The good, the bad and the ugly...

  • 1 of 5

The good…the owner was very pleasant; the lake view from the cottage was wonderful, access for launching and mooring our boat was great and the bed was comfortable.

The bad…the cottage had an old musty smell; should have been our first warning. It was in the 50’s outside when we arrived and it was cold in the cabin because the owner didn’t turn the heat on. On colder evenings we love to build fires in the fireplace, thus renting a property with a wood burning fireplace. But, the owner said it didn’t work properly. We could try it but the house would probably fill with smoke because it doesn’t draft properly. Ugh!

The ugly…we rented many homes, this cottage is by far the dirtiest we have EVER rented and I have plenty of pictures to prove it! Dirty pans, dishes and utensils in the cupboards, cob webs and spiders everywhere, dead bugs in the bathroom, dust and just plain filth was evident throughout the cabin.

We were expecting a quaint older cabin. I’m not sure what happened between the time we stayed and other reviews but clean is not a word we would use to describe this property. The owner needs to hire a cleaning service between uses. The condition totally affected our vacation and we decided to leave early. Looking back we should have just left when we walked in but it took us four hours to get there and we didn’t really know how bad it was until we unpacked and looked around. Older in my mind does not mean smelly and filthy. What a major disappointment.

Owner's Response: One can't please everyone and since no other complaints have been received concerning the cleanliness , a number of renters come back year after year, I am sorry to hear of this renters observations. As to the fire place - all renters are advised that the fire place will smoke a bit especially when the temperature differences inside vs out are not far apart. All renters are given the option to use the fireplace but are warned of possible smoke (not filling the cabin) but so they don't think the place is on fire. It is a a reasonable thing to inform renters. Most people are here in the summer and an outside fire is preferable. Anyone wishing to inspect the cabin prior to renting is welcome but it is a cabin, in the woods and is cleaned between renters. Food on pans may have occured as all utensils are not inspected - I will attend to this detail.

Get away from the city and just relax.

  • 5 of 5

We've had a fantastic time at this cabin at the start of July. While this time is still a bit on the cooler side, it was an incredible relief to get out of the searing temperatures of the city. The cabin itself sits in a wooded area with many tall trees, and plenty of space to other houses. The lake is right down a few steps via a stone path from the porch, and you have your own small dock to swim off of. The lake itself is massive, and the view both from the porch or down by the water is fantastic.

Bob was an excellent host that was extremely helpful and a veritable trove of knowledge about the area. It's rare to see that sort of thing these days.

There's enough activities and sights to see for those that are into that sort of a thing, but this is also a perfect place to just laze about and enjoy the peace and quiet. Bring a camera for all the critters that come by - I managed to photograph deer, squirrels, chipmunks, ducks, and even a red tailed hawk!

Secluded and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I chose Lake Wallenpaupack up in the Pocono Mountains to spend our 30 year anniversary. Upon arriving at the cabin, we were greeted by the owner and very comfortably welcomed. Mr. Ammon was very knowledgeable about the lake and we seeded deep in it's history.

The cabin was roomy, clean and had all the comforts of home. The view of the lake from the back desk was awesome.

If you are looking for a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of fast paced life and seclude yourself for a few days in Pennsylvania's beauty, look no more.

Our Heavenly Getaway!!!!

  • 5 of 5

This summer not only did we stay one week as planned but returned a month later to stay for another week!! The beautiful views from the back deck are captivating!!! My 2 children and my sister's 4 children ranging from ages 6 months to 11 years were continuously busy whether we were taking nature walks, feeding the ducks, swimming in our own private area, riding bikes or fishing off the dock!! We will DEFINATELY be returning next summer to "Bob's House" !!!

Cabin by the lake

  • 5 of 5

This was my first time staying here. I had a great time!!! The house was clean with plenty of room for the six of us. It’s in a very quiet setting and if you have a boat a very short walk down to the dock..

I would stay here again.
