Light & airy- windows everywhere, wood floors, & high ceilings! Enjoy gentle breezes, bubbling creeks, & bright stars while relaxing on the porch swing.

Come visit Stardust Cottage when you're ready to relax and enjoy your time in the mountains! Just updated with you in mind. The kitchen is stocked with quality cookware.

Escape from your television, but enjoy streaming shows on your computer. Our wifi will keep you connected if you desire.

Babies and Kids Count! We welcome children with toys and games for all ages. We have a pack-n-play, high chair, baby gate, and kid's dinner ware. We appreciate honest guest counts, regardless of guest ages.

Outside amenities include a bubbling creek, and plenty of room to run, keeping children busy for hours! Chill out in our shady hammock. Relax on our covered porch in one of our rocking chairs or on our porch swing while you take in the mountain views. Enjoy the flowers in our garden, or pick herbs for your dinner. Roast marshmallows at our fire pit. If you are here during the cooler fall months, enjoy a cozy fire in the woodstove (we have gas heat, as well). You'll have access to miles of hiking trails right outside our door. Admire a sky full of stars at night, and then fall asleep with the gentle mountain breeze and the sound of the creeks outside.

Quiet and private, our neighbors are not visible or close to the house. You'll need a car- Stardust Cottage is nestled 'back in the holler'!

We may greet you at your arrival, see you off when checking out as we arrive to prepare the cottage for the next guests, or -rarely- during your stay if anything needs attention. Mostly we will leave you to enjoy the peace and privacy we love about this property. We live in Asheville and can assist you by email, phone or in person, if needed. Welcome to the Appalachian mountains!

About Owner/ Property Manager

Hi! We love meeting new people and trying new things- especially food and travel. We've lived in the Asheville area since our college years, and have two great kids. Western North Carolina is very community-minded and we like to get involved in helping make our wonderful place to live even better. Our family enjoys hiking the trails and cooling off in the streams in the summer, and then catching the incredible vistas on the way home.

Owner/ Property Manager purchased this house in 2002

Why Owner/ Property Manager chose Leicester

We bought this place as our primary residence and lived here for eleven years. We loved it from the minute we saw it and still do! Big Sandy Mush Valley is the best preserved farming valley in the southern Appalachians. Thousands of acres of conservation lands are adjacent to the property, organic farms are abundant here.

What makes this house unique

Stardust Cottage is private and relaxing in a gorgeous natural setting.

It's modern and comfortable, with soft sheets and down comforters

You can get to Asheville for city fun, but no need to!

Awesome!

  • 5 of 5

We've rented quite a few properties through HomeAway and I've a;ways been happy but this was the best. It was a lovely and comfortable with everything you need! The kitchen had every tool. And the owners left great tips and brochures for the area. Very helpful. The games in the basement were great. The deck was beautiful. We had so much fun in Asheville and the mountains on North Carolina are beautiful.

This Home was a perfect getaway. Tucked away in the mountains, but easy to get to and from the city.

Perfect!!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Starlite Cottage!! Everything is as pictured, if not better. It is such a comfortable home!!! Having one bathroom was daunting at first, but we did just fine with it!! We barely noticed that there wasn’t a TV., and we had so much fun playing ping pong & foosball!!

It’s true that the road to the house is windy and the location is remote, but that’s what we were looking for!!

A few highlights from our weekend, each as awesome as the other...

King’s Mountain National Military Park ~ en route from Charlotte to Asheville.

Biltmore Estate ~ not to be missed.

Turkey Creek Cafe ~ right in Leicester. Rustic but awesome breakfast. Super nice people.

Max Patch (hike) ~ a bit of a crazy, but so fun drive. Easy walk to the summit, if take the path to the left. Gorgeous on top.

LaZoom Comedy Bus Tour ~ was just so fun for our whole family.

Omni Grove Park Inn ~ beautiful resort. Great dining options with views of the sunset. Take care to time accordingly.

Cannot say enough about what a great time we had! Thank you!!

Beautiful Mountain Cabin

  • 5 of 5

This was a great vacation for my family and I on a beautiful property not far from Asheville. The house is well positioned on the site with large windows in the living/dining room that overlooks the property. The cabin has all the features one needs to be completely comfortable. Our only disappointment was when we had to pack up and leave. Kama is very responsive and made the booking easy peasy.

Amazing

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was everything we dreamed of for our vacation. Adorable, cozy, modern cottage on the perfect property. A private, secluded feel although neighbors are present within walking distance for a sense of security. I wish I could live in this cottage forever! The porch was perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee and listening to the flowing stream and neighbor's rooster. Our poodles accompanied us on our trip and enjoyed sitting on the porch with us listening to the sights and smelling the air. The stars at night were beautiful. We left the cottage each day to go hiking but if I could have added another few days to our trip we would have spent the extra time on the property just relaxing. It took us exactly 30 minutes to get to downtown Asheville.

During our stay, we hiked at DuPont National Forest, North Carolina Arboretum, Appalachian Trail at Roan Mountain, Deep Gap Trail at Mount Mitchell, and Max Patch. We also visited the Biltmore and went to dinner in downtown Asheville each night. Each of the places we went to hike were between 1 and 2 hours away.

We had planned to visit Colorado next year for our next vacation but I think we may be returning here instead. It's just too perfect. And..being back home in the suburbs feels a bit jarring after our peaceful week at Stardust Cottage.

Asheville is a sophisticated small city in a mountain valley in the southeastern United States. It's a very popular and well known tourist area. The city is very walkable with shops, galleries, and restaurants on every corner. Asheville is know for its foodie culture, including lots of vegetarian choices. The varied nightlife scene and many cultural activities and festivals will keep you busy if you like. The area is also known for its many artists and crafts people. Just south of downtown is the Biltmore House; the largest private residence in the USA. The house and its thousands of acres are open to the public. The Blue Ridge parkway also passes through the area. This is an incredibly scenic drive through the national forests in the area, with world class views, and many interesting stops along the way for hiking, picnicking, looking at waterfalls, or frolicking in the cool mountain streams.

Endless opportunities abound for rafting, rock climbing, and backwoods adventures if outdoors is your thing. There are two ski resorts, each about one hour from Stardust Cottage. Golf is also popular in the area. You can choose to be in the middle of the action, and then out in the middle of nowhere 15 min later!

Closer to Stardust cottage are several organic farms, including flowers and a nationally known herb farm. Potters and crafts people live tucked in their beautiful corner of Sandymush Valley.

Don't let our long backwoods private gravel drive fool you... a beautiful modern well appointed cottage awaits at the end!
