'Location, Location, Location!'

Welcome to our old world mountain retreat cottage, located in beautiful, safe Cheyenne Canyon, just 5 blocks from the historic Broadmoor Hotel This is a unique area within Colorado Springs, because it is in the heart of the city, but is an enclave that is at the foohills of the front mountain range, surrounded by nature, where you can see wildlife (deer, foxes, and bear) and truly experience Colorado's rugged outdoors. It is nothing like staying in a city. Although we are less than 10 minutes from downtown, we are worlds apart.

NOTE::: If your dates are not available at this property, please check on our other VRBO 2 Bedroom properties in Cheyenne Canyon. They are 355183 and 466440. Both are lovely properties and your dates might still be open at one of them. We also have 499390, a four bedroom. two bath property and 407464, a fabulous 3 bedroom. two and a half bath property, both nearby in Cheyenne Canyon, as well. Thanks!

This adorable, light, bright approximately 1000 square foot two bedroom cottage has 'Old World' charm with knotty pine woodwork in much of the house. It is near miles of parks and open spaces and is the perfect spot to explore and experience all the wonders that Colorado Springs has to offer! 'The Canyon' was a small sleepy resort community in years gone by, one of only 2 canyons in Colorado Springs, The homes were mostly built in the 1920's and 1930's and were bungalows and cottages. As the years passed and people discovered this oasis, more homes were built.

Our cottage was built in 1951 & is located on a very quiet dead end street. It is the carriage house next to our house.

The cottage has 2 bedrooms, both on the 2nd floor. The large master bedroom is light and bright with many windows on both sides, overlooking trees & gardens. It has a queen sized bed with a Tempurpedic memory foam mattress and a 36' flat screen tv. It doesn't have a doorway, but has curtains for privacy. There is a half bath just for this bedroom. The other bedroom has 2 twin beds with memory foam mattresses and a 22' flat screen tv... It is a cozy 'a-frame' room built over the garage, perfect for kids. It is not dormered so watch your head. We also have a queen size pull out couch with a memory foam mattress which can be opened up in the living room, so we can accomodate up to six people in beds. The living room, eat-in kitchen and main bathroom are all on the first floor.

The living room is furnished with the sleeper sofa and two chairs. It isn't huge, but is cozy! There is a 40' High Definition Flat Screen TV in the Living room with full cable service, including, HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, etc. There is a dvd player with dozens of dvds to choose from. We are also set up for fast wireless internet access so you can sit outside in the lovely garden or in the private patio and surf the web.

The decor is contemporary with earth tones and oak hardwood floors throughout (no carpeting at all). There is a full eat-in kitchen with an oak table and chairs, flat top electric stove and a dishwasher. The cottage is stocked with many extra amenities including spices, paper towels, napkins, dishwashing detergent, laundry detergent, shampoo and conditioner! There are air-conditioners in both bedrooms and the living room (which cool the whole place), but summer evenings in Colorado tend to be cooler, so it cools down beautifully at night. Just open the windows.

The private fenced in patio area has a gas barbeque, as well as a patio table and chairs for al fresco dining.

One of the highlights of the property is the side garden, which has gorgeous roses, peonies, and lilies.. Feel free to enjoy your morning coffee in this oasis. This side garden is adjacent to our yard, and we do go into it as needed to weed and water and occasionally walk through. If you go into the garden, you may be greeted by our 2 Corgis, DeeDee and Dover (both rescues) who will welcome you... They're very friendly and would love to be petted and get to know you...

The property is a short five block walk to the Stratton Open Space Preserve where you can walk on miles of trails, enjoy wonderful hiking, biking and exploring. Walking westward towards the mountains along Cheyenne Blvd, is a lovely coffee shop, a nice place to stop for a capuccino or mocha before continuing on into Cheyenne Canyon Park and the Starsmore Discovery center (an educational nature center, great for children of all ages), with miles of hikes along Cheyenne Creek. If you drive into the canyon, the beauty will astound you! Seven Falls and Helen Hunt Falls are located right down the road a bit deeper into Cheyenne Canyon and both are incredibly beautiful For a shot of old world elegance, walk or drive to the five star Broadmoor hotel, an historic resort that is a wonderful place to go for a drink or a meal or just to walk around the gorgeous grounds!

We are less than ten minutes from historic Old Colorado City and fifteen minutes from exciting Manitou Springs with their wonderful restaurants, shopping, supermarkets and galleries. Garden of the Gods park, with its exquisite red rock formations, is a must see and it is less than 10 minutes away with a fantastic visitor's center. Downtown Colorado Springs is just a hop, skip and jump away, as well... The Air Force Academy is about 25 minutes north of us, and Colorado College is about 10 minutes away in the downtown area. The Olympic Training Center is east of us and less than a fifteen minute drive. There is also a beautiful zoo less than 10 minutes away. There are many fabulous day trips less than 2 hours from us, including the drive up Pikes Peak, marvellilng at the Royal Gorge, rafting on the Arkansas river, soaking in hotsprings, exploring Cave of the Winds, and visiting the Cliff-dwelling museum, all great entertainment for kids.

This property has off street parking for several cars and can also accomodate a medium sized RV.

About Mark Lowenherz

Pardon the corny photo from X-Mas last year at our daughter's house... We have 3 Corgi dogs of our own, all rescued from the Humane Society, and our daughter has a 4th Corgi, also a rescue... We take our 3 pups with us where-ever we can, and they love taking long hikes with us around the Cheyenne Canyon area. We have been married for close to 30 years. We lived in New York City for our first 35+ years, and have lived in Colorado for the past 18 years. We love it here! (You will too!)

Mark Lowenherz purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Mark Lowenherz chose Colorado Springs

We purchased this wonderful property because we wanted to share our love for Cheyenne Canyon with others... It is a country getaway right in the city. We had fallen in love with Cheyenne Canyon park and its miles and miles of hiking and biking trails and when this property came up for sale, we couldn't resist

What makes this cottage unique

This canyon is surrounded by open spaces. We have 3 Corgi dogs (all rescue dogs, adopted at the Colorado Springs Humane Society), and we take them hiking up into the surrounding parks and mountains. We love the proximity to all that Colorado Springs, Old Colorado City and Manitou have to offer, yet feel as though we are living in a mountain getaway, miles from civilization!

Cute cottage in Cheyenne Canyon

  • 4 of 5

This is an older, but cute cottage in a well located area in Colorado Springs. We were there at a hot time of year, but there are window air conditioners downstairs and in the bedrooms upstairs if you are home during the day. It cools off at night, so we preferred to have fresh air at night and open the windows. The owner's have a beautiful garden outside the front door of the cottage and they are fine with you sitting in it. There is a nice table there where we had breakfast every morning. There is also a table and chairs off the back of the cottage if you desire privacy. The owners are very nice and gracious, and very responsive is there is a problem. We really enjoyed our stay!

Lovely stay in Colorado Springs!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful visit to Colorado Springs over Memorial Day. The cottage had everything we needed and was in a great location close to all the sights. The owners were very helpful. We will be back to the cottage for another long weekend soon. It was clean and cozy. Thanks for a wonderful stay in your cottage.

Private and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 (including two teen boys) stayed at Mark's quaint carriage house 3 nights. Great experience! Even though you're in a residential neighborhood, we never heard any neighbors and the layout is extremely private. Easy, ample parking. Deer were right outside the kitchen window every morning. This little home lives big due to there being two stories, and it's well-stocked/equipped. Mark and his son Chris (who filled in when Mark was away) were both a pleasure to deal with. Couldn't get the DVD player to work, and it was fixed immediately after a phone call. Chris was spot-on with his recommendations for good, casual, family restaurants----both Front Range Barbecue (Southern BBQ with a great vibe-about 12 minutes away in Old Colorado City) and Panino's nearby for Italian. We already knew about Jake and Telly's (Greek) in Old Colorado City and had a great "date night" one night. (Their sauteed calamari is a must try!) We enjoyed the close proximity to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, hiking in Stratton Open Space, and taking a tour of historic Glen Eyrie Castle. Only downside was the master bedroom has a curtain instead of a solid door to close for privacy, but it really wasn't an issue for us. I actually liked the curtain! The side garden must be stunning in summer!

Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

A quaint and we'll stocked little home in a peaceful location. Great for our family of five. The location couldn't have been better. Lots of nearby hiking trails in Cheyenne Canyon, close to 7 Falls, and many attractions within easy driving distance.

Colorado Springs was more fun than I had expected. I was quite charmed by the area. Having a comfortable place to come back to at night with enough space to let the kids spread out was a bonus.

The kitchen was very well stocked. It was easy to cook meals or bake treats. Having the outdoor patio was a nice addition and we ate several meals outside. I would definitely recommend this cottage for your Colorado vacation.

Perfect get away!!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect get away for us before our son goes off to college. Each morning female mule deer greeted us...even our dog. Close to all we wanted to see & do! Quiet neighborhood & the private patio was great to hang out & grill & relax! Will book again! Thank for a great place to stay during our vacation!
