About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5)

We just happened upon this property. A friend of ours was looking for land to build on, he loved the view at the property but the cottage was so quaint and adorable that he couldn't bear to do a tear down. Lucky us...he told my husband about it and he bought it on the spot. Our middle son and I went to look at it the next day...we also fell in LOVE!

We have Douglas fir floors throughout except in laundry/bunkbed room, bath and king bedroom. High toilet, step in tub/shower, pedestal sink in bathroom. Bedroom has new king size 'Select Comfort' bed, chest of drawers, closet and wicker chaise lounge. The blue and yellow themed kitchen has open cupboards and mosaic tile countertops furnished with everything you need to feel right at home. Coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator, four burner electric stove and oven, toaster, blender, deep fryer, crockpot and large pots for steaming your crab catch!

The fireplace is so comfy and cozy. Wood is provided behind gate in carport during the winter. For summer use bring your own wood. We use the fireplace almost year round. We have a large couch, recliner and futon (that makes into dbl. bed) in main room. Wood dining table with 4 chairs and four extra card table chairs w/table in bedroom closet. We also have a portable high chair to secure to chair for baby/toddler feeding.

We have improved the trail to the beach twice...the last time with our friendly neighbors help. We enlarged the deck to 800 sq. ft. of unobstructed ocean view. We have a swing set in the back of the property along with a fire pit. There is a teak dining table with umbrella and six large chairs on the deck, plus three chaise lounges. We also have a glass table for four on the deck for your enjoyment. The yard and deck area are closed in for pet protection.

We have had many family get togethers here over the years. Sand Harp Cottage makes a great place to have meals, play games, take beach strolls, watch fabulous sunsets and have lots of fun together.

Come stay at Sand Harp Cottage and make your own memories!

About elaine or Larry

We have three amazing sons and three fabulous daughters-in-law, plus six marvelous grandchildren! Our Labradoodle, Darby, comes to the beach with us and loves it here. We have a rescue Yorkie as well, Parker. I am retired and my husband is still working as a General Contractor.

elaine or Larry purchased this cottage in 1995

Why elaine or Larry chose Central Coast

Florence is an easy two hour drive from our home outside of Springfield on the McKenzie River and a great getaway. At the beach we like to take naps, sit on the deck, take naps, play games, take naps, watch movies, take naps, gamble a little and then go to bed with window open to hear the ocean.

What makes this cottage unique

We have the nicest neighbors. In fact, our friends that maintain the cottage live right across the street. We couldn't rent this home without them.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just wanted to say thanks for the great stay. We truly enjoyed our time and wanted you to know everything was perfect. We have rented many places over the years and this was the best by far. You keep the place so well stocked for every little need and it was great! Perfect view, awesome walk to the beach and the quiet neighborhood was very much appreciated by these two people who live out in the middle of nowhere :) Thanks and we hope to rent from you again!

We have rebuilt and maintained the trail to the beach since 1995. We have always called it the 'Enchanted Forest Trail' as our great niece, Kennedy, named it years ago. Some of the locals have named it the 'Hobbit Trail'. Whatever you call it, it is a moderate walk to beautiful Heceta Beach...1/3 mile plus a short climb up berm.

Cottage on the bluff with great ocean view

  • 4 of 5

This is a modest-sized cottage with the best ocean view we had in our two weeks in Oregon. Looking out you see evergreens, then dunes, then water from the dining nook and the living room slider (you do not see the beach but can reach it on foot). From the deck the view is unobstructed. Just seeing the water is soothing. The size of the place seemed right for one couple in the master bedroom (the king bed is a tight fit but that helped us choose this rental), and there are bunk beds in the entry/laundry area. I suspect the owner's family comes with kids and dogs and it's kind of like camping indoors as there's a fold out settee and the sofa might make into a bed. The settee seating was not my favorite (we're medium-old and need firmer, upright support) but the sofa was fine and my husband took the recliner. The wall of angel figures seems like something a grandma would collect, sweet but not beach-y. That collection aside, the primary colors used throughout were nice, including the mosaic kitchen counter tops and Fiesta dishware. Roomy fridge. The kitchen has a retro look with open cupboards and a 1940s sink-cabinet affair that is marvelous (we don't mind washing dishes by hand). Good flat screen TV. There are plenty of bath towels meant for beaches and kids; Nicer towels for indoor use would make for a more special stay. We were delighted to bring our big dog along. After a long day on the beach he slept in the sunbeams shining in through the slider that gave way to the deck. I'd rent this home again.

Peaceful, quiet, restful!

  • 5 of 5

Sand Harp was just what we needed for some quiet rest. The cottage was so welcoming and clean when we arrived! We enjoyed walking down the streets of Old Town Florence, eating at Mo's and shopping. My husband and Boomer, our lab enjoyed walking the beach, which is a 5 minute walk from the house. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed and the sleep Number bed made for several nights of wonderful sleep. We can't wait to go back again!

sound of the sea

  • 5 of 5

We loved our brief stay. The view from the deck and the sound of the waves were exactly what we needed to unwind. I loved the kitchen and we cooked up a storm. The master bedroom bed was just right, and the living room was super comfy for reading. We would definitely stay again!

Delightful and Cozy beach cottage in a quiet neighborhood with ocean views and a fun hike to beach!!

  • 4 of 5

My wife & I plus our little terrier drove over from Boise & stayed Sept 6-16, 2016. We found SAND HARP to be a Delightful & Cozy beach cottage in a quiet neighborhood with ocean views & a fun hike over to the beach!! We seem drawn yearly to the Central Oregon Coast area and try to get over yearly to celebrate our anniversary each September. Weather certainly was cooperative this year with mild to even very warm days (80 degrees on 9/13/2016!) & 50s-60s overnight--NICE! We had sun every day but one which was not our normal experience. Very little fog, very little rain. Nicest weather we've had in 24 years of visits! YMMV:-)! This meant for excellent daily opps to make the 10 (or so) minute hike along the 2-planks-wide boardwalk though the magical Enchanted Hobbit trail forest & up & over the grassy and hilly dunes to the extensive & very wonderful Heceta Beach. Each day the beach "look" changes radically due to the ever-present driftwood & re-sculpted-by-the-wind sand dunes. A new landscape to behold each time you crest the final big dune to arrive at the ocean's edge. Just Awesome!! The neighbors who cooperated years ago to build the Hobbit trail & then maintain it are to be congratulated! It really makes this an extra special place. If you aren't inclined to take the slightly arduous Hobbit trail over to the beach, you have several other options just a short car drive away in order to access the incredible Heceta Beach (North Jetty access and Driftwood Shores access points). From Sand Harp's private feel, you can be in the heart of Florence in about 15 minutes and to the Fred Meyer shopping center in about 10 minutes by car (very convenient).

Sand Harp is cozy and quaint & had most everything we needed during our 10-day stay. We found the well-stocked kitchen & "shared provisions" make it quite welcoming and we made sure we left some goodies behind to pay it forward in the spirit of the owners & other travelers before us. We felt very comfortable right away at Sand Harp. Our thank yous to Larry and Elaine for making their retreat available to others. Next door neighbors, Hank & Judy, just across the way, were most helpful & kind to us during our stay. Made it feel very welcoming to have them next door.

Our furry 4-legged friend, Blizzard, chortled with joy each time we crested the Sand Dunes and saw the ocean's majesty in front of us. Darned good time--batteries fully recharged! Sad to go, but we will return again. A+
