I am Ocean Grove's last remaining multi-generational innkeeper. My great-grandmother bought our hotel in 1898 and I'm the fourth generation woman in our family to own and operate it. It's been a blessing and a privilege to do so. But now it is time to let the Central Avenue House re-invent itself as a group rental. I hope your family enjoys it as much as ours has!
Jennifer purchased this Hotel in 1899
Why Jennifer chose Ocean Grove
I was fortunate enough to be born into a family of female hoteliers in the most beautiful sea shore location on earth.
What makes this Hotel unique
I love that you can walk just a few blocks and be anywhere you need to be! Whether it's two blocks to the beach or restaurants, or buying a quart of milk, getting the paper, going to the bank, post office or hardware store, everthing is so close! Best is walking into Asbury Park for the most exceptional musical and artistic culture you'll find anywhere. Asbury is the hipper, funkier, zanier cousin to Ocean Grove's Victorian, mom & pop, Americana, time stood still character. You've got the best of both worlds w/i blocks of each other when you stay at the Central Avenue House

Perfect for a large Family vacation!!!!
This house was perfect for my son's wedding. We had friends and family come from all over the country, and this huge and cozy house allowed us gathering and privacy all in one place. Close to beach, stocked with beach items (including beach passes), air conditioners in every room. Walking distance to everything we needed. Owner was close at hand if needed!!! Wonderful to work with and provided excellent information prior to our arrival regarding things to do - made planning so much easier. We all loved it!
No, thank you for being such easy and fun guests! I hope you can come back again next year.
Excellent location, plenty of room.
We had a great week. It is an easy walk to the beach, boardwalk restaurants and quaint Main Street as well as the pavilion and Tabernacle. The 2 porches are wonderful. Our family of 23 enjoyed having 14 bedrooms and plenty of seating in the dining room. The house is very well-worn but it was clean and had everything we could want. The landlord was very considerate and made everything easy for us.
Ocean Grove for 20+ with lots of space
Ocean Grove is a favorite destination for our family but this time, we got to share it with lots of family and friends (20+ people). The house has plenty of rooms for everyone to spread out yet wonderful spaces to hang out together - mainly we used the two porches, which have very comfortable seating. The owner met us on arrival and provided plenty of assistance with places to go and things to do. She had starter supplies plus plenty of laundry supplies and extras like light bulbs, in case we needed them (which we did not). The rooms were clean and beds comfortable. There were plenty of beach towels (over 30 of them) as well as plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas, so you won't need to bring any of those. We enjoyed the beach each day, walked 2 blocks to get ice cream every night and ate at the Starving Artist several mornings for breakfast. We enjoyed the Silverball pinball museum, Korean Fusion Tacos and cocktails in Asbury Park - just a short walk away. Ocean Grove is a darling place to visit, and the Central Avenue House was a perfect homebase for our large group.
Oh Julie, who knew you were a travel writer! Thank you for your kindness. Four generations of women owners are smiling with happiness that we could share our home with yours. :) It takes a village! I'm glad you and yours made memories here. All the best, Jennifer
Great for big families
We stayed at Jen's place for a family get together. There were over 20 of us and we had plenty of space. The dining room size and and set up was great because we all got to eat together. The house was close to the beach and Main Street shops. The two porches were lovely. Not having to bring any linens, towels or beach chairs was very convenient.
Martha, I'm so glad that your family enjoyed their holiday!
Review of Central Ave House
As soon as I arrived at the Central Ave house, I was greeted by Jennifer and was given a tour of the place. She gave me all the information I needed about the house, parking, the beach and places to eat/shop. It was not difficult to contact her if I needed anything during my stay. She was also very generous and understanding about having 20+ people at her house for the weekend! I highly recommend staying here if you are looking to visit Ocean Grove or Asbury Park, especially if you don't mind the two minute walk to the beach :)
Inn It to Win It!
Without a doubt the most incredible place to entertain a group of fun-loving bachelor-bash beachgoers looking for welcoming porches, people, pizza and parties with pals.
Our entire group of 15 each had their own comfortable room to sleep in and space to catch up on old times. We're already making plans to make a weekend at the Central Avenue House an annual event. Thanks to Jennifer for making this a must-visit and can't-wait-to-return!
Your group was my first "guy weekend" rental and your group was fantastic! I hope other guy groups follow in your footsteps :)
Ocean Grove was founded in 1869 as an outgrowth of the camp meeting movement in the United States. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has more per capita Victorian architecture than any other town in the United States. You don't even need a vehicle during your stay as everything in town is within walking distance. World famous Asbury Park, home of Bruce Springsteen, is just a 5 minute walk away. Asbury has emerged as the new Brooklyn with its fine restaurants, arts, music and entertainment scene. There is always a festival feel to this City by the Sea. We're a mere 45 miles south of New York City - hop the train from Asbury and be enchanted by all the City has to offer. Philadelphia is 70 miles west and easily accessible by bus or auto. Within 10 - 30 minutes by car you can indulge in marina fishing, golf, horseback riding/the track, Great Adventure amusement center & animal park and PNC Art Center concert hall. Atlantic City is 75 miles south.
