About the property

House, 4 Bdrm/2.5 Baths/Den/Sunroom, Sleeps 14 in beds

Our house is located in the middle of an old tree-lined, family neighborhood with the Merrimac River and a launching dock at the bottom of the street. Up until this summer, the house has been owner occupied and is fully furnished with all the necessities and then some. The backyard is shaded with large trees and can be enjoyed from the first floor deck off the kitchen or the second floor balcony off the den.

A 15 minute walk through a family and dog friendly neighborhood or along the river will lead you to the historic seaport village of Newburyport. There, one will find countless fine specialty and antique stores, restaurants, an old movie theatre, a live performance theater, a boat dock, river walk and a park on the river with live outdoor entertainment. There is also a bike and walking trail and the ocean is a four mile drive or bike ride away. Whale watching tours and deep sea-fishing excursions are offered from downtown locations and there is a Maritime Museum as well as many other historic buildings and homes.

Within a couple of blocks from home there are two public parks with playgrounds, a baseball and a soccer field and tennis courts. One park sits on the river and has a public docking ramp. Plum Island Beach, Salisbury State Beach and the Parker River Natural Wildlife Refuge are all just a few miles away as is the Plum Island Airport.

Two miles in the opposite direction of town there are two large grocery stores, drug stores, gas stations, a K-mart, the C and J bus service to Logan Airport and South Station and direct access to Interstate 95. And two miles south is the train station that offers service to Boston's North Station where you can arrive in downtown Boston within an hour and avoid the driving and parking hassles of the city.

About lisa emerson

We are flight attendants and travel extensively during the summer months so we thought it would be nice to share our home and town while we are seeing other parts of the world.

lisa emerson purchased this house in 1998

Why lisa emerson chose Newburyport

This has been our primary home for the past eighteen years, the house in which we raised our daughter who is now off to college. We decided to employ this house to help off college tuition. Our location is ideal, being less than a mile from the lovely downtown of Newburyport with all its shops and restaurants and bars. In addition we have within a two mile radius everything essential and, drug and liquor store, local hospital, Marshall's and KMart, Interstate 95, the Merrimac River...

What makes this house unique

Newburyport is a wonderful city live in and raise a family but the bonus is it is just as wonderful to visit. Situated at the cross section of the Merrimac River and the Atlantic Ocean, the historic seaport village offers delightful specialties shops and numerous dining venues.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Owner's Response: Dear Mike, I am so sorry to read that you were not 100% pleased with your stay. My goal is always 5 stars!! This is my ONLY property, my personal home and I am VERY earnest in attending to my guests and their needs. So again... my apologies for not hitting the mark with you. When you made me aware of the excessive heat with the shower, we addressed it right away. Since I don't live in the house, I rely on my guests to let me know when there I issues and I do make every effort to address them immediately, as with the shower. A new heat valve had recently been installed and no guests prior to you had had any problems. My plumber ordered another replacement part and has attended to it. A/C...In my property description, I purposefully DO NOT say that the property has A/C, although the master suite on the 3rd floor has its own permanently installed unit. The bedrooms and main living spaces have ceiling fans and I also have several floors fans throughout. Even so, I do install window units every summer season. Unfortunately, my handyman had injured his back and was not able to put them in until after your week-end stay. They ARE in now.:) I'm sorry you felt the Weber gas grill was unusable...I'm not sure why? The grates, though well used are scraped off regularly and I provide heavy duty aluminum foil in the kitchen drawers. I also attend to the propane tank regularly and have a back up tank on the deck. I DO appreciate your comments...pros and cons. I cannot fix or improve my property for the next guests if I don't know that issues are present. Your three but comments were then or have now been remedied. Thank-you for your review and I hope I will earn a 5 star rating on your next visit!! Sincerely, Lisa

Comfortable and Family Friendly

  • 5 of 5

We rented this wonderful house as a place for my out-of-town family to stay for Christmas and my wedding in December. Lisa was very quick to respond to my questions and was very accommodating. Lisa put up a Christmas tree for us and left a box of child-friendly ornaments for us to decorate. My young nephew loved getting to decorate the tree! The house is very spacious and has multiple gathering spaces for our group of 8 adults and 2 children. The kitchen is very well stocked with cooking and baking supplies and is very convenient to downtown and the water. We lived every minute of our stay!

Our group of 10 "mature" ladies, all friends from our high school years, pick a different spot every year for our reunion and this house was perfect. A nice walk to downtown for shopping and restaurants and a good place to kick off our shoes and just relax.

Exceeded Expectations

Great property that is close to everything. We had 10 of us stay in the house and an even larger group for a family reunion. Plenty of room for everyone. Close enough to walk to the park and to downtown for shopping. Everyone had a great time!
