Overview

About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 5 adults)

Come on up and enjoy the view of Sierra Blanca and surrounding peaks. The Sierra Vista Heights Cabin is located on the top of a mountain ridge on a cul-de-sac next to the Lincoln National Forest, giving it a secluded feel, yet it is just minutes from the Ruidoso shops and only 17 miles from Ski Apache. Perfect for one or two couples, or a small family. Enjoy a meal or your morning coffee on the deck or watch the sun set behind Sierra Blanca. Shopping in the quaint Ruidoso shops is just 4-5 minutes away by car. The Cabin is a great place to just relax and enjoy the view from the deck!

Inside, the cabin has two living areas with paneling and wood trim throughout. The large living room has a wood burning stove, sofa, the main dining table and two day beds. The adjoining den has two rocker/recliners, a small sofa, flat screen with cable TV service, movie channels, and a DVD player with stereo/surround sound! Families enjoy this layout -- the adults can chat around the dinner table (in the living room) or on the deck while the kids play games or watch TV or a movie in the den.

Bedrooms: The large master bedroom with king-size bed has a picture window with views of Sierra Blanca and a door to the deck. The cozy second bedroom with a queen bed has built-in closets and drawers, and cable TV with movie channels. The kids' size third bedroom has a double bed with built-in closets and cabinets that kids enjoy putting their toys in. Please note that the two back bedrooms, bath, and den are in a quaint mobile home with high-quality wall and ceiling paneling and built-ins! Note also that the way the rooms are arranged you need to walk through the kids' bedroom (or the master) to access the second bedroom. (Please see video tour for more interior pictures.)

If you're looking for a fancy condo or 'upscale' house please select another listing. The Sierra Vista Heights Cabin is a clean, well-maintained, and tobacco-free mountain-top cabin that's 5 feet from the Lincoln National Forest yet minutes from the Ruidoso shops and 17 miles from Ski Apache. If your looking for a mountain cabin for a price that's little more than a hotel, you've found your vacation home!

Notes: During winter months, chains or 4-WD is recommended and may be necessary to access the Cabin if the roads are snow covered or icy! During the summer, given the very dry climate during much of the hot weather, we have opted for evaporative cooling.

About Gregory Mumma

We live in Lubbock, TX and started coming to Ruidoso about 20 years ago for the skiing! We liked Ruidoso so much we bought the cabin 15 years ago. I worked weekends for the Ski Apache Ski School for a number of years then focused on teaching my kids to ski. My kids were on Ruidoso Sierra Blanca Ski Team for three years (we now train with the Santa Fe Ski Team, so the Cabin is available for rental during the winter season). We'd like to share our love of the mountains with you!

Million dollar view from the back deck!

  • 4 of 5

The view from the back deck is incredible and it's in a very peaceful, quiet area of a neighborhood. The location is only 2-3 minutes from a grocery store, and only 4-5 minutes from the great restaurants in the best parts of Ruidoso. I think it was a good value for the amount charged, and the owner was responsive, helpful, and kind.

There were numerous deer around the property, and we even had the thrill of seeing a small black bear roaming in the forest behind the cabin! That was really cool.

Million Dollar View

  • 4 of 5

The view was spectacular! We had our morning coffee out on the deck every morning. After lunch on most days, we watched a rain cloud approaching from over the mountain, and then the rain! We are fairly healthy seniors ,but the added elevation above the village was somewhat of a problem. It was difficult unloading and reloading the the car. The cabin itself was adequate. The entire experience was well worth the trip.

Nice, clean and comfortable. Fantastic view and location!

  • 5 of 5

If you demand 5-star accomodation, this is not it. If you are looking for a nice, clean and cozy place to hang out with friends and/ or family, this is it! Incredible view from deck! Lots of wild life to see. Deer eating from your hands, wild horses. Hummingbirds!!! Great hiking right their. Though it has a pretty secluded feel, it is minutes from all the fun things Ruidoso offers. As long as your expectations are aligned, I highly recommend this place. Also, the owner is extremely nice and very responsive and accommodating!!!!

Owner very nice and agreeable. Views fantastic. Everything else was disappointing. TV had wavy lines. Felt like just what it was- an older double wide mobile home.

Owner's Response: Well, this is a surprise. When I checked in with this person via email on the evening she arrived she responded "everything is fine". Although clearly knowing how to contact me, no efforts were made to contact me about these issues, all of which could have been readily corrected and were not mentioned by subsequent guests. This review is factually inaccurate -- the cabin is not a doublewide, it consists of a quaint mobile home with hardwood ceilings and lots of built ins plus a large master BR and living room built on site at the top of this ridge. Please read the description of the Cabin before booking!

Exceeded our expectations

  • 5 of 5

We had a 5 star experience at this cabin. We enjoyed the view and close proximity to the Lincoln national forest. Be sure to bring feed for the deer because they are at the cabin daily ready to eat from your hand. We had everything we needed...pots and pans, dishes, A+ wifi, Tv with blu ray player and surround sound, BBQ pit with gas. I was worried about the swamp cooler in July but it was not an issue. We stayed cool and comfortable. There is a keurig if you want to bring k-cups (also a standard coffee pot).

We had great communication with the owner from start to finish. They give good advice and instructions for your stay. We will book this property again, thank you!

Comfortable cabin with amazing views

  • 4 of 5

What a beautiful location! It can't be said enough how beautiful the view is from the deck. We enjoyed our evenings hanging out on the deck. The kids really enjoyed it and were just amazed that the deer came right up to them for treats. When I saw photos and reviews about the deer coming right up to people I knew this was the place for us. Being city folks our grand kids don't get to experience that type of thing. It was definitely a highlight of the trip. The cabin was comfortable and we enjoyed hanging out on the deck as well as sitting in the den watching movies in the evening. We used our GPS getting to the cabin and it took us right to the driveway. Any issues we had were addressed with the owner and responded to in a timely manner.
