About the Property
Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 11-13)
Still Waters is a traditional Nantucket beach cottage, with a ~100 foot private beach on Madaket Harbor and an unobstructed view of the village of Madaket, Smith Point, Madaket Harbor, Eel Point, and Tuckernuck Island. On a clear day, you can even see Muskeget Island from the porch off the large attic.
Our cottage is very private and quiet - tucked in a grove of tall pines, bordering on about 15 acres of conservation land to the south, and with 123 acres of conservation land (Eel Point) just about 1/4 mile up the beach to the north. Eel Point is a refuge to American oyster catchers, piping plovers, and countless herons, egrets, sandpipers, terns, and seagulls.
After a day of swimming, biking, or hiking, watch the sun set from the porch or the balcony off the attic, and curl up by the fireplace with a good book, or play one of our many 'vintage' board games with your loved ones. You can also check your email (Wi-fi access to Internet), watch a DVD or your favorite program on TV.
And at bedtime, you can fall asleep, lulled by the gentle sound of the surf on Madaket beach about 2 miles away. You can sleep downstairs in a queen bed or one of four twin beds, or climb the steps to the attic with a double bed, 3 more twin beds, and a crib (if you are very small).

Year Purchased: 1947
About: I am a teacher at Middlesex Community College, and grew up coming to our beloved Still Waters cottage in the summer with my parents, brothers, grandparents, cousins, and assorted family dogs. Now my husband and I come each year in early June with to open up the cottage, and enjoy the early season roses and the peace and quiet.
Why Eel Point, Nantucket, MA, USA:
Our cottage was bought in 1947 by my grandparents who had been renting on Cuttyhunk Island and then Nantucket in the 1930's and early 40's. When they saw our cottage, they fell in love with it instantly, managed to scrape the money together to buy it, and named it 'Still Waters'. Now the property is owned and much loved by their grandchildren as a family partnership, so it has been in same family for almost 70 years.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Each morning we walk up the beach to fish, collect new shells washed up by the night tide, and watch the birds on the Eel Point conservation land, which seems to get more beautiful each year. Our dog Jessie loves to join the seagulls for a swim.
