At the end of the rainbow we designed, built, and completed our French Country style dream house in 2010 called A and H Wildflower Ranch. We have a sunny custom kitchen with lots of counter space and an open floor plan to the main living area and dining area, 2 master bedrooms that have either a patio or balcony, an additional bedroom with attached bathroom, an office, and atrium sun room. There are doors from all rooms leading to the exterior patios and decks that surround our home.
We have an inviting and open floor plan that provides lots of sunlight. The many windows throughout our home allow you to enjoy the spectacular views of Mt. Sopris, the 31 acres of open-space which includes a pond, the Roaring Fork River, as well as the Flattops Wilderness Area north of Glenwood Springs. Not only can you enjoy the views from the interior, but you can also relax outdoors while watching and listening to wildlife, birds, the stream, or consider the night sky from decks and flagstone patios that surround our home. Inside, there are little nooks with cozy spots for relaxing with a cup of coffee or glass of wine and a good book. We have an eclectic collection of books for browsing or reading and an assortment of games. Our custom kitchen has ample room for preparing, cooking, and visiting. Due to our stone and stucco exterior, the house remains comfortably cool even in the heat of summer without a swamp cooler, although we have ceiling fans in many rooms.
We are located halfway between Glenwood Springs and Carbondale. Our neighborhood consists of acreages with most of our neighbors owning horses. This creates a peaceful country feel to our property. Our central location makes this a perfect place to stay allowing you to explore up and down the valleys, no matter your vacation preferences. There is something for everyone here in the heart of the Rockies. Clay is a designer and builder. Cindy is an art teacher. We love to work, play and enjoy family and friends with our dog Ernie. We spend a lot of time outdoors gardening, hiking, camping, wildlife watching, swimming, kayaking, snow shoeing, cross-country skiing, hunting and star gazing. We have thought about moving, but we love this area with the sunshine and climate too much to seriously consider going elsewhere. We prefer to invite family and friends to come and stay here instead. We decided to move into a lock-off apartment above the garage when circumstances changed our original plans. This allows us to continue adding to our property. As you may be able to guess, 7 acres doesn't take care of itself! We thoroughly enjoy planting seeds and trees in hopes that we will have a wonderful orchard one day.
Why Owner chose Glenwood Springs
We bought this property in 2006 and designed and built our dream home on the 7 acres. We completed the building in 2010. We fell in love with this property as we walked the open-space and down to the pond and Roaring Fork River. We love the views from this end of the 7 acres. We are outdoor loving people and we have found ourselves within easy distance of a huge diversity of outdoor experiences year round. We are pass holders at the world famous Glenwood Hot Springs and know why the Utes called it Yampah or 'Big Medicine'. We like that we are approximately 10 minutes away. We placed the house on the edge of the open-space to maximize the views and the water feature. We have a stream running down in front of the south side of the house that provides a wildlife corridor year round. We have a wide variety of birds that live and eat here. We also enjoy the many species of mammals, such as, fox, deer, elk, bobcat, chipmunk, and rabbit just to name a few, that use this corridor.
What makes this House unique
We have a fabulous view of Mt. Sopris. In addition, we have a trail that circles the whole subdivision. A section of the trail runs alongside the Roaring Fork River where you can walk, run, fish, skip rocks, enjoy watching the blue herons in their rookery, the nesting pair of ospreys, or the elk and deer that winter along the river. There is a pond with a variety of waterfowl depending on the time of year you are here. You can walk, cross-country ski or snowshoe along the trail. In addition, we are 3 miles from the Rio Grande bike trail that follows the old RR tracks up and down the Roaring Fork Valley. This bike trail begins in Glenwood Springs and continues all the way to Aspen.

Wonderful house, Wonderful weekend
Very relaxing setting. Lovely house for the 6 of us. The owners lived above the garage while we were there but you wouldn't know they were there!
Very well equipped house, warm and comfortable.
Would benefit from curtains in the downstairs room, but it's so dark at night that our 15 yo never complained. The upstairs master needs a curtain across the top part of the window, but again there were no complaints from those who slept there.
We would be very happy to return at a later date.
We really enjoyed our stay! Every bedroom has it's own bathroom, big spacious kitchen, wonderful patio, we had a few deers wondering outside our bedroom window. Nice DVD collection as well, after a long day skiing we enjoyed a nice cozy staying in.
Definitely recommend for a big group, as there are two master bedrooms, and two other rooms
Thanks again for a great stay!
The grounds were beautiful!!! Truly lived up to its name
The house was spacious and comfortable. Perfect for our girls weekend of 6. Plenty of sleeping and bathroom space !! Nice big kitchen to prepare meals in. Spacious dining room and living room and a beautiful outdoor space too.
Unique cozy home.
Enjoyed our week-end at this very unique home. Was large enough for our group of 8 with plenty of beds and bathrooms, yet small enough that we were close and enjoyed each others company. The owners, Cindy and Clay were very welcoming and acquainted us with the property the first day. You can see the pride and the thought that went into building this home. Would enjoy going there again!
Had a great time.
A fun, eclectic home. We all loved the nooks & side spaces as well as the wonderful large master suites and very spacious kitchen. It was perfect for our group. Cindy was a gracious host.
Serene, beautiful and comfortable
We visited end of May for 5 days. It was always a toss up whether to stay and enjoy the house or take in the surrounding sights. I would have given 5 stars if the house was wheelchair friendly but since i have a handicapped father I'm the particularly sensitive to accessibility issues like split level flooring. Other than that, it is a big, bright, roomy house with lots of reading nooks. Lots of movies and books. The heart of the house is an airy and fully equipped kitchen. Washer and dryers in each floor. So much thought has been put in to make this a comfortable stay. The views are beautiful and include the majestic mt sopris. The nice owners are on-site but with both working, you barely know they are there since they have their own entrance to their apartment over the garage. But if you need them they are friendly and helpful. They have also made ample maps and brochures available in the house itself. Location is also great...15 mins away from major grocery and other stores at glenwood springs but until then, you are surrounded by mountains and just a few neighbors well-spaced from the house. I hope to visit again! Thanks!
Fly fishermen: You can walk down to the Roaring Fork River from the house. Hunters: We have parking for your ATV/dirt bikes/boat/trailer.
