Adventure Central! - Base of Pikes Peak - Fun Modern Loft

Bedrooms 1
Property type house

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5)

5580 Winnemucca is an octagonal loft elevated on a massive pole set deep into a forested mountain slope. Practically invisible from area streets, the home emerges from the woods as you drive up the 200-foot driveway, with level parking for up to four cars. Take the steps up the side of the hill to the front porch deck landing and enter the house. The living room features six floor-to-ceiling windows that look out into the tops of the trees and the mountains beyond. Guests can enjoy a leather sofa, a love seat that folds out to a twin bed, a dining table and four chairs, and rocking chairs. Off the living room is a fully equipped kitchen, with new appliances, which opens out onto the sunny south-facing deck. The bathroom provides a large shower and ample soft towels (no bathtub). The bedroom includes a queen pillow top mattress on a handmade Southwestern style bed with matching nightstands and reading lamps, a chest of drawers, glider rocker, closet and bookshelves. The bedroom also has a sleeping loft, accessible up a ladder, with a full-size bed. This loft includes a catwalk to the 'kid loft' where older youngsters can take their sleeping bags.

A laundry room is available on a lower level, as well as a detached room (extra $25/night) with a single bed and full-size sleeping loft.

About Don

Hi, I'm Don and I lived in this fabulous, unique little elevated house from 1994 until 2010, when I married Vicky and we moved six miles away to Manitou Springs. I raised my boys in this house, climbing trees, hiking Pikes Peak and using it as our base camp for amazing outdoor adventure. You'll see great photography on the walls of some of my cave exploration. I can provide plenty of information on area rock climbing, ice climbing, caving, and back-country skiing.

Don purchased this house in 1994

Why Don chose Cascade

We can walk out the door and hike straight up Pikes Peak on the Rim the Peak Trail. We enjoy more than 300 sunny days a year in Colorado. It takes ten minutes to get to the restaurants and festivals of Manitou Springs, or we can head west into the glorious Rocky Mountains and all the outdoor activities found there. And Colorado Springs metropolitan area is 15 minutes down the highway to the east. Centrally located in America's vacation wonderland!

What makes this house unique

Clean fresh air, starry nights, secluded pines and aspens. Sleep like a log at 7500 feet.

Great location. Loved the cozy atmosphere of the loft and the privacy of being up on the hill wrapped in the trees. We will for sure be back.

HA newbie & found this amazing unique place! Loved place & Don's fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

Highly recommended! OMG, this Octagonal Treehouse was more spectacular than I'd expected. I booked it & kept it a surprise for my hubby -- he was super digging it 😀... Don, the Owner, was patient (I asked a lot of questions), kind, knowledgeable & easily reached. Really bummed we couldn't stay longer & spent most of the days @ easily accessed Garden of the Gods (wow!!)& Pikes Peak Scenic Drive (both quintessential)...Home was clean & tidy, w/a stocked kitchen (not food-wise), soft pillows, great beds, dual decks enveloped w/peaceful, glorious views. And the bathroom. Very unexpected joy when I opened its door & saw the rain shower head above an extra-large bathtub. I wanted to just hang there & the decks, but nooooo (tongue-in-cheek... I truly love CO) stupid Colorado has to be all blindingly beautiful & seduced us w/its Siren Song... This place is super cool & I will definitely be back & be recommending Don's place. :)

Riverside, CA

quiet getaway

This was a nice little bungalow set in the woods. It had a lovely view and nice places to sit outside. It's great for 2 people. The driveway is a challenge but we enjoyed our time.
