The Compound - This Place
Welcome to Folly Beach! I sincerely hope you enjoy your time here on what I consider the quintessential of beach towns. Folly is all about the simple things in life- spending time with family and friends, wearing t-shirts and flip flops, and eating and drinking too much. The way a beach vacation is suppose to be. In 2010 I was practicing architecture struggling with the recession when I was overtaken by my idea that would soon change my life. The idea was The Compound. As life continued forward I found that The Compound helped me navigate through the good times and bad, stay true to my ideals along the way and make the best out of this adventure we call life. The Compound is truly a dream come true. I want this to be a place where you and your family create lasting memories. Whether it was the morning you caught your first wave, or the day you swam with the dolphins. Because everyone can enjoy it differently, I decided to start The Compound family so you too can create memories, in your own way.. Once again, welcome to the family. Please let me know if there is anything we can do to make your time here more memorable. Most importantly, RELAX and have FUN - your on vacation! Jason

This Place was the perfect space!
Jason was a fantastic host! This Place was just the right size and perfect walking distance to downtown or the beach. The evenings were peaceful and enjoyable on the patio. This is the only place I would stay on Folly!
Looking for a quiet getaway and found that!
The property was exactly as presented—no surprises. Owner was responsive and directions given about check in check out were clear and easy. The house is a bit quirky and minimalist. We enjoyed the large kitchen and bathroom. If you’re looking for comfy couches, big tv and surround sound, may want to look elsewhere. Easy access to beach, restaurants, etc. Plenty of space for parking at The Compound. A very pleasant experience!
Terrific house and host!
I stayed here for a month while waiting to close on a house on John's Island. It was the perfect spot - a quiet neighborhood close to the beach. The house was very clean and included a laundry facility. I will definitely recommend to all my friends!
Cute Cottage, Great Location...Lacking Comfort
Overall the cottage is as advertised. It looked the same as it did in the pictures. The price was great and the location was great too. I realized that the cottage is missing some things that I like to see when vacationing. There isn't any comfortable seating. The sofa is okay, but not one you'd curl up with a book and read all day. The various other IKEA seating is great for kids, but not for adults. The outdoor stools at the surf board table are rusted. The little bistro set on the back deck is cute, but not somewhere you'd want to sit for hours. The common space had tattered bean bag like chairs that no one would want to sit on. The bed was very uncomfortable and also pushed up against a wall so one person is always having to climb over the other. Not ideal. We spent most of the week in separate beds just so we could get some sleep. The bathroom was spacious. The european style shower is not for me, but it was fine for the week. I loved the look of the cottage from the street, but the property itself is a bit overgrown. I was looking forward to grilling only to find that the option for grilling was a charcoal grill with a palm tree looming over it. If I had lit a fire I for sure would have had the fire department there in minutes. The kitchen was great. It's a standard IKEA kitchen, but there was plenty of counter room and amenities. Although while the novelty of the cube microwave is fun a small regular microwave would be much better.
We also had a roof leak that the owner was notified about, but didn't seem concerned about. We moped it up and dealt with it, but after four days of rain it got a little old. Overall this place could be a 10 and even charge more with a few more comforts added. If you're simply looking for a place to crash I think this cottage would be fine. If you like to spend a bit more time indoors then I'm not sure this is your vacation spot.
Enjoyed our time at This place.
Loved our stay! Can’t wait to come back!
Folly Beach SC is located just a short 15 minutes south of downtown Charleston and is the closet beach community to historical Charleston. Folly Beach’s laid back lifestyle and vibe reminds many of Key West. It is the quintessential of beach towns with a slogan that reads….. “Relax it’s Folly”. Its close proximity and eclectic lifestyle attract both residents and visitors from all over. The bustling commercial district on Center Street is always abuzz with the great smells of wonderful restaurants, vintage beach and surf shops.
