Overview

About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-9)

Our house is a vintage beach cottage on a quiet and quaint street at the very southern end of Wrightsville Beach. This house was built by Bryan's grandfather in the 1960's and has been a gathering place for the family over the generations. We hope that you will find it a charming place to relax and unwind. Sunsets over the sound and sunrises over the ocean are offered at no extra charge!

Mid-century is very popular now and we love that! We're mid-century too. Our cottage is truly mid-century vintage. The kitchen is lovely with an old gas stove and original vintage blue formica counters. The old wood paneling glows warmly in the afternoon sun. All the floors are hardwood. The whole house is second story and the houses on three sides are only one story so there's a royal view out of every window. We've had fun furnishing the house like it's 1960 all over again.

The house is clean and dry with lots of natural light. The bathrooms and appliances are all updated, of course and there's central air. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking.

The sound, called Banks Channel, is across the street with a public access on either end of the street. The front porch looks over Banks Channel and has a great sunset view.

There is off street parking for four cars. And an outdoor shower.

Public beach accesses to both the Channel and the ocean are just down the street. The beach is one block east.

It's a lovely stroll along the beach and around the tip of the island at Masonboro Inlet. There's a bird sanctuary there so bring your binoculars. Or, often, there will be Audubon Society volunteers who will let you use their binoculars and scopes and provide information. Scheduled bird talks are also available.

Across the inlet is Masonboro Island, to which you can paddle or motor. It's 8 miles of uninhabited beauty.

We LOVE to sail (see the photo of our boat) and we'd be happy to invite you and your family along, weather dependent, so check with us! We have beautiful wooden sailboat that's comfortable and safe for everyone. We sail in Banks Channel, not much in the ocean.

For paddle boarders or kayakers, we can show you the paddle routes through the marsh just across from the house. The access to the water is just across the street from the house. Easy to carry your watercraft.

Bicycling on the beach at low tide is always fun and bikes are the best way to get up to downtown WB for the restaurants. We offer bicycles as needed.

About Mari

Bryan's grandparents built this cottage in 1962. Bryan grew up spending every summer here. Bryan and I, Mari, are now the third generation of Humphreys to own this lovely spot. Bryan is a home bulider/general contractor/master craftsman. I'm a hospice nurse. We have four grown children and we all love to be out on the water, sailing in old wooden boats, paddle boarding and surfing. We also love to host, share our home and our knowledge of the best spots and the best activities for every weather condition.

Mari purchased this cottage in 1962

Why Mari chose South End

Wrightsville Beach is a special place. I've traveled all over the world and I can say from experience that the beach and water here are among the loveliest. White sand, wide beach, blue water (no river nearby to turn it brown). And on WB, one of the loveliest spots is the southend. Our cottage is on a quiet year-round residential street, one of the few streets left with little cottages. No public parking on the street, we have off street parking, so even the chaos of the summer doesn't affect this peaceful spot. The house is cozy without being cramped. It's clean and dry with lots of natural light. Water view from almost every room.

Great location, awesome vibe!

  • 5 of 5

We were three generations staying at this cottage, and it had everything we needed, plus the feeling of being in Wrightsville of old (except with strong central AC)!! Layout is really nice, front living room that opens onto the front deck that overlooks the sound, where we were able to see a couple of fantastic sunsets. Rooms are quiet, so loud conversation in living room does not keep up the early to bed early to rise crew. We were able to cook in nearly every day, everything you need to make good home cooked meals is in the kitchen. Sound access was less than a block away, and ocean access only a couple hundred feet further...really convenient. Mari was always available for minor questions via text, which I really appreciated. My Mom and her sister who have been coming to Wrightsville for generations said it felt just like staying in our old cottage!! Strongly recommend if you're looking for a comfortable, but non-McMansion, vibe.

Fun, Fishing and Beach! (written by 7-year-old Harry)

  • 5 of 5

I lived in Wrightsville Beach 20 years ago and this was the perfect spot to remember why this beach is so special. Perfect location - walking distance to channel, beach, pier, coffee, surf shop and more. House was perfect simplicity - the sunsets on the porch and the game collection were some highlights. Owners were great and responded immediately to any questions. We will definitely be back next year.

Just as advertised. Vintage cottage in a fantastic location. 5 star hosts

We had a memorable week at this cottage. The beach was a quick walk and not crowded at all. Ideal for playing in the ocean with a life guard there just in case. The view of the evening sunset was a nightly event from the porch. Nice quiet street which suited us!! The hosts went out of their way and that was appreciated since it was our first visit to Wrightsville Beach. We loved this cottage and the area. Hope to return soon

Great old school beach retreat

  • 5 of 5

Loved being in a throw-back beach cottage stocked with board games, sound views and no tv! Kids (7&9) had a ball playing in the sound across the st and with local kids on the block. Beach was just 2 blocks away and an easy walk. You're also walkable to the point where there is a bird estuary. Water St is family oriented, which is what we wanted. The owner was very helpful and accessible. We had a fabulous time! Note to renters: bring your beach towels & chairs. If you have kids, a hand net, cast net and other critter catchers will occupy them for HOURS everyday in the sound. It's also a great st for scooters and bikes. Can't wait to come back!
