of a 10 day trip and was a much needed rest and relaxation stop. The house is well designed and was very comfortable for two. The views and path to the river great and the hot tub on the deck so relaxing.

Excellent Location!

  • 5 of 5

Spent the weekend here with a friend. Could not have asked for a better house to stay in. The proximity of the river and the back deck really make this place special. Close to town but yet just far enough away to disconnect. Endless activities whether it winter or summer are easily accessible. Definitely a place I hope to visit again.

Awesome family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Our family (2 adults, 2 teenagers) spent 5 days/nights at the Arkansas River Casita and we absolutely loved it. The space was perfect for the 4 of us, the big deck with hot tub overlooking the river was incredible and so awesome to star gaze in at night, and the location was fantastic. When you drive up to the house, you can't tell from the outside how perfect and comfortable it is on the inside. It was one of the best family vacations we've ever had and we would for sure stay at the Casita again if we decide to do another Buena Vista/Salida vacation. Each night, after river rafting, fishing, horseback riding, etc. we would return to the Casita for dinner and hanging out on the deck and hot tub. Again, the perfect getaway and the perfect family vacation.

Great little romantic getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The scenery and animal life was amazing in the area. The sound of the river lulls you to sleep and the home has all the amenities. Enjoy a soak in the tub on the private deck while taking in the breathtaking views of the river and the mountains on the other side. The house is cozy and warm, with everything you need but your food. In town you can enjoy delicious local cuisine, a great waterfront park with hiking trails, dog park, playground, skate park, and more. We'll definitely be back!

Wonderful in every way!

  • 5 of 5

I'm writing this review because we were just there last month and I'm already trying to see when we can return. This cottage is private, funky, comfortable and extremely relaxing. The sound of the river literally washes away all of your stress. The massive rock formations that border the river in the back of the home are really stunning! Next time we will be bring our bikes and ride into the downtown area on a nice close. The mountain views from the porch on the front of the house will take your breath away every time. The deck and hot tub make this place even more perfect. I'm thankful we are in driving distance to this little gem in BV! Thank you for sharing your property:).
