Loved the big quirky open space of the octagon house. The views were amazing.
The place is big and can accommodate quite a few people. The bedroom situation is rather sparse with only one true bedroom. The house looks like it has not been updated since 1973. I for one could appreciate the retro feel of it, although my wife’s parents, not so much. I thought the location central to town was a great selling point. More could be done to fix some plumbing issues and random carpentry issues. Overall the place is great for large parties, and Mountain views even if it could use a little TLC
The house was in such a perfect location to everything. Could use some updates, but overall great stay!
perfect house for sledding in and out of town
family had a great time. stayed in December. had great access to the trail system and great access to town. house sits on a cliff above town with some of the best views of the lakes I have seen. Home has a great open floorplan upstairs and accomidated our family of 5 great. though for the money definitely a great place to stay in the mountains with plenty of room for family and friends. read some reviews before we stayed here and we didn't expect brand new furnishings and though it worked great for us. we are outdoor lovers and the upper deck was fantastic in the morning and evenings. thanks again!
Lovin' Grand Lake
Loved this Grand Lake home! So close to so many amenities! Grand Lake, a quaint resort destination is just down the street. And the views.....spectacular! You can't get much better views than looking at Rocky Mountain National Park surrounding you and looking south towards Shadow Mountain Lake. The home was quite cozy, comfortable and had everything we required in a rental....home away from home. We have visited numerous VRBO homes over the past few years and this home could definitely use some upgrades, but for our money, the value was there. It was clean, well stocked and accommodated our family perfectly. We would definitely come back, most likely this time in the winter....we hear the snowmobiling and the ice fishing in the area are some of the best!
Good Location, House Needs Work
I'm not sure where the other reviewers stayed, but my experience was different.
Interesting place, almost feels like a yurt inside, over two levels. The house is large, but only has two sleeping areas and actual beds other than couches, and the mattresses were really soft and old. Furniture and fixtures are mostly outdated or antique. Remodeled 'master' bath has serious water intrusion issues, possibly from leaking skylights, resulting in water damaged sheetrock, bubbling paint, and black mold issue (can be seen under the paint where peeled) which causes even the clean towels to smell funky and triggered my allergies. Electrical seems to have been done by amateurs, with switches difficult to locate for lights throughout, which the owner acknowledged at check in time. Only some of the windows have screens and there is no AC, so house gets quite warm in late afternoon. Catwalk leading from parking area to house should have some type of exterior lighting, which it didn't, and as a result it seemed like a safety hazard. Felt like a rental that the owner must never actually stay in, but rather just an income property.
Also, maybe if you advertise as pet friendly, let us know that there are open containers of mouse poison under the beds; our dog ate the entire container before we busted him, and we had to induce vomiting... (he was okay luckily, since we caught it quickly).
Overall, the place seems like it has potential, but also has a lot of deferred maintenance items which need to be addressed before I would stay here again, and I question the safety of several aspects of the property.
Awesome House for our Weekend Trip
This house was a perfect spot for our Weekend in Grand Lake. As we pulled in there was a moose in the driveway! She hung out for several hours right next to the deck. The house was very clean and we were very pleased with everything. We wanted to just hang out, cook food and watch basketball. Both living rooms have nice Large TV's and lots of space. The deck was also a great spot to hang out all day and take in the view. The grill was clean and large enough to grill meat and fish for 6 people. It's a very quick walk to restaurants as well. We will be back!
Located 2 miles from Trailridge Road (the western entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park). Wonderful place to photograph wildlife. Hiking, hunting and fishing haven.
