The Surf Shack cabin is the ultimate in Yurt style outdoor living. Sitting on top of an Ocean Front Cliff with unobstructed views of Yaquina Head Lighthouse, Otter Rock & Devils Punch bowl, views do not get better than this. The small, one-room cabin sits on a dead end road and is the most quiet place you will find. A futon bed provides a very comfortable place to lay your head and hear nothing but the ocean. The covered deck provides a beautiful outdoor living space complete with, love seat and chairs as well as an indoor/outdoor carpet and comfy outdoor furniture cushions. There are canvas panels on all sides of the covered deck, which can be lowered to protect against wind & rain in the case of any wet weather. The private Ocean View Hot Tub creates an escape from your life in the real world. A gas grill is provided as well as dishes, pots, etc... The bathroom facilities consist of a composting toilet (warning: these do have a smell, that is why we put it in its own building), hot shower and sink. All guests will be provided eco friendly toilet paper, biodegradable soap /shampoo and instructions on operating these off the grid appliances. The large yard also includes a shared/community fire pit and hammock. Two off street parking spaces are also provided. !!MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY IS 2 PEOPLE/NO GUESTS OR VISITORS PLEASE!!

About Daniel Hasselschwert
We truly believe Otter Rock is a little slice of heaven on earth, come and visit and you will see why we feel this way.
Daniel Hasselschwert purchased this Cabin in 2004
Why Daniel Hasselschwert chose Otter Rock
This is the most beautiful place on the planet, seriously. Add in the fact that it is quiet, private, out of the wind and a lot sunnier and warmer than most places on the Oregon coast and you will see for your self this place is amazing.
What makes this Cabin unique
Watching the surfers, kayakers, whales and all that happens on the beach from your comfortable perch up above. Or a short walk to join them!
Pool / Spa
Sports & Adventure Activities
Great view and very nice hot tub.
Bed was comfy, hot tub was super nice veiw is excellent. This place is kinda like camping except with a hot tub. Best of both worlds. My only complaint is I was under the empression this place is very private. The house across the street has bay windows that look directly at the bathroom door, and I could see ppl looking out off and on the whole time. So it didnt feel real private. The shower was a bit tricky but we worked it out. When staying here plan for more of a camping style trip, dont bring a lot of things u will want to plug in. Which was fine for us, your not going to be sitting on a couch watching tv. We enjoyed campfire, hot tub and lots of places to hike.
Bedding smelled dirty and bed was uncomfortable and bathroom smelled so bad that it made me gag.
Tough to stay in the cabin. I almost stayed in my rig.
Amazing view to watch whales pass by from your hot tub! Out side cooking was a lot of fun!
Great location! Would stay there again😀
The views from the lawn are spectacular. The hottub was also great. Unfortunately, the entire building and the 15 feet sourrounding it were permeated by an overwhelming and overpowering poop smell from that compost toilet.
I pondered this for some time...
Positives - location is awesome, great launching point to north and south locations. Walking distance to the beach at Devils Punchbowl and as a surfer you couldn't ask for a better location.
Pondering thoughts - I don't surf anymore but wanted a beach weekend with my dogs. No where in what I read did I discover that this property is on a dangerous cliff and my dogs had to be tethered the entire time to secure their safety. Sheer drop off that I would have liked to have been made aware of.
- I was there on a freakishly hot weekend and realized 2 things - enclosed bedroom doesn't have great ventilation or any kind or relationship with the beauty of the location. Close the door and you're out of nature. Second downfall is the door/main wall to the bath area is in direct sunlight for the majority of the day. Severe heat and a composting toilet made for a bad combination. Keep in mind this was an anomaly but it could happen to you. Just be flexible. It was so abnormally hot that Saturday I had load us all in the car to take advantage of the AC and look for some moving air at the state beaches!
- I mentally told myself to take a beach chair, a lantern and a fan and forgot each so I can't fault the limited supplies after reading the reviews. Due to lack of light after sundown I tried the TV, not that I wanted to watch it, but got kind of bored after the sun went down (I had very spotty and limited Wi-Fi connection on my iPad, no equipment to set up outside, I was tied to the dogs since I couldn't leave them untethered or in the hot room to go into town given there was a surprising lack of places we could all go and eat outside, remember freakish heat)...
- Overall, I'm conflicted on my feelings on this stay. I really wanted a place where my dogs were able to 'be free' at a private spot. Wasn't here. The heat made the bathroom really an unholy mess. Again, record breaking so take that into account. The owner was very responsive. I forgot some things I should have brought along, my bad. Neighbors were nice enough, I met a couple. But I would say you have a fabulous overall location when you are in the middle of a super popular weekend and have access to private parking and a fabulous beach within walking distance. Figure out your priorities...I would consider doing it again if the weather wasn't so extreme for my goals, and my dogs stayed at home.
this place is simple, but great. cannot beat the view. one of the most relaxing nights sleep I've had in some time.
Fish, crab, kayak, surf, walk/run & agate hunt on the 3+ miles of sandy beach right out front!
