Overview

About the property

Condo, 2 Bd/3 Ba, (King sized beds in both bedrooms)

This is one condo complex where 'location- location- location' really fits. Your Zihuatanejo vacation hide-a-way is in a new and small gated condominium complex very close to the beaches, central shopping, restaurants & nightlife areas. Here you will find the vegetation is lush & tropical with an abundance of flowers.

It is located in the Playa Madera district between the famous La Ropa beach & “El Centro“ or downtown areas. And just around the corner on Calle Adelita - dubbed “gourmet alley” by the locals, are at least nine small great mom & pop restaurants. “Mom & Pop” in the sense that they care about building a return customer base…a far cry from the larger impersonal restaurants found in some other areas.

Playa Madera (‘playa’ = beach in Spanish) is a short two minute walk away and La Ropa beach is a 10 minutes walk. The town center, a short 8-10 minute stroll away, is a bustling, vibrant area for food, farmers & artisans markets, and also with many local restaurants. This also has everyone's favorite shopping experience-the Mercado Municipal where everything you can imagine is sold, including a fabulous seafood market with only the freshest fish, shrimp, lobster and octopus are sold at very reasonable prices. The El Centro beach area has a fishermen’s market and is fringed with even more small quaint restaurants. In the mornings you can buy fish right from the boats as they slide up on the beach. There is a central square or 'zocalo' which hosts many local activities such as bands, dance shows and sporting events.

The condominium complex (La Ceiba) has a unique look with modern Mexican architectural influences utilizing tropical hardwoods, river stone accents and polished concrete. The condominium (1,500 sq/feet) comprises 2 bedrooms, both with en-suite baths, a den (offering a third full bathroom downstairs) and a complete and deluxe kitchen for those who really love to cook fine meals. Also a large private patio - your covered outdoor living/dining space with a large table. Unlike so many of the condos in Zihuatanejo, here you will find almost no steps from the street to the front door, and just a dozen to the two upstairs bedrooms. The furnishings are designed for your comfort and visual delight with a contemporary Mexican feel. Your condo's kitchen is complete with nice cookware, blender/ toaster/coffee maker, microwave oven, unlimited purified water and full sized fridge/freezer.

Upon arrival you will be met at the gate and shown your vacation hide-a-way by an English speaking property manager or me. She (Almendra) will be your daily contact should you need something for the unit or just directions. She is easily found on the property daily.

Fortunately, Zihuatanejo has maintained its’ very Mexican feel with no high rise buildings & no American hotel or fast food chains. There is a nightlife scene with live, mellow music but it folds up early by gringo standards. For those who are after the all-night disco and bar scene, twenty minutes away by taxi (about five bucks to get there) is the tourist development of Ixtapa. Here you can party all night if you wish at Senor Frogs/Carlos-O’Brian’s and the like. And here the Marina has an array of sports-fishing opportunities as well. Snorkeling / diving outfitters & trips to local beaches & beauty spots are available, as well as a first-class golf course.

Zihuatanejo has direct links with major US cities at the airport ten minutes by car from the city. Taxis are cheap and plentiful so you can forget about the rental car if you are not planning to explore outlying areas -just come and relax.

For those who wish to venture to the north, a 30 minutes drive can get you to Troncones beach- a first class surfing beach 5 miles long with a few sand floor restaurants. And 30 minutes to the south is Barra de Potosi. There you will find kayak rentals to explore the large lagoon and a dozen shaded sand floor restaurants for lunch, hammock time, and lounge chair beach watching to spend the days as many folks do.

My wife and I have lived here for the last three years and fully enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and close-in location, however do to a medical condition she has developed trouble with the bedroom stairs. If you are not “stair-challenged” and wish a full ocean/beach view, please see our other La Ropa beach condo listing in VRBO- enter #192186 in the VRBO search field . Thanks for looking!

This La Ceiba unit has few 'guest testimonials' because it has not been in the rental market until now, but you can read how vacationer's have been cared for at our other VRBO rental as noted above. We think we know how to offer a clean well maintained property and the service you expect for a great vacation.

To lock in your Zihuatanejo vacation dates we ask for a 50% deposit. Your final payment would be due 30 days prior to arrival. At that time I also ask for a $250 security deposit which is promptly refunded after departure.

About Jim

After years of sailing Mexican waters we retired fulltime in Mexico first on the Baja peninsula in 2000. As the years went by we started looking for another clean safe area but now one with very good medical care available. Zihuatanejo answered the call.

Jim purchased this condo in 2010

Why Jim chose Zihuatanejo

Zihuatanejo has a world-class airport, is safe and clean and has five great hospitals should they be needed. Especially nice are the clean uncrowded beaches with a very gentle surf.

What makes this condo unique

Location-location-location....our 28 unit condo complex is so perfectly located. The downtown 'Centro' area is five minutes walk/two minutes walk to the beach/and a row of small gourmet restaurants right around the corner. Inside the locked gate of the La Ceiba complex is peace, quiet and private atmosphere to long remember from your well earned vacation.

Couldn't ask for a better location or more congenial host

  • 5 of 5

Our first visit to Zihuatanejo and we would recommend it highly to travelers like us who prefer a more 'authentic' rather than an all-inclusive-resort style of experience in Mexico. The complex and condo are very well maintained, attractive and comfortable, well shaded from the heat of the daytime temperatures. We walked almost everywhere we wanted to go, which we really appreciated. Meals available on the restaurant strip just around the corner from the condo were nothing less than outstanding, though we also enjoyed shopping for fresh seafood and produce at the market and bbq'ing for ourselves on our patio. Beaches were lovely, we felt safe and not hassled at all in Zihua (unlike Xtapa area!). Jim was a most gracious, generous and helpful host, and made our stay even more perfect.

Ideal Location, Great Accommodations in a Well-Kept Complex

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I chose Jim's property for our first visit to Zihuatenejo, a two-week getaway, mainly for location and affordability, and with a view to bringing another couple with us. We ended up having it to ourselves and enjoyed having our own bathrooms but it would be ideal for two couples or a family of six or fewer. The condo was as nice as the pictures show, and the kitchen had most of the basics needed for casual food prep. I especially appreciated that there was a variety of sharp knives - something lacking in other condos we have rented. Jim was very responsive to all of my early enquiries, which he handled through email and a Skype call. We were most appreciative that Jim picked us up at the airport and took us to the local supermarket for supplies on our way to the condo. Jim lives close by and was easy to reach by email, and was quick to resolve the few minor issues that we had (also there is a phone for local calls that we didn't use). Dedicated Wifi worked well in most areas of the condo - we did not try to log in to the complex Wifi at the pool but others were using it just fine. The owners and guests that we met at the pool area were all very pleasant and friendly. The grounds and pool area were clean and well maintained; we loved the pool - very refreshing as the ocean was so warm that it was more like a bath. Jim's description of location is spot-on. There is a lot to choose from close by for dining, drinks and shopping. We were early in the season so most places were not busy other than the first weekend which was a Mexican holiday. The town has a really pleasant vibe, and we felt safe everywhere that we walked, day and night. Merchants are friendly and welcoming and not overly pushy. Most of the tourists that we saw were Mexican families from inland, otherwise older Americans and Canadians. We loved this destination for its authenticity, relative cleanliness and safety. We highly recommend Jim's property and Jim as host. Thank you, Jim, for an excellent holiday!

ZIH is 4.5 miles away/10-15 minutes drive

Ixtapa- ride by taxi or city bus
Car: not necessary

A number of close-by 'on-the-beach' restaurants have lounge chairs and umbrellas for day use. If you order a beverage now and then, usually the chair and umbrella is of no charge. These places are a great way to spend the day reading and/or people watching at the surfs edge. Given you are only a short block and a half away, you are

close to kayak and boogie board rentals. Another fun thing is to take a ride on a 78' catamaran called Picante. Their 3 hour sail includes lunch and drinks. But as I talk to vacationer's, time and time again they rave and rate Zihua's many restaurants as on top of their lists. There are many restaurants where you can have a nice dinner and beer for about ten dollars.....and many upper end fancy restaurants run around $20-25 with wine and tip. Here at the La Ceiba complex you will fine many friendly folks around one of the pools at 'happy hour'- another way to spend your time and share travel tips with other travelers and fulltime residents.
