About Elliot Balaber

We picked out the lot first when we saw the incredible views of the slopes, mountains, creek and golf course. Then we custom built our home.

Elliot Balaber purchased this house in 2004

Why Elliot Balaber chose Shenandoah Valley

We are only 2 hours door to door from our home in No. Va. and there are so many amenities on the mountain!

great cabin and lots of fun at the resort!

  • 5 of 5

We had a GREAT time at this cabin. Tons of sleeping space and very comfortable rooms both upstairs and down. Wonderful fireplaces and great hot tub. The location in the resort is fantastic with just a couple of minutes from the adventure park and tubing and about 5 minutes from the waterpark. Highly recommend this place!

A terrific space to get away

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect space for our large group! Lots of sleeping space, very tucked away and cozy, and a wonderful view of the trees and mountains from the back decks. Elliot was extremely easy to communicate with, even calling to double-check a few details before confirming everything. We only had one tiny snafu with figuring out where to park, but the driveway fits 2-3 cars and we managed the rest without any problem. We had such a lovely time getting away from it all! This property is beautiful, spacious, secluded, and divine. Perfect!

Great mountain home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this home during family weekend for my daughter's college. Elliot was easy to deal with and house was very nice. We loved the hot tub. It's very private and was really relaxing on the cool nights. It was clean and worked well, and there were plenty of towels provided. We also used the pool table quite a bit, and watched a movie. The upstairs TV setup is very nice with plenty of room. We didn't try any of the others. The bedrooms were good (we only used 3). Having a kitchen on both levels is a nice extra. It's convenient to put water on both floors. We found the house very clean and well furnished. It does not come with extras like hand soap in the bathrooms (that would be nice) or spices, but it did have dishwashing supplies.

I would suggest leaving some towels on the upper level. When we arrived, it was pouring rain, and there is no cover over the front door. I struggled with the lock box a bit, and ended up being soaked before entering. We removed shoes inside the door, but towels nearby would have been helpful. Not a big deal though. The only real negative for me was the driveway. I had planned to park on the street since it was pouring down rain, but there really isn't anywhere safe that I could find. I ended up going in the driveway very very slowly and actually got out of the van at the top to look since you can't see where you are going as you head over the top. But after that first time, it was not an issue. It is a mountain property, so this isn't really a negative for the house, just for me.

Overall the house is great. For us, the hot tub, pool table, and large TV really make the place. It's also very convenient to the hiking trails, which are beautiful.

Avoid if possible

  • 1 of 5

We had a real bad experiece with this property last month. The house was dirty and was only superficially cleaned. The pans and dishes had to be washed again before use and some of the things are that dirty you couldn't even touch. Most of the furniture is old and you would just sink in to sofas and beds. I took pictures when we moved in but there is no place to show that on this review.

Even before coming we checked if there is an arrangement of ice and we were told there are two ice makers in the fridges but when we reached both of them didn't work. When we complained we were told that we should buy the ice and we would get reimursed. Good luck with that if its at 10 in the night and you are on the mountain and its raining and the house has a steep driveway. Result: Buy your own ice.

There is no iron in the house and when we checked the owner had no clue and he sent a messgae to cleaning lady who never replied throught our stay. Result: Buy your own iron.

The towels are so used and at end of life, and all of them were in the lower part of the house. So if you go to bathroom there is no towel unless you put a few in each. Result: Do not go to bathroom until you find towels.

We had half of roll of toilet paper in our bathroom and that was the case of two other bathrooms too. There was only one spare in one of the bathrooms. There is no hand soap. When we asked for the cleaning lady's contact we were told to contact through email only which never was replied to. Result: buy your own toilet paper and hand soap for each bathroom before you come in.

I believe the owner has no interest in the property and everything is left to cleaning lady who is taking advantage of the owner not being around.

The owner was hardly apologetic and sounded arrogant so we just let it go on second day and continued with life. Try to avoid this property until the improvements are made.

Overall, we felt like we CAMPED on mountains but paid price of a hotel.

By the way we were never reimbursed $5 for ice because we didn't ask for it and owner showed no courtsey on his own :)

Owner's Response: First of all I am sorry that this guest did not enjoy my home and if she wishes to stay again I will try to make it up to her. Now let me address her complaints respectively: She(no name given) did call about the ice and iron. I do not advertise having an iron but since this lady, who was not Ritesh, the gentleman I rented to and dealt with along, was so adamant about it I said I'd check with my maid. Unfortunately we do not have an iron. As for the ice, I had just had the water filters replaced on both refrigerators and they forgot to turn the water valve back on. This issue has been resolved and, at the time, I did ask if she could just buy ice down the street at the country store and I would reimburse her. However, I did not know that she would do so at 10 PM on a rainy night. She had called me early in that morning. As for the house being dirty that's just untrue. Ironically my maid of 3 years had just been tipped by the last guests because she did such a good job. Besides, when I was called about the iron and ice nothing was mentioned about the condition of the house or furniture otherwise I would have sent my maid right over. I'm not even sure what she means by some things you couldn't even touch. In addition, my maids information and phone number are right on the refrigerator so I, again, am befuddled as to her claim that she couldn't reach her. As for the towels, they are all in good to new condition and are stored downstairs. We leave starters for toilet paper with spare rolls in all 4 bathrooms. I picked this lot out myself and built this home 13 years ago and take great pride in it as well as my guests' satisfaction. We have tons of excellent reviews as you can see. Unfortunately this review was not placed by the renter, Ritesh, but by one of his anonymous guests. Judging by her volatile attitude over an iron and ice I'm not sure if anything or anyone would have pleased her. I'm sorry about that.
