About Kehau McKee

Aloha, I am Kehau McKee, owner/operator of Molokai Hilltop Cottage. Born and raised in Hawaii on the island of O'ahu. Growing up in Honolulu, my family, looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, traveled to Molokai often and when ever opportunity allowed to visit, play, enjoy and work this property which belonged to my Tutu (grandmother) Over the years, I have naturally grown to love this island and this property my Mother left to me, always returning back to Molokai through the years. In 1975 my husband and I moved to Molokai to be near my parents who had since retired to live out their years here. Our children were born and raised

here, but sadly have had to move to the outer islands of Maui & O'ahu for better employment oppertunities and raise their families. They return home often as they can for vacation and holiday to share the simple local lifestyle with their children and to teach them the value of family, traditions and responsibility to the land. My husband Lou and I

live part time between the islands of Molokai, O'ahu and Maui.

Come, visit, and experience this rare beauty and the peaceful and tender rejuvenation of mind, body and spirit we have all come to know and love here on Molokai....a place like no other!

Mahalo Nui,

Kehau McKee

Great hideaway

  • 5 of 5

This airy, spacious cottage has great views of the surrounding ocean, Maui, and Lanai. It is perched on a hillside a couple of hundred feet up from the ocean. Cottage is well outfitted, a well organized kitchen with open shelves, a very comfortable bed, and large lanai. Two minutes from the main road, it is quiet and private. Owner is happy to help. Well located it is closer to the wetter east end but not far from town.

Relaxing private getaway

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed the privacy and peacefulness of this cute cottage. Gorgeous views. Super comfortable king bed. Amazing water pressure in the shower. Would definitely recommend it to a couple if you are wanting to relax away from everyone else.

beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

The property was just as described. The home is compact but comfortable, the bed is comfortable, the house was clean, had everything we needed and the views from everywhere on the property are stunning. We would definitely stay at the Hilltop Cottage if we return to Molokai. Thank you for a very pleasant stay.

Excellent with some areas for improvement

  • 4 of 5

Great location with wonderful views. Owners need to do some upkeep on deck boards (some rotting away, many splintering, an accident waiting to happen).

Biggest concern was the mice. Kitchen countertops and stove and table covered with droppings every morning Saw several mice scampering about with one even popping up through the stovetop while we were in the kitchen preparing breakfast. I think if the owners can address these concerns they will continue to offer a wonderful place to stay.

We very much value your feedback and we will utilize them to continue to make our guest experience the best it can be. Please know we are currently working on plans to repair the deck and secure it's safety. We deeply apologize for your experience with the other issue. It has been taken care of and fully resolved. We will do our very best and work diligently to insure an experiences like that will not happen again. Mahalo again for your stay with us and we hope to be able to accommodate you again should plans call for another visit to the island. The 180 Degree View

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Hilltop Cottage. Located squarely in Molokai's beautiful and verdant east side, it offers good access to town and is a great base for further adventures such as a trip to the Halawa Valley or to nearby beaches, historical spots, and the Goods and Grindz store and lunch spot. Set on the top of a largish property, the house has an incredible view over the water to Maui, and is very private. The deck is incredible for star gazing and maybe because of the steady ocean breeze we had no problem with mosquitoes or other pests even when outside at all hours.

Jill the on-site caretaker lives down the hill and is VERY helpful and friendly. She even mailed our thermos bottles which we forgot to us at home, and she is glad to work with you if you have a question or need advice about local resources. The kitchen has the basics that we needed as people who like to cook. We weren't able to turn on the oven but never bothered Jill with that because we could do everything we needed stove top. If you are someone who likes to eat local as we do, supplement your shopping with a visit to Molokai Fish and Dive on the main drag in Kaunakakai. They regularly have fresh caught fish in their cooler (as opposed to the conventional grocery stories like Friendly Market on the main drag, which have the same frozen Atlantic salmon we get on the mainland) and make their own poke.

The house has a lovely bright open layout with great linens, towels, good washer and dryer. LIke any place on the coast worldwide, the deck shows some weathering issues but nothing scary. We heartily recommend this place if you are looking for a restorative getaway for two!

Nice place

  • 5 of 5

Had a great stay at the Cottage. Totally enjoyed the Quiet, beautiful view. Only negative I have is the deck is rotted in some spots and nails are exposed. Unsafe for young kids.

Other than that, I would plan to visit the Cottage again!
