Amazing Jewel in the City, With Garden And Charm
A perfect blend of yin and yang, masculine and feminine; a sunny, simple, sweet, completely uncluttered, cozy and quiet unit. Empty closets and chests for short term storage and full bath with tub. Two sided desk, with cable, wifi, Apple TV, HBO, garden views, super clean with plenty of charm. Our thirty one day or more stays are perfect for families of locals, scholars, writers, snow birds, transitioning residents, sabbatical, etc and those who know how to bide their time.
The masterpiece is the Tuscan inspired garden with over 500 flower blooming plants ranging from bougainvillea to sage, lavender, hydrangea and roses and nearly 2500 sq. feet of park-like garden. Perfect for having garden company with local friends or family and then to retire to your own unit. Close enough to downtown to make it easy to walk, far enough away to give a sense of peace; a veritable walker's paradise! Although not a Patrician address, it is a well nurtured, charming property created as a sanctuary and appointed with taste and care.
The garden is yours to explore and enjoy, although the large table is wonderful, a smaller table is around the corner on a path to the left for more intimate moments. Pick some thyme, sage or rosemary for cooking!
Wonderful coffee shops (Funnel Mill, Starbucks, and 18th st. Cafe), health food store (Co-op), Whole Foods, Vons, all just blocks from unit. Also just blocks from Tiffany's and Santa Monica Place, Third St. Promenade, Montana Avenue, yoga studios, movie theaters, and many of the best restaurants on the west side of Los Angeles, (Melisse, Jiraffe, Capo, Michaels, La Botte) as well as less expensive choices, (Fritto Misto, Mercado, Border Grill, Huckleberry's, Rustic Canyon). Just moments to the Broad Stage for cultural events and 5 blocks from 3 Vons markets and of course, blocks from the world famous Santa Monica pier, Palisades Park, the Pacific Ocean and Ocean Avenue, and Main Street for more upscale shopping. Close to Venice, Pacific Palisades, 25 minutes drive from Los Angeles airport, (LAX), a gateway to Malibu (20 minutes), downtown Los Angeles (25 minutes).
A private parking space as well or just walk or bike everywhere! Fit guests won't need a car! This unit is part of a duplex at the back of a courtyard garden property.

Monthly rentals must pay utilities, electric and gas after $20 for each utility. Also we get our guests started with paper products and items such as shampoo, soap, garbage bags, etc but after that the guests must replenish. We can also introduce you to a trusted maid service but we do not offer it directly ourselves. A quick clean is $50; more entailed cleaning (no laundry of personal items) $85. Extra person $20 a day.

Car: Not Necessary
I am not a big mall kind of person but Santa Monica Place has a wonderful and elegant food court market place on the top floor, unlike any I have seen. There are wonderful morning, lunch as well as dinner places up there. Even al fresco dining surrounded with olive trees at Sonoma Wine Garden. I love the beach at the restaurant called 'Back at the Beach' cafe, on the sand just a little down PCH, because I like the services there when you need them, if you're planning on a day at the beach. Besides that there is Will Rogers beach and the #10 life guard station is a great place to swim and check out the wild sea life and not far up the coast. Great hiking all around our Santa Monica Mountains. Shutters Hotel is a great place to have a drink or listen to some piano music. Casa del Mar right next door to Shutters is a great place to eat sushi and have a drink, both world class hotels right on the water. Walking to the pier in the summer and enjoying the free summer Thursday night concerts, bringing a picnic and some hidden wine and sitting on the sand is a lovely evening. For the ambitious ride up the boardwalk on bikes to Venice or for the really, crazy ambitious down to Hermosa Beach or up to Malibu; that's a full day of sunshine and exercise! There are cultural events at the Broad Stage, and movies, and yoga or just take a beach walk or a stroll on Palisades Park. Plenty to do as well as to use it as a base for all kinds of short trips (San Francisco, Vegas, San Diego) all good and possible for one hour or less flights and an overnight stay and back the next day). There are all the other places to check out; The Disney Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, Universal Studios, Disneyland, etc but those are day trips and for the most part in areas you want to leave at night. Beverly Hills, as the crow flies is quite close and an easy jaunt if you avoid traffic hours. Don't forget the Getty Museaum, close to Santa Monica, and the Getty Villa, a must! About the owner: We have lived in Santa Monica for several decades and certainly consider it home. It's a lovely place to live, close by the sea and in one of the least densely populated areas of Southern California, and the beach is a cooler place to live in the summer than our valley neighbors. While I handle our rentals, design, and paperwork, my husband is the construction and technical brain in the nuts and bolts department. Looking forward to meeting new people through this rental process!
Why the Owner Chose Downtown, Santa Monica, CA, USA:
Our property is a few short blocks from downtown Santa Monica; close to a great health food store, (the Co-op), Tiffany's (!) and Santa Monica place, yoga studios, restaurants, markets, the library and great coffee shops. In a few years the new metro will be a ten minute or so walk from where we are and over all it's a place one can find excitement, happiness and tranquility, all rolled up in one. Walking, bike riding, rollerblading; all options for getting around and all in an area that has so much to offer so close by! Inspired by my travels to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and Europe, we created our beautiful garden to reflect a place of beauty and peace and are excited to share it with travelers.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
This property brings to mind the historic nature of the City of Santa Monica. The cottage on the property was built around the turn of the century as a beach cottage. (1900's) Per the City of Santa Monica we can only rent for 31 days or longer. At one time it was surrounded by groves and open space and had a clear view to the ocean (an elderly neighbor tells us). Over the century the other structures were built and as my husband is a builder we've been able to put a lot of love and attention into this private property that we love. This unit is our personal unit and has finishes that reflect that; modern upgrades. Also, it's an urban location with an un-urban tranquility. Close to some of the less corporate small businesses (Funnel Mill coffee shop, the Co-op Health Food Store, Bay Cities Deli, Yoga studios too numerous to list, Montana Avenue boutiques & dept. store, Real Food Daily - all blocks away) yet blocks from Tiffany's, Coach, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom's as well. Did I mention close to the beach and the pier? ; )
