Enjoy NEW $3000 Temperpedic Queen mattress! in our Historic Conversion of an r2 garage to demanded granny flats in years past for La Jolla Playhouse. for the beach houses walking distance to beach were houses owned for summer by the wealthier residents on top of the hill in the Muirlands LJ. We were close to the La jolla playhouse and they asked the original owners in 1956 to covert the garage to a studio cottage/granny flat. Since then its historic original property date with the house and cottage combination original structure built in 1926 and later owned by Famous La Jolla light writers of local newspaper. Liza and Mike bought this in 1996 and in 2000 upgraded the cottage studio here that had had work done several time over the decade to the cute funky beach art deco historic cottage it is now. The main attractor of this cottage is LOCATION and ease of walking to all. It is not large and is an efficient unit and not luxury but more a beach feeling with lots of spanish flair and color with newer furnishings the owner bought over the last few years to make it homey and continue to rent it as a vacant rental since 2001. It is Blue Adobe Spanish Stand Alone Guest House or 4th bedroom to house. converted garage before 1956 with its own Fenced and private

tropical yard patio lot- Studio Cottage. Most studios do not have

their own stand alone house, this does! cottage has skylight

and french door and windows allowing you to look out into the garden

and or dine and bbq outside, One side of the property has a four foot adobe wall next to my other larger vacation rental property, its on a double r 2 lot, separated and farther away from my second house than neighors are to each other. It is a courtyard entrance with lots of plants entering from a shared access driveway. The east side of the courtyard has some bamboo and plants now drought resistant. Close to the beach in the beach but is not fenced in except on two sides. The village space is at a premium yet this cottage is quiet for being two blocks to the top ten beach in the US, Parking is out street front at the end of a triple long driveway so you are set back a ways from main street and the second house is street front. Any pets must be registered paid for and accepted by owner with approval confirmation of pet polices and conditions. There are owner occupied neighors with dogs so it must be compatible to neighborhood conditions to be accepted. We are pet animal lovers and bring out two yorkies when we vacation here in our own home, but we do not leave inside unattended for hours and there is no yard, if you want a yard rent my house next door,. Barking is not permitted in close beach patio owner occupied homes are around you amongst also several vacation rentals on each side. Therefore please meet other great travelers and can enjoy a similar atmosphere yet the privacy and peace of a family neighborhood at large please be kind to our professional neighbors.. Ammenities: Wood stove fireplace, Kitchennette with granite counter, multiple cabinets, 2 burner stove top, microwave, appliances, blender, coffee maker, hot pot,toaster oven, nu wave cooktop with pots and pans designed for it..

Shower, and bath with double sinks, living room area has IKEA bed sleeper mattress couch.

As this home is historice it has been lovingly refurbished and at any given time we may be adding new items each month, and have remodeled but as a historic home its a continual upkeep in progress. IT is charming but may have some nuances that any home or particularly and older home built in 1926 would have. We have replaced all fixtures and the cottage has been remodeled in 1956 and 2001 as well as we paint inside often and add art and new furnishings every 3-5 years to keep it updated. Stucco Spanish building period of Baja California. Wood stove only 10 years old installed that keeps it warm in winter along with room large heaters that keep it more than toasty but no central heat, however its not needed with the heat we have and can get even too hot with the fireplace in the wood stove going. Summers are hotter every year and summers were once 70 to 75 are not 85 and we have an AC for the one window in the bathroom that is ten feet from the bed to cool you or big fans and a front door that you can close the screen from the inside and run fans across, Of course it is cooler than most places but in summer it can be humid so if you come from dry it can seem warm due to moisture at the beach. SAme with winter, we have no mold but it can be a baggy effect in winter if we get fog and rain and clouds on occasion one week and the next week like summer. For that the wood stove drys out any moisture. If you have arthritis or sensitive to older homes that can be musty if closed up for a day or two but air out immediately but you have sensitivity to dampness it might not be right for you from Xmas to March , as it does get damp cold and one has to run the wood stove to make it dry and not cooler, as we have marble floors , however they are clean and great for keeping things cool in summer and in winter they are great if you do heat with the woods stove and we have some throw rugs here and there. It really is a beautiful floor for a cottage, and its a stand alone unit, you step outside, no condo upstairs and its own unit which is rare for 99 to 199 a night peak times, and unheard of low price in low times as one room motels that are 100years old down the street and are not pretty are 100 a night, so overall the cottage is extra fairly priced and we stay booked all year due to low pricing for low seasons and low pricing for summer for the area, If you can afford the starter purchase rates at the beach of 1.5 to 1.7 million to buy these homes, that are original beach bungalow size the next best thing is to rent one for a trip and pay no fees of homowners costs. Due to the historicness of keeping the structure but adding upgrades there may be some slow hot water in the tub or say an older Spanish look outside but its unique and charming but not a track new home. So please no nit picking over the age or size or artistry, and if a bug happens to come in as we are at ground level and do have pest control with choice of chemicals or bug essential oils from a certified company but we don't over spray due to pets and kids that may be crawling around outside in the courtyard. Also sand can be tracked in if you don't take shoes off outside and stick to your feet but we provide brooms for a beautiful floor that can be cleaned easily compared to an old floor. We have had very gracious guests and occasionally if someone is very concerned about perfection they might not like older homes so we suggest your realize that before coming and be okay with it. WE don't give refunds if a bug shows up and we have to have a second treatment or the last person forgot to take the outside trash bin to the curbe so there might be a bag of trash in the outside container not on your courtyard but in the driveway, we ask our renters to put out trash Monday by 7am but sometimes they forget . WE do provide trash bags starter packs and indoor trash cans, dish soap, and cotton hand towels and sponge. Bring your own shampoos and soaps as everyone is scent sitive in their own ways and being real estate we have more moving parts than a motel, so we do our best. A bbq is included outside and needs small green propane tanks that run 2 for 15 or $5 as wal mart and there is usualy one on the grill but if it runs out tenants are to pick up at the grocery store one mile away as we cannot control the grill at all times fyi. Please clean grills as you would the stove also or maids charge extra on deposits. If its not clean let us know so we can charge the previous tenants and please do your best and we will work to improve every week but on occasion when things aren't perfect go easy on as this is a one star price for a four star rental and we are home owners with basic staff of maid and gardner and contractors but no on site staff 24/7 so some things we can only attend to if you see them and notify us but they are not reason for refunds for weather, hot or cold and bug or mouse on rare rare occasion but can happened being at ground level and no mold complaints as its not moldy we have cleaned it but if it has an area that needs to be cleaned let us know and we will take care of it. It might smell musty if it is a damp day and closed up for a few days before arrival but it doesn not have bad mold and everyone is southern calfifornia beach properties has to fight wet shower curtains building up in one day so realize the ennvironement, , keep it clean while there and appreciate the price of a beach vacation that is affordable but not buyable for the price, we love to entertain as a rental but are not on hotel concierge levels. We can stop by on Monday, Thursday or Saturday for basics if you need anything unless its urgent we call our handyman. We live two hour round trip away so you have your privacy but call or email questions or concerns.

Internet is on site and should be posted in your hospitality section of VRBO homeaway, text me if you cant find it. WE have dish cable tv with HBO as well as all basic 50 channels and pay 100 a month for a big package but not the largest at 150. Its pretty good and no complaints if you have to have a certain station let us know and we can see the pricing for you before you are here.

Hope this helps with your decision and charm and nuances of the beach barber tract historic homes , some refurbished here on this block and some all new re done but most reantals are not the brand new ones, However it is amazing area, come on down! see you at the beach.

What makes this cottage unique

Everthing you can can want on vacation and never need a car. Walk to Top Ten beaches in the world wind n Sea, as well as shops

and restaurants, spa and gym 11 houses away, but be in a quite tropical neighborhood with a yard

where they are hard to come by. Walk 3 houses to La Jolla scenic trail and park, the beach 1500 feet from our door is enjoyable walkable. Or head north 10 minutes walk to the downtown entertainment of fine restaurants, art galleries and the world famous cove. The olympic community is only 5 houses away and our year round temperature average is 66 to 72 degrees, warming up in summer to the mid 70s. maybe peaking at low 80's. Enjoy all that the JEWEL of La Jolla has to offer being in the heart of the village at our Wind N Sea Beach house and Optional

cottage next door.

This is a nicely converted former garage in a beautiful and very quiet residential neighborhood - no traffic noise at all, but walk to shops and restaurants. One block to bike path. There is a lovely patio with a big round table and umbrella outside, and a table and chairs for 6 inside. There is an efficiency kitchen - lots of storage, big (sometimes noisy) fridge, NU Wave stove burner, electric grille, BBQ outdoors, and small microwave, but you could serve 6 for dinner if you had friends in SD you wanted to impress. There is a washer/dryer shared with the main house. The bed was large and comfortable. We had no problem with the electronics (Dish TV and wifi). On the downside, there is no shade on the skylight which is above the bed. It didn't bother us as early risers, but we thought the eyeshades provided would not work for some visitors. Also, the only cross ventilation available required leaving the front door open because the only operable window was in the bathroom. (The north facing front is all glass, but those windows don't open). This was only an issue on a couple of particularly warm days. Note that there are 3 Bonairs (Place, Street and Way) in La Jolla and Bonair Street is the middle one The street number is hidden behind a palm tree, but this is the 2nd house west of Draper on the south side of the street. In the picture the yellow door leads to the washer and dryer, the multipane glass with yellow trim is the front of the unit and the patio is beyond the gate in the garden wall.

stand alone smaller but private and quite set back cottage converted granny flat from historic home built in 1926 remodeled to a granny flat in 1956, remodeled in 60s by La jolla light owners and re done in 2000. Its funky artsy crafts adobe mix of original structure and some new areas like recessed lights, granite counters and marble floors and fairly nice bathroom for a cottage, bigger and vanity sinks for 2, shower tub combination, has a courtyard and lots of plants.

Perfect cottage with everything necessary for a quiet, relaxing SD getaway

Extremely quiet neighborhood. Studio cottage has more amenities than a hotel room without hearing or bumping into other guests and neighbors. I was on foot my entire stay, within a few blocks walk there is beach access for surfing, swimming, tanning, walking etc. also a few bars for the occasional libation or pool game as well as a 24 hour convenience store and 24 hour Mexican restaurant

In any direction you travel from the cottage there are places to hike and explore. I visited Windandsea, La Jolla Shores, Bird Rock, Pacific Beach & LJHS football stadium to watch a few games...all individually charming and exciting.

The owners of the property are wonderful people that absolutely made sure my stay was comfortable and full of enjoyment. I will definitely stay in the cottage on my next visit to SD!

We enjoyed the outdoor space and amenities of the cottage. We would enjoy more lighting as the cottage was a little dark especially in the evening,and a better fan for air circulation. (It was unusually hot during our visit in La Jolla!). The decor and paintings were very nice, kitchen well equipped for a small space, and the bed very comfortable. It was very nice to have off street parking in the driveway though on street parking was easy as well. We weren't able to access the washer and dryer as we didn't have the code for the lock. Otherwise we were quite happy with our choice of property! Thanks!

Beautiful, peaceful, perfect

Me and my family loved staying at this cottage. It was clean, beautiful décor, very homey. There was 5 of us staying there and there was always plenty of hot water. Liza had plenty of bedding, towels, anything we needed she was very accommodating and she made sure our stay was grand. I love the landscaping, the yard is beautiful. The beach is close, many restaurants to choose from. I will definitely recommend this darling cottage to everyone who wants to go to La Jolla

Jill knows what it means to appreciate life and taking a vacation with her family. She is very conscientious and clean and so is everyone with her! they left the place cleaner than a one person booking. If all my guests where this quiet yet happy and enjoyable to be around I htink they would bring up the vibe of our neighborhood regarding having vacationers next door to owner occupied homes. The spread joy whever they go and that is a gitt they brought to us being here. Easy going and love life and appreciate our beach cottage. We have a 3 bed 2bath next door and when I offered it to Jill since they had 5 people for the studio, she said we travel well together and know how to get along. That they did! thanks and you are welcome back anytime!

WALK TO BEST BEACH and VILLAGE FOR EVERY THING!

We always wanted to live this close to a white sand beach and having been to hawaii and Tahiti surfing my wife and I can say this beach is SO BEAUTIFUL right here in USA at home. We live inland in the heat of summer 110 to 115 in Palm Desert and we just cant understand why some people have no CLUE about how nice the weather is at the beach at 75 degrees in summer! even if it gets to 80 the room fan is enough we barely used the AC as it made us cooler than needed.

We love this place, travertine floors are beautiful and clean nice to sweep up beach sand and have a dog lay on a nice cool floor while we dont feel like dingy carpet. The colorful artwork by famous owner and the walls are foe painted make it beach baja upgraded. The owners gave us privacy but were very easy to work with. We walked only houses to eat the best mexican food around and a park is just a few houses away for our kids to swingset and play.

The courtyard although not a yard has lots of plants and a bbq and nice table for us to dine out or inside their are all the appliances needed and a new cooktop they showed us to use called nu wave, has temperature settings. We stayed her twice before over the last few years to get the price price in town for a super nice cottage with quiet and peace. I wouldn't come here if you are noisy, we could here a pin drop at night and even the waves with the screen door open. Very Clean, pretty and peaceful. We had double sinks so my wife was happy to not have to share everything with me and the cable tv was a score along with nice wood furniture, lots of dressers and storage, added since we were last here so we are coming for a week during high surf in January again. The owners have taken some bad wrap for people who dont know the beach scene and we have rented some cottages around and this is its own little house, the motel down the street is double the price and 1/2 the size and no kitchen or yard, so we dont stay there anymore. Thanks Liza and Mike for a place you put your heart into. Dont let anyone knock it, they must be from New York if they do and not understand the beach and village vs skyscrapers and city life, this is a mix of Italy feeling and beach bungalow, tropical yet cooler and easy to get to anything without a car. Even a farmers market and fresh local fish. Enjoy if you come here, dont complain, its a nice tight neighborhood, you wont find a better price for a studio cottage walking distance to wind n sea beach and all.

Not for everyone, proceed with caution

Our impression from the pictures was of a cozy retreat in the heart of the Windansea community a few blocks from a very nice beach. That was the most attractive of the features. The location is a good one, just a short drive away from 'downtown' La Jolla.

Now, the pictures are a bit misleading. To start off with, the picture of the front is angled from the main house backyard. When seen from the actual entrance, which is a driveway, it appears in some disrepair. No plants (alive), and a facade that could use a touch up.

Upon entering, you notice that the pictures from the listing show the warm, bright colors the place is decorated with. The main issue is, everything is showing its age, and an upgrade to either properly maintained vintage or newer finishing are required urgently.

Surfaces were worn and didn't look like they belonged in a place where you'd invite guests into. At least it was clean. The bedding itself was not what we were expecting. The mattress consisted of a dual set of fullsize cushions piled on top of one another. They were not rock hard. You sank into them instead. A matter of personal taste, apparently.

The air conditioning was improvised into a window in the bathroom. It's there, which is saying something, but it rattles when cooling and is very noticeable all the way into the bedroom (and it takes a while to cool the area). A gap in the window there was stuffed shut with a crumpled towel. The bathroom itself looks less than appealing and a bit cramped. At least, again, it was clean.

Overall, a very disappointing find. Normally, you might consider this a bargain you can live with, but at a premium rate for the high season it's much more reasonable to find a boutique hotel in downtown La Jolla and you get full service for a better price. A refund will not be forthcoming, because regardless of your dissatisfaction, once you book, you're stuck with it. Proceed with caution.

Owner's Response: For a Happy go lucky, Pottery barn look, with a studio cottage size vs a large house, this property is not New York hampdens, we are california coast beach and the neighborhood is historic from 1926. I think on occasion its either someone new to beach and its housing which is very eclectic and each property completely different, no uniform track layouts but the beauty of the beach weather and lifestyle is social and smaller houses being a village atmosphere. This was coercion for a refund there is nothing wrong with the cottage, nor is the furniture old in fact it is hardwood butcher block table with matching bed and dresser, lots of expensive art beach work and expensive foe finished wallls for a smaller unit on a lower pricing for the area as we love to share our cottage. The AC was a special request and keeps the place cool. The decor is up to date only a few years old with GRANITE counter, not sure what more. Marble new travertine floors. We have recentaly completely landscaped with drought resistant plants. I am not sure why anyone would leave if its a good price, even in summer unless something else happened the decor, is not ever been complained about been on vrbo since 2005. Well every now and then someone has a reason, but we know its a studio and the location is fantastic and for the price any season only 100 to 175 is low for a stand alone unit , no step, no attached house and walk to beach in minutes along with shops and restaurants, and park. No crumpled towel, a one time thing due to the AC had some moisture, but not like it is not removable. The second bed is an IKEA mattress that is a couch also, so its really really comfortable and we could replace it, its not brand new but its not old, the style is basic but rather than have a couch with a bar in the mattress this bed/'couch number 2 has provided so much sleeping comfort we keep it on and its appreicated you will see. The colors are not faded. seems like an extremely different response than our usual, well you cannot be perfect but its pretty nice. Please join us. You will like the wood furnishings, reall wood, not press board. Something that endures and is only 5 years old.
