Centrally located guesthouse is an urban oasis

Bedrooms 1
Space 500 sq ft
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bath With Living/Dining Area, WiFi, Full Kitchen And Laundry

Built in the 20's, Leon House is the guesthouse of my historic Austin property, but separated from my house by a fence and good sized yard and accessed from a separate alley, ensuring a private and comfortable stay. This 500 square foot cottage features a living/dining area with HDTV and WiFi, a cozy queen bedroom with yummy linens, season-appropriate bedding and a closet, a small but highly functional shower bathroom and a full kitchen, outfitted by me (I love to cook) that has a dishwasher and washer/dryer. I lived here for six weeks while my home was being renovated and was seriously questioning the need to move across the yard.

About Syd Sharples

I'm a northeasterner, but have lived in Austin for 23 years. I love it here! An avid and discriminating traveler, I know what I like when I stay in hotels and rental properties. I love cooking (and eating), and am so glad the Austin restaurant scene has evolved from when I moved here (from San Francisco): right after I arrived, the local paper had a (GLOWING!!!) review. Of Red Lobster. Nothing against Red Lobster, but there are now plenty of more unique restaurants and trailers to review.

Syd Sharples purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Syd Sharples chose Old Enfield

Leon House is private, comfortable, and superbly located for exploring Austin and enjoying all the wonderful things and activities and people this city has to offer.

What makes this cottage unique

This property - my house and Leon house - has great juju. Come check it out!

It was nice to have such a beautiful place to come "home" to after eventful days!

  • 4 of 5

Off-the-beaten track, but just a short walk to Cafe Medici for coffee and not far from Hope park, either. I'm not sure folks would want to be away from the thick of the downtown area, but it's truly not far away. I particularly liked getting around on a BCycle. Syd thoughtfully prepared a welcome basket and recommendations for area restaurants. While I chose this place based on pictures of bright sun coming in, the weekend was grey and drizzly. Still, the natural light was lovely, and when the windows were propped open, I could hear the birds. Quite pretty!

Cute, private, quiet, with parking.

  • 5 of 5

Everything that I wanted for a stay in Austin. Private, off street parking, literally 15 feet from the front door to this hideaway cottage, craftsman furniture, original art on the walls, books about Austin history and tourist attractions, and cute as a button. This was my second stay there, and I would not think of staying anywhere else the next time that I am in Austin.

Beautifully appointed space. Gorgeous neighborhood. Comfortable with all the amenities.

  • 5 of 5

This is a special place in Austin. I usually stay in hotels during my business trips. I wanted to get a better feel for Austin and staying at Leon House was just the answer. Art in the cottage was eclectic with just enough local flare. Really comfortable in every way.

Peaceful Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Austin is a charming city. I enjoy exploring what the city has to offer, but the intensity of urban life sometimes makes me want to retreat. The Leon House is a tastefully renovated, enchanting, peaceful place to stay. There is everything you need for daily living, with a sense of design that envelops. I loved staying here and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy the heart of Austin without the hubub. Bridget

Car: not necessary

Austin is full of possibilities: great restaurants and ubercool trailers (or food trucks for some of you out-of-towners), amazing live music, a full festival calendar, UT and all it has to offer, world class shopping from the chic Domain to funky S. Congress, up and coming S. First and the stylish Second Street District, watersports, hiking and cycling, museums, art - it's truly a hip and happening place. Leon House is located right in the thick of it. Not downtown, but as close as you can get without living in a skyscraper. Close to Enfield Road, you can catch a bus to UT, to the airport, downtown, or north Austin. Whole Foods is within walking distance (though I'm lazy and usually drive), as are numerous coffee shops and restaurants. A car is handy but not essential, and biking is a great way to get around (especially to ACL and SXSW). And I'm so happy to offer tips and advice on where to go, where to eat, what to see, how to get to the dry cleaners, etc.
