Intresting places near Hafnarfjordur: Some 25 km from Hafnarfjördur (about 25 minute drive) is the famed Krýsuvík geothermal area with its amazing solfataras, boiling mud springs, blowing steam vent and astonishing palette of colour. Just a few minutes’ drive from there are the stunning Krýsuvíkurberg cliffs, where sea birds by the thousands nest and the rolling waves of the Atlantic crash against the rugged shore. Both are examples of amazing natural beauty.

The landscape at Krýsuvík was formed by volcanic activity and upheaval.

The Grænavatn, Gestsstaðavatn and Augun lakes are explosion craters created by volcanic eruptions at various times. Of those, Grænavatn lake is the largest, some 46 meters deep. Its water is green due to thermal algae and crystals which absorb the sun. Gestsstaðavatn lake draws its name from Gestsstaðir, a farm abandoned during the Middle Ages. On either side of the main road are small crater lakes, called Augun, or Eyes.

Hafnarfjordur: Looking for an enjoyable and unique place to visit? Look no further.

Take a break in Hafnarfjörður, the warm-hearted town in the lava,

just south of Iceland’s capital Reykjavík.

Hafnarfjörður’s name simply means ‘harbour fjord’ and refers to

the excellent natural harbour, which has Iceland’s longest history of

continuous port trade - since the 1300s.

Hafnarfjörður is Iceland’s third-largest town, with just over 26,000

residents. And yet that number is open to debate, since legend has it

that some of Iceland’s elves and hidden people live in Hafnarfjörður’s

lava cliffs and rocks, in peaceful coexistence with the town’s human

residents. In fact, it is possible to tour the elf lands, and those with

second sight may even be lucky enough to spot one or two!

Naturally the town also offers plenty of more conventional outdoor

activities, from golf and swimming to horse riding. Museums and

galleries turn the spotlight on history, music and visual arts.

Wonderful property and location

  • 5 of 5

Great apartment in a terrific location close to Reykjavik. The apartment was extremely clean and had a nice open floor plan that worked wonderfully for our family. Reykjavik was easy to access as were many other key spots on the west side of Iceland. A few nice restaurants and bakeries within walking distance made it simple to walk to breakfast and dinner.

Beautiful place!

  • 5 of 5

We only had a 2 night stay in Iceland (we should have stayed longer), but this condo was gorgeous! Johanna was waiting patiently in the parking lot for us to hand us the keys, and everything was clean and beautiful, exactly as in the pictures. Would definitely recommend this location to friends and would stay again if we travel to Iceland again in the future.

Great location for Reyjavik

Well equipped flat in quiet location. Lovely balcony and rooftop terrace. We caught bus into centre from local stop. Only 30 mins from Airport so very convenient for first or last stop in Iceland. We would stay again.

Perfect Tranquility

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful penthouse with great accessibility to Reykjavik, The Golden Circle, and the Blue Lagoon. We arrived late at night and were so pleased with the easy instructions to get in and the cleanliness of the place. Perfect accommodations to go back to after a long day hiking and seeing the attractions in the area. Stayed three nights and wish we had this place for the remainder of our trip. I highly recommend staying here and enjoying the water view with breathtaking sunsets.

Comfortable and modern home

  • 5 of 5

We were pleasantly surprised to arrive at such a comfortable, sunlit home with fantastic views. Everything was great from the chips for hungry children to the comfortable beds. Perfect base to stay outside of center of Reykjavik with easy access to the attractions.

Golf: In 1993 the Oddur Golf Club (GO) – an open golf club – was established and became forthwith a member of the Golf Association of Iceland (GSÍ). Its foundation was of two reasons, firstly to enable the members of GOF to participate on golf tournaments on national basis, and secondly to give all people interested in playing golf an access to this unique golf course.

Both clubs, GOF and GO, have enjoyed a gradual increase in membership in the past and currently the combined memberships of both clubs rank among the highest in the country.

The attendance at the Odd Fellow Golf Course (Urriðavöllur) is by good weather, particularly on week-ends, often quite brisk. Therefore, it is advisable for players to book their round of golf in the early morning hours or the day before.

Ski: The ski areas of Bláfjöll and Skálafell are both only 25 minutes away from the city. Bláfjöll is south west of the city and Skálafell east of the city. Both areas have great ski slopes for downhill skiing and snowboarding as well as tracks for cross-country skiing. Bláfjöll has 15 lifts. Skálafell has 4 lifts.
