About Kehau McKee

Aloha, I am Kehau McKee, owner/operator of Molokai Hilltop Cottage. Born and raised in Hawaii on the island of O'ahu. Growing up in Honolulu, my family, looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, traveled to Molokai often and when ever opportunity allowed to visit, play, enjoy and work this property which belonged to my Tutu (grandmother) Over the years, I have naturally grown to love this island and this property my Mother left to me, always returning back to Molokai through the years. In 1975 my husband and I moved to Molokai to be near my parents who had since retired to live out their years here. Our children were born and raised

here, but sadly have had to move to the outer islands of Maui & O'ahu for better employment oppertunities and raise their families. They return home often as they can for vacation and holiday to share the simple local lifestyle with their children and to teach them the value of family, traditions and responsibility to the land. My husband Lou and I

live part time between the islands of Molokai, O'ahu and Maui.

Come, visit, and experience this rare beauty and the peaceful and tender rejuvenation of mind, body and spirit we have all come to know and love here on Molokai....a place like no other!

Mahalo Nui,

Kehau McKee

Great hideaway

  • 5 of 5

This airy, spacious cottage has great views of the surrounding ocean, Maui, and Lanai. It is perched on a hillside a couple of hundred feet up from the ocean. Cottage is well outfitted, a well organized kitchen with open shelves, a very comfortable bed, and large lanai. Two minutes from the main road, it is quiet and private. Owner is happy to help. Well located it is closer to the wetter east end but not far from town.

Hilltop Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was very relaxing, quiet and private. I had extended a work trip for some solitude in paradise, and my god did I find it! :)

I am already looking to book a second stay in the near future. The view and the privacy are incredible. The house is in decent shape. I've seen some past reviews where some complained about the age or bugs, but the cottage is up to date and in good condition! You have to realize you are in a wooded area so there may be a bug or two, but that is all I saw. I highly recommend this cottage and I will be returning!

Peaceful getaway

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is very comfortable on the beautiful east end of Molokai. The setting is stunning, it feels remote yet you are only a mile from the local village. Cottage has everything you need and nothing that you don't. This is my second stay and I recommend it.

My fifth stay at Hilltop Cottage.

  • 5 of 5

I love this magical place, view is awesome, nice breezes and good sun. Sit on the deck and watch the whales while looking over at Maui. My preferred place on Molokai. I have had quality time bringing each grandchild over with me for a stay. East side location is cooler, greener and quiet. A mile west is the neighborhood store with necessities available and a little "drive in" eatery that has absolutely the best Mahi Mahi burgers in the world. Thirty minute beautiful drive to town and the harbor. Did I mention the awesome sunrises? Bathroom is huge with jacuzzi tub that feels so good after day on the beach. Bed is so comfortable. Owners are working on upgrades; kind of hard when it is almost always rented, but they are pecking away at it. Places on the islands require a lot of maintenance. Bottom line, want a real get away and privacy - this is it! Thank you Kehau.

Great secluded location with a commanding view of the ocean (with Maui off in the distance)...

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the ocean view from the secluded location of this cottage. Big open living room, bedroom and bathroom. It was nice that the bath had both a shower and a bathtub. We would stay here again!

Stormy Molikai

  • 3 of 5

Molokai was my husbands choice for 5 days of a 10 day stay--he wanted seclusion. The private Hilltop cottage provided that seclusion he desired. The week was stormy but tolerable. My biggest complaint to the Hilltop cottage was we were given wrong directions and after payment in full never recieved the correct address to the place--we spent about 3 hours driving to an address that did not exisit in the dark stormy weather. Please get directions before you go for sometimes the owners do not answer their phone (Oahu). My second more minimal issue was the place is scantly stocked with almost no ammenities like sugar, coffee, creamer or even the most basic items. The dishes etc were fine. You are about 30 min from the airport and shopping for groceries. We never found a decent restaurant in Molokai so we decided to cook which was very nice at Hilltop Cottage. The views and peaceful surroundings are great. The jacuzzi is nice and the open space is wonderful--the bed is great too.

Owner's Response: Aloha, we very much appreciate all reviews from guest. Our sincere and deep apologies were expressed to this guest for the error, confusion and miscommunication regarding driving directions to Hilltop Cottage. Having checked my cell msgs / emails, I learned of their situation. I immediately contacted them and was grateful that I was able to securely and safely direct them to their destination. This is the first time this has happened and we humbly apologize. As noted in past reviews, this has never been an issue. It is our steady policy that once payment is received, a return email is immediately sent to confirm a receipt of payment which secures the reservation. Also included is an expression of appreciation for said reservation along with easy Driving Directions to Hilltop Cottage and other helpful tips. To our future guest, please rest assure that we pay strict attention to this issue and will work diligently to affirm this will not happen again. Following is an excerpt from an email to this guest the following morning after their arrival. { Good Morning Lora, hope you both received a good night sleep last night and that you are slowly able to relax and enjoy your surroundings now that you are at the Cottage. My deep apologies for what you had to endure last night looking for the Cottage. After reviewing your inquiry, it was my error for not providing driving directions. I thought I had sent as I usually do after receipt of payment and since I did not hear from you, I assumed all was good. I'm so sorry. It is not our norm. The confusion about address, I didn't realize vrbo.com still listed our old address of 656 Kam V Hwy, I have it removed. Because we send driving directions and other tips via email, the current and correct address is provided within. Nevertheless, it doesn't excuse my error and I again humbly apologize for that. I do hope you enjoy your visit to the island, it's the perfect place to relax, unwind and let go of the hustle and bustle of normal everyday life. Please know that you may call me anytime of day or nite if you should have any other questions. Below are Driving Directions and other helpful tips, although late, it may still contain some helpful information. Mahalo again, ~Kehau } Regarding coffee, because guest have selected taste and preference for coffee, condiments and the like, we advise to bring own food and drinks. All other basic essentials are provided at Hilltop Cottage. Mahalo
